I suppose the ‘Oriental Vanilla’ label comes from that chocolate note that emerges later. The gourmand opening lasts an hour or two, then settles into spices (I thought I detected pink pepper or clove), musk, and soft woods like cedar or vetiver. It’s interesting because it breaks RL’s usual mold for men. It’s linear, not a masterpiece, but it delivers: perfect for wooing chocolate lovers. Good longevity, though after 3-4 hours it stays on the skin (you need to reapply if you want that chocolate vibe). Moderate sillage, ideal for winter but handles summer without suffocating. Informal use, more for night.

  • Wow, I agree with Priethcallas. It gives me a chocolatey vibe and I really like it; if not for the weak trail and longevity, it would be my favorite. I only wear it at night, and it makes girls come closer to smell more, haha. A more concentrated version would be perfect. I know Polo Red is similar, but I haven’t tried it. Otherwise, a great scent, very pleasant.

  • Wow, I agree with Priethcallas: it smells like chocolate and I love it, except for its weak sillage and short duration. I wear it at night so women come closer, haha. A concentrated version would be ideal; they say Polo Red is similar but I haven’t tried it. Great scent, very pleasant.

  • My first bargain perfume that convinced me chocolate doesn’t smell like a candy cart. If the longevity were better, I’d buy it again. Cheers.

To me, it wasn’t chocolate but a vanilla sweetness on another level. I regret not checking out this Ralph Lauren collection sooner. The musk is subtle, while the spices dominate. I’d say it’s more of a Spiced Oriental than a Vanilla. PS: Every collector should own this.

It didn’t smell like chocolate to me, but rather a deliciously good sweet vanilla scent. I regret not paying attention to this Ralph Lauren collection before. I don’t detect much musk, but the spicy notes captivate your senses. In fact, I’d say it should be considered more of a Spiced Oriental than a Vanilla Oriental. PS: A collector must have this fragrance.

  • This fragrance was one of those that never caught my attention, until one day I had to test it on skin and I liked it a lot. It brings back memories of many perfumes at once, without being generic. The opening is soft spicy and musky, then it gets a bit sweet, maybe due to the chocolate and vanilla, but always very soft (it’s clear it has more notes than declared). In my case, I note it as summer-perfect; when it gets hot, its longevity extends a bit more (not much more). On my skin, I feel it for an hour and then very skin-close, but from time to time I notice some soft sweet waves reminding me that it’s still present. I think it’s a very versatile fragrance, in no way invasive; one can apply/renew it several times during the day without getting saturated. It’s obvious that it’s not optimal to have to apply perfume all day, but maybe that’s what led me to buy it, wanting to put on more perfume because it seemed very pleasant and gives me a certain energy, or rather, recharges me, it’s a very good feeling. It’s just my point of view, thank you very much.

Hello everyone, so I tested this fragrance at a pharmacy called San Pablo in Mexico. It was funny when I first applied it; I fell in love with the scent right away, something addictive, fresh, and sweet. I loved it. The funny part was that there was a group of ladies at the pharmacy looking at creams for their skin, and the moment I applied it, I realized they were talking to each other about how good I smelled. They were the only ones in the perfume section. They put aside their creams and asked me what perfume I had tested. Hahaha, strange to test a perfume and then get complimented. It was fascinating. The bad part was that it didn’t last more than 3 hours, then skin-close, what a pity because I truly loved it.

  • It’s a very rich perfume for a Sunday with friends, the bad part is that it doesn’t last long on skin!

It’s good for cold days, it has a very good cocoa and warm spices that give it personality… I like applying it more on clothes, it persists better on fabrics than on my skin.

  • It’s one of the few fragrances I’ve been able to wear through all seasons, very good!

  • I agree with shiseido in their review, where they indicate they don’t perceive the chocolate; neither do I. Does it smell good? Yes, very good. For me, it falls in the line of fragrances like Xerius Rouge, although Big Pony 2 feels much weaker to me, both in sillage and longevity. I love this type of aroma, but I don’t understand how they have such poor performance. I usually have a neutral pH, and I know that generally people blame the pH. This isn’t so much the case; pH varies in anyone, going from acidic to alkaline depending on diet and physical activity, but I don’t think it influences performance as much as commented, and if it does, I won’t make my pH more acidic to smell better, the consequences wouldn’t be good. Another issue is skin quality, whether drier or oilier, where it’s harder to influence. Oiler skin is better for performance, which is why it’s said that using a neutral moisturizer before applying the fragrance elevates performance. I went off on a tangent. Hahaha what I wanted to say is that for me, the main culprit for poor performance is the fragrance itself, in most cases, because I have some with beastly performance. Considering the price, I give it a rating of 7.5/10.

  • Agree with Shiseido: I don’t smell chocolate, but it smells great. Reminds me of Xerius Rouge, though Big Pony 2 is weaker in projection and longevity. I love these scents, but I don’t understand the poor performance; my pH is neutral, and while I know diet or exercise can affect it, I don’t think that’s the main cause. Oily skin helps more—in fact, applying neutral cream beforehand improves longevity. Ultimately, the fragrance itself is to blame since I have others that last forever. For the price, I give it 7.5/10.

  • For me, a die-hard Polo Black and Polo Explorer user, the launch of this Big Pony line was disappointing. Fragrances that are practically monochord, linear, and synthetic, with no message other than trying to complement the tacky polo fashion with the loud giant polo player… However, among the four masculine ones, this Big Pony 2 seemed interesting the moment I tried it. At first, very fresh and masculine, but with something interesting, sensual, and seductive. It sits halfway between fresh-warm-spicy and gourmand (without being too sweet). It confuses me because despite its simplicity, it’s rare. At first, I perceive cocoa and spices with fresh impressions. Soon, the cocoa seems to transform into slightly sweet, softly spiced chocolate. After ten minutes, it smells both cold and hot at the same time, like those coulant with pink pepper. The blend isn’t heavy, but light and homogeneous, with a rare synthetic musk. It’s linear, but has nice spaced-out nuances and changes (depending on the weather). Various types of pepper, a pinch of nutmeg. Despite liking it, I barely use it because it’s one of those colognes that leave you stranded and only serve for staying at home. The aroma is too “sophisticated” for that context. In my case, despite the initial strength, the performance is abysmal. It fixes poorly. I’ve tested it, putting on five sprays, and I’m not scented for even two hours. Sillage? Non-existent. Soft for the first few minutes to end up skin-close. What a pity… It’s a cologne and you have to use it. Even if the scent says otherwise. Seems this idea was transferred to Polo Red, where one could expect better performance. I only tried it once, it seemed similar but more generic and obvious… less interesting. For this Big Pony, which could be more, it ends up halfway… 7/10.

I finally managed to get the combo of 4 mini bottles from the RL Pony line to see if they were as bad as I read. With Pony 2, the first thing that comes to mind is a memory of Axe Dark Temptation, something half-chocolatey/vanilly but not very natural, yet not ugly for that reason. It has good longevity and projection, though maybe you need to overapply a bit (the mini bottles are splash, no spray nozzle). I see this line as special for a younger audience, high schoolers approx. 15-20 years old, so maybe classic Polo users won’t like it. Worth trying, after all, every skin and nose is a world.

Difficult fragrance. The opening has a lot of alcohol; after 5 minutes, vanilla kicks in (I don’t perceive chocolate), followed by just spices, woods, and some musk. After 1-2 hours, the scent tends to become spicy and very linear. It has good longevity, but the trail is weak.

  • It’s a perfume that hardly anyone will like… super alcoholic opening and spicy notes that smell like cigarettes to my nose. I wore it only because I already owned it, but it reminded me of how men smell after leaving a club. A mix of perfume, alcohol, cigarette smoke, and machine exhaust. The longevity was terrible, barely lasting 3 hours, but it was a relief because the scent wasn’t pleasant lol.
