Luna Rossa Ocean by Prada

Got this for about €50 a year ago. This Prada EDT is one of my signature scents. It has that L’Homme base, but then it seems like a ‘frizzy’ sea emerges. I love how it evolves from soapy to clean with that aquatic touch, thanks to the lavender + ambroxan combo. On my dry skin, it lasts 6 hours, not bad. Elegant trail, and I prefer it to be more masculine, though women like it too. Works all year round, just a bit more spritz at night in winter. Definitely recommend and will buy again.

Beautiful fragrance, slightly sweet and refined. It has that particular ‘something blue’, but to me it smells mostly like soap. The first thing that comes to mind is Skip powder soap, haha. Moderate longevity and low trail. Definitely for personal enjoyment. I liked it, but within the line, my favorite is still the Black…

One of my favorite perfumes!! Youthful aroma, very fresh but powdery, perfect for spring, summer, and even autumn. It’s not tropical or beachy; rather, it’s like having a romantic dinner by the sea. It doesn’t smell like the ocean, but like the romance of waves gently hitting the coast on a rainy summer day. On my skin, it lasts between 6 and 8 hours, though on clothes it extends to over 15 hours without issues (the sheets were soaked the next morning, just from rubbing against them). Very versatile: everyday wear, dates, or family gatherings. Projects quite a bit but doesn’t overwhelm or cause olfactory fatigue. I confirm that after a few hours the trail isn’t as strong, but it remains delicious. A 10/10 in my collection.

It’s true that its pathetic projection doesn’t make it an attractive option. It projects only for the first 3 minutes (I’m not exaggerating). There’s something about this perfume that turns me off. I’m not sure if it’s the iris being too creamy/earthy. Fortunately, I’ve only bought a decant. Usually, I write more extensive reviews, but with this perfume, I just can’t. It doesn’t inspire me, it doesn’t stand out, I’m skipping this LUNA ROSSA line and going straight for any of the 3 PRADA L’HOMME.

Smells like Dylan Blue.

The word Ocean is just decoration; it’s not fresh or aquatic, it smells like soap. It has sweet lavender with caramel notes, not intrusive or cloying, with a clean, addictive musk base. It lasts barely 6 hours on clothes and 4 on skin. It doesn’t resemble Myself at all.

Absolutely spectacular, it has ruined Blue de Chanel. Best summer fragrance, unfortunately it lasts 1 hour on skin and 2 on clothes.

It’s not a challenging scent or a rule-breaker, but it’s good. I find it very in the style of Sauvage, Dylan Blue, even a bit of Y, with that characteristic, slightly muted iris. Longevity and projection are normal; I disagree with those who say it lasts 2 hours, I use it for work and it lasts almost all day.

Updating my review: I received a batch from a year ago and I think it’s been reformulated, but for the better. It lasts over 8 hours and in the final phase I notice they’ve stretched it out; I sense a clean, salty ambroxan with a characteristically oceanic vibe that lasts much longer than the first version. Also in the heart phase, I notice more wood, cedar, very neat and airy, blending into clean, soapy, aromatic tones. The spectacular part is the opening: in addition to what’s declared, I notice a slight marzipan character (Spanish sweet with almond), which for me is one of the best opening notes in a blue fragrance. Airy style and trail, not heavy, projects a lot in the first hours and then becomes discreet and versatile. I really like this EDT, more than the later versions. It gains points every day I get to know it more.

Got a small sample of this Luna Rosa Ocean EDT and my first impression was negative. The dihydro-mycenol, at those concentrations, is overwhelming and prevents me from perceiving the rest of the notes. It takes about 30-40 minutes for it to settle enough for the lavender, a very soft suede, and some iris in the background to emerge. The problem is that by the time it settles, it’s extremely skin-scented and the aroma is frankly faint. In this case, for me, the solution wouldn’t be to replicate it, because that would mean going back to the torture of that overcooked dihydro-mycenol.

Decent fragrance all around. From the first spray, I understood two things: it’s a blue fragrance through and through and it doesn’t reinvent the wheel… but I must make several points. One is that I don’t perceive the worn-out ambroxan that persists in its competitors in this Luna Rossa Ocean, and that distinguishes it, at least for those users who like to test perfumes. The second is that it takes a slight risk with a clearly musky and sweet base that is not derived from coumarin, as in other proposals, and although that doesn’t result in a big change by the end of the day, it does give it a slight unique character. It’s a pleasant fragrance that won’t clash in daily life or more intimate gatherings, although it won’t trigger romantic fervors either. True that ladies like it, but in my experience, almost all blues do. Among blue fragrances, it’s not one of the ones with the least projection and longevity, but it’s not a rocket ship either. Both characteristics are good and improve with temperate or slightly warm temperatures. As for the price, I have my doubts; if it’s about looking for blue fragrances with good performance, it’s not clear to me that it’s a winner, but it remains an option to consider. Having said that, I join the opinion of those who think that squeezing the cow until the bones is already tiring. Making the nth version is certainly annoying, and while it’s not surprising that Prada does it, it saddens those who knew the fame and elegance of that house. The standards are getting lower in this era, perhaps not in the product itself but in the concepts of what they sell and in treating the user as a mere idiot. Sad.

I bought it a year ago and I’m coming to review it. Usage and compliments: After so much time, I used it to go to English classes in a closed place, and because of that, people asked me what perfume I was using and that it smelled good. Another occasion was at a supermarket cashier; she liked it and asked me what perfume I was using. If you’re looking for compliments, it’s not the best, but it will give them to you, don’t worry about that. Aroma: One thing that goes with compliments is the aroma, and the truth is, I personally like this fragrance; I’m fascinated to use it. It’s the typical blue perfume but feeling a bit sweet in the background; it’s very masculine, nothing unisex. As for the sweetness, it’s just a little; don’t alarm yourselves for those of us who hate those syrupy perfumes. You won’t find a One Million or an Ultra Male here either, nothing like that; a bearable sweetness that won’t give you a headache on hot days when you use this perfume. Projection and longevity: this is my disappointment; the projection is very poor and the longevity too, maybe reaching about 4 hours at most, and in projection, only the first hour and a half. The truth is, in this aspect, it’s a disaster, but if you don’t have problems like me with reapplying, go ahead. Conclusion: Would I buy it again? Of course, since it’s an aroma that not everyone has/knows and I like using it a lot. It’s the truth; if the projection and longevity are horrendous, reapplying solves it.

It’s not a perfume for a blind buy or for novice noses; the opening can scare someone new to complex scents. It was a fragrance that I didn’t know how to appreciate at first, and today it seems like a gem in originality to me. I recommend it.

Having Kenzo Homme EDT Intense, this one went to the background; luckily, there isn’t much left in the bottle. It’s not a bad aroma, but nothing like it’s worth having as a backup… something I do have with Kenzo… but Kenzo plays in another league, in terms of projection, sillage, longevity, and aroma (although this is subjective because every nose is a world). Kenzo Homme EDT Intense covers me hands down among marine/fruit/blue fragrances, one of the best in designer… Prada Luna Rossa Ocean won’t return to my collection when it runs out; I’ll keep the bottle… nothing more to add, Your Lordship.
