Descripción
Dark Temptation by AXE is an oriental fougère fragrance for men. Launched in 2013, the nose behind this composition is Ann Gottlieb. The top notes reveal cherry, pear, ginger, and cilantro; the heart unfolds red chili, sage, and basil; while the base notes close the olfactory pyramid with dark chocolate, vanilla, whipped cream, amber, and patchouli.

Along with Axe Chocolate, this is the worst thing I’ve ever smelled. It resembles Adrenaline by Henrique Iglesias a little, just a little, but that one is acceptable.
Very good. It combines ideally with Animal Animal and the entire A*Men range.
There is an EDT available at a very reasonable price; the photo here is of the Body Deodorant. A clarification: this is the one with cocoa (which they mention as AXE Chocolate).
I’m not sure if I tried the Body Spray or the deodorant, but on paper it lasted very little, about 2 hours. I’ll have to keep testing it. The scent wasn’t unpleasant but very generic and gourmand; I mostly noticed a sweetness mixing vanilla-amber-cocoa with milky notes, leaving the impression of something sweet but without recreating a concrete idea. This makes me reject it. Trying to achieve a cocoa, vanilla, or any specific element scent requires several chemicals to enrich the note and make it authentic. There are always “crucial” molecules, but trying to create a correct floral burst with few elements produces a vague, insubstantial, and somewhat synthetic air (even though everything is synthetic in modern perfumery). On this point, it’s curious: whether synthetic or not, it’s easy to confuse and hard to explain. The synthetic vanillas from Yves Rocher, for example, feel synthetic to me just like the pepper from any mid-range brand. I think it’s a characteristic not only of the formula but of the olfactory family, and it gets confused with being incisive, penetrating, and pungent…
The reviled Axe brand actually seems like the best deodorants to me. This one smells terrible and great at the same time xD. The 2012 limited edition was the best. They pulled it last year 🙁
Axe Dark Temptation, my boss used to wear it and surprised me. I asked him what he was eating that smelled so good; he told me it was his deodorant, which caught me off guard because my boss always smelled bad… anyway… I’m a woman and bought it to feel the little chocolate aroma… although it smells a bit generic, it doesn’t bother me, I like it…
A scent that brings back bad memories. Years ago, in high school. It was what all my classmates wore after sports; my nausea came from the mix of sweat and Axe Chocolate; it was the most horrific thing. In my opinion, you have to have terrible taste to use something like that; there are even better deodorants for the same price. It doesn’t smell like chocolate; it’s something I can’t describe.
Just bought it. It’s a very, very bitter chocolate, smells delicious, fulfills its purpose, but then it becomes boring and bland. I even sense a coffee note (probably because of the bitterness). I would have preferred it to be a sweeter chocolate.
Axe Dark Temptation EDT, 100 ml. Bitter chocolate with a vanilla touch… fruity notes, pear, maybe cherry? A hint of pepper. Smells a bit artificial; on my skin, it lasts about 4 hours with a moderate trail. Works great in any season, day or night… it’s neutral and goes unnoticed. Great value for the price. I picked it up in a pack with the deodorant (which is what I wanted) and shower gel, all in a useful backpack I use daily… all for about 10 euros… what more could you ask for?
A beast of a low-cost fragrance that has me hooked. A forum colleague recommended it for women’s scents, and… what a discovery! Dark Temptation smells like almost edible dark chocolate with a fruity twist. Irresistible. Perfect for wearing alone or mixing with chocolate perfumes (look at me, Boss Scent Private Accord for Her). Over time, though it’s linear, it gets a bit masculine as the fruitiness fades, and I love that shift. The trail is moderate and lasts about 3 hours, but what does it matter at this price? I use it at night after a shower without needing more longevity. Thanks to this, I discovered Axe body sprays; I grabbed three for a steal (Oud Wood & Dark Vanilla, Tobacco & Amber, and Iced Musk & Ginger). They fit women perfectly, come with double the volume, and last longer than the EDT. Of the three, Tobacco & Amber is my favorite, even though it’s not on Fragrantica. Only for lovers of very sweet scents. The other one missing from Fragrantica is Iced Musk & Ginger; despite the name, it smells strongly of fig. Scent 8/10 Longevity 4/10 Sillage 7/10 Value 7/10 Versatility 7/10 Packaging 5/10 Would I buy again? Yes.
Flawless! I love it. I bought two 150ml bottles for $3 and it smells exquisite. Just cherry and dark chocolate, and it tastes delicious. It easily lasts me 4 hours; I loved it.
Equally, excellent scent. A gourmand bomb of chocolate with pink pepper (the deodorant and EDT have different notes) and a creamy amber base. It goes without saying that the deodorant’s longevity on skin is poor, only a couple of hours, though it lasts longer on clothes and projects well. If you can get the EDT, buy it. If you use the deodorant just to freshen up after a shower, go ahead. It’s among the best from Axe, along with Apollo and Leather & Cookies (buy the latter as a deodorant bar, not an antiperspirant; that’s the one that holds the scent best).
The only one it resembles is 90% similar to Carolina Herrera’s Bad Boy. This Axe Dark Temptation lasts at most 3 or 4 hours; it’s not for use in the heat. The trail is moderate, but when applied in a closed room or house, it’s noticeable quite a bit. It serves to give you an idea of how Bad Boy smells, but this is of much lower quality.
The best cheap fragrance that exists.
I find it hard to rate because I use it so much that I don’t have a first impression anymore, nor do I know if it performs better in cold or heat, since I’ve used it for everything. I’ll talk about the aftershave, which smells the same as the EDT and is cheaper, though it comes without a sprayer. It’s a warm, pleasant, chocolatey, and sweet scent without being heavy, soft, masculine, and with personality. I love it, but it has its flaws. The longevity is good, up to 6 hours, but the trail isn’t very strong, which is why I give it a ‘like’ and not a ‘love’, although it does the job. As an anecdote, my G-Shock watch always gets a bit soaked and still smells days later. In summary, it’s a ten for the price; I’ve worn it for years and never get tired of it, and my partner loves it too. But if you want to flood the room, this isn’t it.
Smells very sweet of chocolate with a light vanilla touch, ideal for pairing with tobacco or vanilla perfumes. Unlike others in the line, it doesn’t degrade much in the heat. Due to its strength, it could overpower the perfume you’re wearing if it’s not potent. It’s designed for cold seasons.
Simply unpleasant, generic, and lasts less than 3 hours on the skin, which is what you’d expect from a deodorant.
A very potent, sweet chocolate fragrance… cloying from the very first moment, with no balance or performance. In my opinion, one of the worst from Axe.
Pure chocolate. Let me tell you about the Eau de Toilette (which smells different from the deodorant). The opening is fruity, with cherry and pear mixed with a spicy hint of ginger. I don’t detect chili, basil, or sage, just that spicy ginger kick at the start that later turns sweeter. The base is gourmand with whipped cream, cocoa, and vanilla. The sweetness is balanced; it’s not a heavy candy bomb, works all year round and even after a workout. On my skin, the milk chocolate, whipped cream, and vanilla stand out, making it creamy. The patchouli is soft and fruity, while the cherry and pear persist throughout. It’s unisex, youthful, and carefree. The trail is moderate and the longevity holds up well for an EDT, around 7 hours on my skin, with the last hour staying closer to the skin. For the price, it’s a great option made to please everyone.
In the EDT I know, it’s a cherry bathed in chocolate with a fresh, spicy opening, drying down to a warm and sweet finish. It’s not identical to the deodorant in the line, but it fits perfectly. It smells sweet yet remains masculine. It’s not a masterpiece, but there are commercial perfumes costing ten times more that smell the same. Lasts about 4 hours on the skin. Judging it by what it is, it’s not bad.
I’ve only used and known the deodorant for years; in fact, during school days, it was what I used most, coincidentally it was in fashion back then. It smells mostly of chocolate, accompanied by some vanilla touches; it’s sweet. It smells very good. Both the deodorant and antiperspirant versions work well for what they cost.
The deodorant is a classic, a known and much-liked scent by teenagers alike. It has been judged heavily, yet it’s a very well-constructed and pleasant perfumery creation. The deodorant mentions notes of pink pepper, amber, and chocolate. Hence, this explains any spicy, sweet, amber, chocolate, and vanilla nuances it might have. Final verdict: The EDT is richer, has better longevity, and is better constructed than the deodorant while maintaining a low price. If you can only get the deodorant, that’s better than nothing; it works naturally well when washed up and in autumn or winter, preferably at night. It wears well on heavy fabrics and if you need to use it as a perfume substitute in a pinch, it can save you. On skin, it can last a considerable time, speaking of 6 to 8 hours, but on clothes it’s better and very rich to wear. Same goes for the leather and cookie recommendation.
There’s an error in the product sheet; Dark Temptation launched in 2008. The bottle has mutated many times since, but in my opinion, the fragrance remains the same. It’s a potent opening of bitter chocolate with sweet fruity nuances, but I don’t feel the touted cherry… it’s just sweet. It’s very linear; the chocolate lasts throughout the life of the perfume. After the initial bitter chocolate bomb, Praliné appears with traces of a gourmet aroma that must be vanilla, but very subtle, finishing with a dry down of patchouli. This scent is the great-grandfather of all modern gourmet fragrances: 1 Million, XS Pure, Bad Boy, Versace Eros, etc., etc. It was very bold at launch, and the commercial would likely be censored today by the cannibal girls who ate the protagonist. I still use it because it has good longevity on skin and sillage for a deodorant; it’s more than worthy.
I can’t take this fragrance seriously; back in my teenage years, at least here in Chile, all my friends used it after working out to cover up the sweat smell, haha.
I used this in my adolescence, stealing it from my brother and sometimes friends. Then I bought it myself 😂. I was young and broke… and well! I used this perfume where the chocolate scent wasn’t intense chocolate, but rather something sweet and spiced. The fruity notes and whipped cream definitely don’t exist! But, what can you expect from a deodorant used by teenagers… and some adults? (Adults: there are nicer low-cost options, seriously).
It’s good, nothing extraordinary, sweet, and if it’s on promo, it’s worth it.
@sisucoro Let me share that I’ve been using Pravia Hay soap bars for a long time. I can guarantee that once you open the package and place the bar in your bathroom soap dish, the scent fills the entire room intensely for several days. I’ve tried placing a fresh piece in the middle of clean clothes in drawers, and the aroma soaks in, which is a treat for the garments. I suppose the issue is complex, but a convincing explanation (or accessory) regarding the infamous olfactory fatigue would be great. Regarding the AXE Dark Temptation scent, setting aside comparisons, it also reminds me of Carolina Herrera’s Bad Boy.
Just a thought: Today I was out running errands in the heat and noticed my deodorant needed a boost. In a rush, I grabbed this classic to trigger some teenage memories; I don’t know if it was on sale or expensive, but it cost me about 3 euros. I washed up at a bar’s sink and sprayed a couple of times under each arm. Well, the scent of this deodorant, regardless of quality (it has that typical Invictus/Born in Roma vibe), lasts and projects so strongly that I can’t stop smelling it. I have few perfumes that project this hard. I’m not saying it’s a virtue, but it reflects how perfume houses laugh in our faces by selling those ‘eaux’ at Kobe steak prices that last and project nothing but dirty pharmacy alcohol. Considering it cost 3 euros and smells similar to many designer perfumes, the ‘ingredients’ argument doesn’t hold; the scam is abysmal. Buy one and compare it with your perfumes to see what conclusions you draw.
@mr baskerville I agree with you on olfactory fatigue; it’s a crucial point to consider. What I usually do is grab a clean t-shirt, spray my normal perfume on it, and leave it in a room. Then, I walk in and out throughout the day, even switching rooms, to truly gauge the perfume’s performance. I do this because my pH isn’t very friendly to perfumes, but it seems to work well with Axe; what luck I have.
AXE fragrances bring back my teenage memories; it’s like a time travel experience.
I have it and use it as it is, a body spray deodorant xD. I like the smell, it’s awesome haha 10/10.
This smells like high school and adolescence, haha. It must have something going on when its base is partially emulated in other famous perfumes like Carolina Herrera’s Bad Boy.
Back in my high school days, this was mandatory, how rich it smelled…
This perfume smells like adolescence, a time when everything was simpler and we only cared about looking good for the girls. While it wasn’t the best scent you could find for a teen, it was what was available and definitely the MAN deodorant. Although for me, Axe’s best deodorant was ‘Instinct’, I keep this one in my heart.
What is this doing here? Please, a little shame and respect. There isn’t much more to say: it smells cheap and tacky. But it wasn’t just the scent; that cheap stench was accompanied by a slap of sweat and grime. Everyone wore it after workouts and showers, turning the gym into a sewer with the mixture. The worst part is that when it finally dissipates after an hour and a half, what’s left is even worse: an amplified rancid sweat. Simply abominable.
I’ll just say it’s worth it if you take a good shower and apply it to watch movies or chill at home with friends…
This Axe is one of the best from my childhood. The chocolate with whipped cream smell is amazing; I always had the spray deodorant but also tried the roll-on, antiperspirant spray, and bar, since it’s the best-selling one. Plus, I have an essence and another spray because I love the Axe scent.
It was the top pick in high school and I still love it. It was a modern scent that broke away from traditional men’s perfumes, like tobacco or woody ones.
Once, a university professor said I smelled like a ‘kindergarten egg.’ I was wearing Gentleman Society, so I guess it’s another distant relative of this scent.
Such nostalgia! It was once controversial for how gourmand it was. I remember that iconic commercial… For a deodorant, it has fascinating notes and a great development; you can really tell the quality and the difference Axe makes compared to other brands. This fragrance seems exquisite; while it revolves around chocolate, it has incredible fruity notes. The red chili makes sense; it’s a good combination: that chocolate and vanilla sweetness breaks the spice with an aroma that adds maturity and masculinity. In my teens, this deodorant was girls’ obsession, and everyone smelled like it, haha… Today, I still find its charm, and frankly, when I bought Bad Boy Extreme and Elixir, I did so thinking of this scent, as if it were its spiritual successor.
