I tried it and it’s not for me. After 3-4 hours, I might like it, but the opening and heart notes aren’t for me. It’s curious, it’s very similar to Givenchy Gentlemen Only Absolute in the heart phase, though less spicy (maybe it was the tester or my skin). I love Luna Rossa EDT, but this one isn’t for me.
Honestly, a very elegant and rich scent, plus the fragrance with the best projection and longevity in my collection.
Let’s see when L’Oréal makes this masterpiece disappear; I see it in fewer stores and at higher prices. It’s elegant and refined. The opening didn’t convince me, but its dry-down is the best I’ve ever smelled, with great projection and longevity; I can still smell it the next day.
One of the most overlooked scents: ambered, powdery, and clean, perfect for any time without the sun. It’s like Armani Code or Bvlgari Black, but with a soapy, bright touch; sweet without being cloying, clean without smelling like fabric softener. For me, it’s the best Prada and it deserves more fame.
Edit: After wearing it for a few days, I’m now sure it’s a unique scent in my collection. It’s a formal fragrance, plain and simple, but it has something that sets it apart. To some extent, it can feel a bit flat with little evolution, but that’s just how Prada works. It blends a clean aura with a slight sweetness that my wife absolutely loves more than any other perfume I own (and they’re not bad ones, either). I find it quite balanced, with no single note overpowering the others. Even though I know I might sound sacrilegious, it feels like it’s on the same track as what Armani Code Parfum tries to convey. I’m not saying they’re identical, but they give me the same ‘usage vibe,’ with the caveat that this one absolutely crushes Armani thanks to its note balance (Armani feels too heavy and overwhelming to me). That said, I still perceive the scent as less natural, though not as synthetic as Armani Code Parfum is for me. It does cause some olfactory fatigue; in fact, the less I apply, the more I notice it. Yesterday, I sprayed it 7 times at 6:30 AM and stopped smelling it shortly after, but by the afternoon my wife told me I smelled amazing. I’m not saying it lasts forever, but on my skin, it should perform very well (even if I don’t perceive it as much myself). Other days when I apply less, I sometimes lose it and then suddenly it reappears, giving me a smile. Versatility: I wouldn’t categorize it as an exclusive date perfume; I’m not saying it can’t work, but it also shines in other settings like the workplace or a relaxed hangout with friends, not a party. I’m using it for the office and feel comfortable wearing it (on days I can actually smell it), which is ultimately what matters most. That sublime clean base Prada brings to its perfumes is absolutely divine. Outfit: It works well with appropriate attire. It’s not for sweatpants, but you don’t need a suit. Since my style is almost always casual (chinos, shirts, sweaters…), the fragrance fits perfectly. A bit more sporty, like jeans, a tee, and a hoodie, could work, but I see other slightly less formal options fitting better. Weather: Fresh (autumn, early spring, and certain winter days). I don’t see it for extreme cold since it’s not a super dense scent that would cut through the chill when you’re outside at 5°C. It’s not a warm scent either, although the tonka bean plays its part. Nevertheless, since we don’t spend much time outside in winter and indoor temperatures are usually pleasant, it works correctly. Similarly, I don’t see it as a mid-to-late spring fragrance; a clean and sweet scent above 15°C doesn’t seem appropriate to me (though this is personal opinion and tastes vary) because it can feel a bit heavy. In summer, I’d rule it out completely. __________________ After a long time trying to find it, I finally had the “luck” of spotting it on the shelf at Geneva Airport. I say “luck” because the price I paid is completely illogical, especially since there wasn’t a tester to try it, at least for the 100ml bottle. Still, I took the risk, and now that I’m home, I feel I made the right choice. I’ll be testing it for a few days to write a full review, but I had to post this because I’m 100% emotional. PS: They also had Versace Oud Noir (very interesting, but that one was ridiculously expensive) and the Bvulgari Gem collection, which I found sublime (except for, once again, the price).
I’m sticking with Le Male, very similar to 212 Sexy Men, the new Le Male, and also Armani Code EDP.
Powdery scent with a sweetness that’s not overwhelming but has real presence. The first time it didn’t last long, but after a few weeks of letting it rest, wow! What a difference. Now I can smell it even after 10 hours, and people keep complimenting me. Best for cool nights. Women love it, calling it sexy and perfect for dates. I’ve gotten so many compliments. It’s a truly delightful fragrance. Totally happy with this purchase because it puts me in a great mood and others enjoy it too. Highly recommended.
Totally awesome, smells sexy and is perfect for dates or cool days. One of my absolute favorites—the performance is on another level.
Brutal fragrance; on my nose, it’s almost identical to Xerjoff Alexandria 2, so much so that I’d dare say one inspired the other. Simply spectacular.
The scent is incredible, but the new batches don’t last at all; if you want people to notice it, spray it cold or no one will smell it.
Smells nice, but over time it reminds me of Le Mâle, just sweeter. It’s okay, but it’s not worth the price it costs.
Smells very similar to The Body Shop’s White Musk For Men. I have both. I bought the White Musk first, and when I smelled this Prada, it was a direct reference. Now I compare them side by side; they have differences, but small ones. The Prada has more quality and ‘refinement,’ is a bit sweeter, and has that impeccable cleanliness aura. The White Musk leans more toward laundry-fresh, less sweet, thanks to the musk. It’s balanced, versatile for everything except heat or sun. It’s not explosive, maintaining a half-meter aura. The bottle color doesn’t match the scent: the blacks usually indicate imposing or ‘bad boy’ fragrances, but this one brings peace, generates confidence, and invites people to get closer.
I tried it in a 10ml decant from Decanty and must say it surprised me. Prada Luna Rossa Black is captivating and mysterious, embodying passion and elegance in a bottle. The fresh and enigmatic opening of bergamot and black angelica is incredible. As it develops, the patchouli and leather reveal intense, seductive depth. It’s the perfect choice for those seeking a masculine and sophisticated fragrance that stands out in any occasion.
For now, the best from Prada. What an elegant scent, very similar to the coveted Van Cleef. Great aroma and performance, but the price left me speechless.
Wow, what a sexy scent. I remember moving to the US in 2021 and spending time in Mexico. In the fields of a house we lived in, there were herbs everywhere; I’d go smell them and meet that little plant, angelica, also small. I met patchouli and mint. Every time I smell this fragrance, I relive those memories. It’s a bit similar to Marc Jacobs Bang Bang, but this one is less heavy, sexier, and more balanced. At first, it smells of guava, but the dry-down is masterful. I love it, I like it more than its mother, the traditional one.
In my opinion, the most mature and ‘nocturnal’ in the Prada Luna Rossa saga (made by L’Oreal). The scent isn’t original or potent; there are many similar ones, especially in cheap Arab perfumes. It has echoes of classic 90s men’s fragrances, but light-years less powerful. On my skin (February 2023 batch), it lasts a short time, 3-4 hours, and the last 2 hours are just skin scent. It has that clean, refined soap DNA typical of Prada, but without ambroxan, more herbal with angelica, soft patchouli, and an ambered coumarin base. Ideal for men over 30 for intimate gatherings. Unfortunately, it seems discontinued since mid-2023 and is hard to find in Spain. On the gray market or second-hand, it goes for 70-80 euros. I wouldn’t pay for it even if I had to, unless you have extra cash, are a Prada fan, an obsessed collector, or just a bargain hunter.
Luckily, I only managed to get a decant. I’ll leave it; I can’t even think of gifting it. It reminds me of the St. Martin’s bingo at late hours, that ‘elegant’ lady with bad taste, excessive makeup, and cheap velvet. I fell for the trap trying to upgrade Man in Black by Bvlgari, but I hit a dead end. This, Ferragamo Uomo Signature, and Versace Oud Noir… all destined for oblivion.
When they say ‘reformulated,’ I imagine a wizard in a kitchen stirring potions with curses and adding random ingredients. But here, the spokesperson screams to warn us of the trap. They sacrificed themselves for us. If we went by the reviews, we wouldn’t know where to put our feet.
Even though it was discontinued, I grabbed a tester near my house and wore it for several days. Sweet and powdery opening with tonka bean and amber at full blast. As it dries, it stays sweet and powdery, but the musk rises to balance the sweetness. Initial projection is about 1.5 meters; after 3 hours it smells good, but by 6-7 hours it’s skin scent only. Ideal for cold weather, day or night, work or going out. If you find it and love sweet, powdery scents, give it a try, even though the performance is just okay.
It’s always a relief when good perfumes don’t disappear. Even though this Luna Rossa Black could still be found drop by drop, it’s great news that distribution issues are resolved and it’s now accessible like any other fragrance. I won’t review it since others have explained it well below, but I wanted to highlight that its scent has changed substantially: the powdery, soapy notes are now much toned down, and the coumarin is more ‘toasted’ at first, turning creamy in the late dry-down, whereas before it was creamy almost from the start of the mid-stage. I suppose some component changes caused this variation compared to older batches near the relaunch, if that can even be called that. Still, it remains a different fragrance that won’t suit everyone, but undoubtedly it’s a good creation. It suffers quite a bit in performance despite already being somewhat restrained originally, but I recommend giving it a try and more than one opportunity.
Reminds me of Armani Code Profumo. I tried it yesterday at Druni. It’s a very recent relaunch; until recently, everyone said it was discontinued.
Sisucoro, you’re not anosmic; I’ve been through the exact same thing. I’ve had Prada Black for about a year and a half. I managed to get it back when it was discontinued. A few days ago, I saw it on a shelf in a store and thought, ‘No way, it’s back,’ but what a letdown… The new version seems about the same as the old one, yet it’s incredibly flat and linear, just as you said—only ambroxan, and it’s nose-tying boring. Compared to the gem that Prada Black used to be…
Since they relaunched it, I’ve tried it three times, and all three times it smelled only of ambroxan. I remember the old version as heavy too, but with vanilla and other nuances; this new version smells purely of ambroxan. Am I going crazy, or did I become anosmic? I know ambroxan well because I once bought famous molecules just to get to know them; Luna Rossa Black doesn’t even come close to those raw molecules. I have ambroxan diluted in pharmacy alcohol, and they smell identical. Well, mine is more potent because I went overboard with the spray, haha.
It’s back on the shelves. I don’t know how the old formulation was, but this one feels very tired and understated. The scent is pleasant, clean, and elegant (very Prada), but the performance is a letdown. Sometimes people just don’t learn, and the Arab perfumers are stepping on their heels. It makes me furious that they treat such a well-crafted fragrance this way.
What an impactful fragrance, highly recommended. A unique scent with a subtle vanilla note, impressive!!!
If a man wears this perfume, I’m marrying him. Absolutely spectacular on a female nose.
I believe they reformulated it because I own all three versions. In the latest one, the opening is more intense, almost different, but after 5 minutes it smells similar since they swapped the cloying aspect for something creamy. As a review below mentions, it’s become creamier, whereas the previous ones were more powdery and clean. The current version lacks the evolution of the first version or the one before it was discontinued; it’s more linear. Fortunately, it still retains quality and longevity. Scent: 8, Quality: 8, Projection: 7, Longevity: 7
I’m not much of an amber lover… I usually don’t like how it’s presented. But in this Prada, it smells delicate, warm, and sweet, like a pleasant sweet treat. Maybe it’s the mix with coumarin and musk… Anyway, I absolutely love it. It feels rich. I wear it to the office and have gotten great feedback from colleagues. Although it doesn’t have a huge sillage, those who catch it have liked it. I see it as ideal for fall, though it’s versatile enough for spring and winter… why not even summer nights?
Top-tier perfume, no need to say more, it attracts compliments
Prada Luna Rossa Black: I get that it’s a hit—it has a distinct, striking scent. But it just doesn’t work for me. I bought it blind based on the good reviews; at first, I liked that amber with angelica, but then it gets stuck (I don’t like powdery fragrances) and adds a burnt note. As it dries down, all the nice stuff disappears, and in my opinion, it smells like burnt rubber with a cloying finish. I don’t detect the vanilla people mention; instead, I notice an undeclared leather nuance. I gave it several tries, but it just doesn’t work on my skin. Performance is average (6-8 hours). I’m not trying to trash it, just so others know what to expect before buying blind—of course, it could be a whole different story on another skin. Rating: 5/10
Prada Luna Rossa Black: Precious and dark, with a gloomy, nostalgic, rebellious, and mysterious style that has charm. It has the look of someone who needs a defined style, for the quiet, solitary, and silent type who, without saying a word, attracts those who seek them. It’s seductive, neat but not luminous, unusual yet kind. The amber and vanilla awaken a crazy calm; the musk adds sophistication and the woods give it body. It’s like a star shining in the darkness. Its opening is poetry in motion; in its development, it shows its beauty and cunning, a scent that influences female behavior because it doesn’t offer everything at once, always keeping something that makes it irresistible and sexy. It signifies qualities like being authentic, charming, friendly, and different to satisfy the ego. It’s more complex than it appears, perhaps that’s why women like it in a man who reflects that just by looking at him. It’s neat, balanced, refined, interesting, sexy, and mysteriously masculine. In introspection, it makes you feel like you recognize yourself as an eccentric and attractive man. Totally for nighttime use. Requires style and good dressing. Normal performance in my case. Scent: 10, Projection: 2 hours, Longevity: 6 hours. Recommended.
Prada plays in a different league in designer fragrances, few know this, but that handling of the iris… Dior can’t even do it. I love the Luna Rossa line; all its flankers hold elegance and class. This is the most evocative, mysterious, and deep. It’s a shame its performance dropped since it came under L’Oréal’s ownership. Wear it in fresh seasons, at night, to seduce. A 10.
Divine. A very fine powdery amber. Excellent for autumn and with a black suit. It’s one of those addictive DNA scents that never bore or tire me, and I’m amazed by how unobtrusive it is. Perhaps quite unisex. With this and the irises from Dior, these are my staples that make me smell like a woman. Despite that, it’s a scent I love unconditionally.
I love it, but it’s the first Prada fragrance in a while where I can complain about the longevity. Let’s hope it improves with maceration.
I love you, Prada Luna Rossa Black, you were born for me and I was born for you. They’ve ruined you with reformulations, but that doesn’t diminish our love. You are beautiful, elegant, timeless, amber-rich, and complex. Everything I dreamed of in a perfume: that semi-powdery/creamy touch, bathed in aromatic spices, with a light DNA of Luna Rossa Carbon (like Sauvage) lurking deep in the background. Time has passed, and you remain just as beautiful. No matter what perfume I try, you’ll always be in my mind.
Dark and elegant, PLRB projects class and distinction. Ideal for the man seeking sophistication and mystery on nights or in cool weather. At first, it’s dark; the bergamot is so subtle I barely notice it, going straight to the depths. As it dries, there’s a green and earthy phase (the angelica and patchouli). The soul is the base: a powdery vanilla that, while sounding odd, makes sense. That coumarin with amber and musk creates something enveloping. To summarize: it’s powdery and clean (that Prada DNA), but it adds maturity. It gives the feeling of a “talcum-powdered old man,” very sophisticated and neat. It has a slight, balanced sweetness, never cloying. It’s not youthful and demands cool weather. Although the powdery aspect isn’t my vibe, I recognize it’s rich and well-constructed. For the quality, I give it 7/10, though the powdery touch holds it back.
This is exactly what I’m looking for: a scent experience with its own identity. In an industry full of clones, finding something with a soul is pure joy. It’s great, not perfect, but wonderful. I’ve never heard of an Angelica; I know it’s supposed to be powdery, dark, and mysterious, but those adjectives are usually clichés. Here, surprisingly, they’re real. It doesn’t launch with citrus, but with that powdery, medicinal amber body that lingers. At first, there’s a slight acidic touch, like the lemon residue left when making liquid caramel with citric acid, which fades in 15 minutes. Then comes the heart: mysterious, like hospital cotton dipped in makeup powder, bringing you close to a haberdasher with nardos. It vaguely reminds me of Carolina Herrera’s Good Girl and Natura’s Humor Estelar (the latter is cheaper and resinous), but they share that vibe. That caramel note, the nardos, and the rose base create a deep, subtly charming aroma. It’s too feminine for me, but it’s the perfume of a Femme Fatale, not a “dark man.” I associate the sweet patchouli with feminine fruitchouli. I’d recommend it to women; I’d love to wear it on fresh days. It lasts 5 hours before flattening out to skin scent with that coumarin trail that I’m not entirely fond of. The best part is the dry down: wearable, with the right weight and a pronounced sweetness. At first, it’s hard to separate the notes between musk and amber, but then you get hooked and won’t let go. 8/10.
Very elegant, clean, and powdery. A fragrance for a mature man, not a party-goer or a conqueror, but rather serious and business-like. I really liked it; it follows the path of Armani Code but with less sweetness.
I’m 27. I like it, even if it’s not quite as amazing as I expected. At first glance, it looks serious, perfect for events or dates. It reminds me of His Confession, minus the iris, but with that powdery makeup vibe. As it dries down, it becomes more mysterious and earthy, yet soft. Ideal for formal nighttime events; I wouldn’t wear it daily because it loses its magic. They say to wear it black. It seems pricey here, but it’s an excellent option if you’re looking for something subtle that invites people to get closer. Sparkling at the start, it gains more body and personality as it settles. If Batman had a signature scent, it would be this one.
I had high hopes, but in the end, I had to switch. They say it’s mysterious and dark, but I don’t see it that way. It’s so loaded with musk and dusty that it smells like baby powder; I can’t stop associating it with that and it doesn’t feel serious or formal at all. I can’t find a reason to wear it. Even though I love dusty scents, this one doesn’t work for me. It has that sweet touch reminiscent of JPG’s Le Male Le Parfum, and I would buy that one; as for this Prada, never again.
