  • It opens citrusy and spicy; you can definitely detect rosemary and tarragon, making it fairly original compared to what I’ve smelled before. Once it settles, there’s a faint hint of incense, which is a shame since it’s so subtle. It’s a cologne (not a perfume) that I quite like, even though for brief moments it has sour tones that remind me vaguely of gastric reflux rather than citrus. The longevity is very weak.

  • Alberto Morillas is a master at creating clean, energetic aromatic colognes—nothing overwhelming and always easy to wear. This collaboration with Zara brings three fragrances evoking three corners of Spain: a morning in Seville, a sunset in Barcelona, and a night in Madrid. I snagged all three at an absurdly low price when they were on sale. Reading the notes for ‘Morning Sunray in Seville’ and the bottle description, you might expect something more surprising, though the result is equally satisfying. It’s important to clarify this is NOT a perfume, but a very enjoyable cologne. At first, you get the bitterness of lemon and orange blossom, then rosemary and tarragon take over with a strange, invigorating darkness. Later, subtle touches of cypress and geranium keep that somber air alive. As it dries down, it becomes more luminous, settling into a pleasant musky scent with a barely perceptible hint of incense. This fragrance feels somewhat formal, leaving behind the carefree, sparkling vibe typical of summer scents. In my imagination, it evokes what lucky folks might have smelled on a leisure day back in the early 20th century, grooming themselves with these primitive colognes to enjoy their downtime. One of them could be Federico García Lorca spending a summer afternoon in the garden of his retreat, La Huerta de San Vicente, writing in the shade of a lush jasmine bush.

To me, it smells like a classic barbershop; it has that powerhouse vibe and lasts quite a bit once it settles.
