A*Men Pure Havane by Mugler is an oriental vanilla fragrance for men. Launched in 2011, this composition was created by perfumer Jacques Huclier. The top notes reveal white honey and tobacco; the heart unfolds vanilla, cocoa, and patchouli; while the base notes complete the pyramid with amber, French labdanum, and styrax.

  • Personally, I can’t stand the classic A-Men. This version seems more balanced and less intrusive to me, with good sillage and longevity. I don’t love the opening entirely, but the heart and drydown are of very high quality for my taste. Approved. I’ll take this chance to wish everyone a Merry Christmas.

What an exquisite perfume, such a joy to wear! It has therapeutic properties against stress and anxiety. It takes away the chill but whets your appetite: you want to eat cherries, a vanilla cappuccino, oatmeal cookies with honey, and bits of rich chocolate. It doesn’t have as much sillage or longevity as other Thierry Mugler perfumes, but it holds up well with over-application and creates an aromatic aura that captivates everyone. In the drydown, I do manage to perceive the patchouli-DNA of A*MEN, but in a much richer, sweeter facet, less earthy, salty, and burnt. Cold winter mornings and warm clothing are its perfect companions. I love it.

I love it. The opening smells of tobacco with honey and cherry liqueur. In the development, you can distinguish the vanilla, patchouli, and a touch of cocoa-coffee. In the final phase, you feel the labdanum. I can’t stop smelling it. It really smells good. The opening reminded me of Burberry London. Good performance. I liked it more than Pure Malt. Best for autumn and winter, for night rather than day. Long-lasting longevity and moderate sillage.

What a perfume! You’ve probably had something remind you of someone before; with this EDT, you will be remembered. What a fragrance, so unconventional even though its components say the opposite. The creator played a great hand and added a tremendous fixative. It’s very high quality, both in aroma, sillage, and longevity. I own both the Pure Malt and this one; they are both tops in my collection. If you can get your hands on it, don’t hesitate.

  • Exquisite aroma. It opens strong with an intense cherry and tobacco scent (the tobacco is barely noticeable). The cherry doesn’t become cloying; it’s actually fresh. As the cherry fades… Oh my god! The scent is absolutely delicious. I’m reminded of cherry, tobacco, praline, and vanilla… If there were a cake that tasted as good as this perfume smells… I recommend buying it blind. At first, its low sillage and moderate longevity disappointed me, but I think it’s better that way; I see it as a virtue. Greater longevity could make it tiresome. It has just the right duration to surprise you with a different scent every half hour for about 8 hours, always leaving you wanting more. For me, one of the top 4 perfumes I’ve ever owned (Top: Black XS, A*MEN, and Escada Magnetism). 5/5, impossible to ask for more. P.S.: I also own Pure Malt, but I stick with Pure Havane by a wide margin.

Finally, I have it, and what can I say? It’s excellent. It reminds me of Animalé Animalé but is more exquisite and modern.

  • It’s like a cherry liqueur with sweet tobacco and a rough finish from the patchouli. Neither the vanilla nor the tobacco are the stars; here reigns the cherry liqueur, even though it’s not in the notes. I think it’s a magnificent combination that stimulates the palate like a dessert. It’s a very sexy aroma.

  • I like Mugler’s A*MEN PURE HAVANE more than the original A*MEN. Thierry Mugler’s perfumes prove that synthetics can reach heights of beauty. I prefer their feminine fragrances (ANGEL, ALIEN) for their intoxicating sensuality, which is often missing in the masculine ones. PURE HAVANE is more wearable than the original, which seems devoured by ethyl maltol. Although PURE HAVANE has ethyl maltol and a brash vanilla, it never becomes as repellent as the original. It doesn’t seek naturalness; the fragrance world is becoming increasingly artificial, but Mugler masks the artifice so the coffee smells like Colombian coffee and the cocoa like Ecuadorian chocolate. The opening shows a sweet Virginia blonde tobacco and a contained, honeyed ethyl maltol. You can detect a chypre greenness from labdanum, styrax, and a green patchouli, perhaps with mint, lavender, and thyme honey. The issue is the evolution: in the heart, the synthetic vanilla turns it into a high-quality insecticide that I don’t dislike, unlike the original. In the drydown, that brash tone disappears, and it reaches the mastery of Mugler’s feminines: a beautiful oriental accord. The sweet tobacco returns, the incense-like styrax, a vanilla-type amber gourmand dessert, an earthy patchouli, and blends of cocoa and coffee like a tiramisu. Mugler is a brilliant survivor of the triumvirate of the eighties, with its own wild style.

  • This fragrance commands so much respect that I’m almost intimidated to write about it. It’s one of my favorites despite a terrible first experience: the vanilla and patchouli overwhelmed my nose like a clown’s, and I couldn’t smell anything else that day. The drydown is sweet, a dialogue between honey, patchouli, and fresh tobacco, but its real merit lies in the drydown: BITTER, with tobacco, lots of cocoa, incense, and styrax. The longevity is spectacular; it soaks into your skin for hours and clothes for days. The only flaw is that it has no sillage. It’s a wonderful, dark, and deep scent. I fell in love with the drydown. It’s not a winter scent; I see it as perfect for an outdoor summer night (beach, terrace) with a woman nearby, because you won’t go unnoticed; it could be the scent of the Despacito music video.

  • Paolo Kallfkurá

I became an instant fan thanks to the forums. It’s a delight, even though the drydown didn’t convince me at first; it just needs time because it improves with wear. It’s a soft tobacco with a special sweetness of honey and cocoa. A true masterpiece that’s already hard to find here in Chile.

  • I bought it blind, maybe due to the good reviews or a sample of A*Men. The top notes are identical to the previous one, but the heart and base notes only deserve one expression. Wow!!!!

  • JimRubick

I bought a boxed bottle that says MUGLER, not Thierry Mugler, and it’s… garbage in terms of longevity and sillage. They killed this masterpiece. On my skin, it lasts an hour.

  • Metaleroenésimo

Motivated by the good reviews, I got some samples. I understand it’s a classic despite being limited; some say that, like Pure Malt, it turned out average. At the Corte Inglés in Alicante, they sell both at juicy prices. As a loyal fan of the original, this is to my liking. The DNA is present, revolving around a sweet tobacco, nothing rugged. Don’t expect smoke, but it does feel masculine. Tobacco wrapped in sweetened vanilla and patchouli counteract the cloying notes. Refined result, high quality. If you like tobacco fragrances, you have to try it. It smells like a tobacco shop. What I’m asking for is more projection and sillage. Longevity is good, perfect for fresh and cold days.

  • BassoProfumo

Damn… It’s like when someone enters without wanting to make noise or draw attention. I have a tester that generates that vibe. In short, you can tell it’s present; it’s quite long-lasting, but without making a scene. The bottle is just ‘Mugler’. The scent is amazing.

  • I think this is one of my best investments. Honestly, I didn’t want to buy it because I thought it would smell like ‘Old Man’ tobacco, which stinks, but I was greatly surprised with this A*Men Edition: sweet but not cloying, soft and shy. If you have it nearby, don’t hesitate to buy it.

  • Vicgarcia1990

I bought it blind based on the reviews, and I really like it. I think it’s perfect for someone who likes the original A*Men but doesn’t dare or finds it overwhelming. I don’t detect tobacco; when dry, it smells like cherries, even giving me vibes of Guerlain Ideal. Very good perfume, more youthful than Pure Malt, less sweet than Pure Tonka, much more wearable and less loud than the original.

  • In Mugler’s usual line, this time with lots of tobacco and cocoa when dry. Sweet all the time, vanilla base with other aromas on top. It lacks the intensity and longevity typical of Mugler; you have to use more. Of the ones I’ve tried, Pure Tonka is a bomb. This one is nice, sweet, with tobacco and cocoa-vanilla, but it doesn’t speak to me; it lacks charisma and personality. It’s okay for winter, but I don’t see it as a necessity.

  • Carlos Eduardo galvez gai

I’m a mega-fan of the A*Men line but never cared for this fragrance because of the tobacco… until I ordered it blind. To my surprise, it smells like tobacco, but not smoky; more like a pipe or ashtray; it’s a tobacco leaf with honey over fruity vanilla and patchouli. Anyone who’s opened a box of Habanos knows what this smells like: faithfully honeyed tobacco, like in a Cuban plantation (I’m from Cuba). It feels synthetic, like a good Mugler, but not as plastic as others; simple evolution but delicious. The only downside is average/low performance compared to other summer flankers. Each flanker has its own personality; they aren’t identical.

  • I picked it up for the tobacco touch, but I don’t detect pure tobacco, just like in Armani Code. What I do find is exquisitely sweet, probably due to the honey. 212 Sexy has vanilla and is cloying; this one is subtly sweet and rich, perhaps from the honey, vanilla, and cocoa blend. Very delicious. Great for a date with your girlfriend in your 30s, to hug and cuddle in your arms.

  • Honestly, I bought it blind because I couldn’t find other flankers of the A*Men line here, and what a surprise: on my skin, it’s spectacular. The tobacco note is there, but softened by vanilla; it’s not annoying or invasive at all. Perfect for the office or autumn/winter. If you’re looking for a less intense, more wearable tobacco scent, this delightful option will pleasantly surprise you. I’d give it a 9.

  • Top 3 gourmand. Strong opening, like tobacco in sweet cherry liquid. In the dry down, it’s rich, vanilla. An EDT more potent than many EDPs, one of the strongest in my collection. It doesn’t drive women crazy, but you get a pleasant sillage all day. 100% recommended.

  • Vibrant opening of caramelized cherries giving way to sweet tobacco. Jovial with a touch of maturity. The atomizer could be improved. Scent: 8.5, Originality: 9, Versatility: 8, Season: autumn/winter, Occasions: evening and night, Age: under 35, Quality: 9.5, Price: 8.5, Sillage: 9, Longevity: 9, Design: 7. Total: 8.5. Feeling: an afternoon at the bar with friends.

  • Good fragrance. On my skin, it smells like breaded tobacco with cherry. After 4 hours, it shifts to vanilla with honey. Lasts about 6 hours with moderate to heavy sillage.

  • Trailhawk

I don’t smell tobacco at the start, just a bit of vanilla after. Light sweetness, nothing like classic A-Men. On my skin, projection and longevity are scarce, about an hour, only sillage. I prefer classic A-Men and Pure-Malt to this.

  • It’s a sweet bomb, gourmand with honey, vanilla, chocolate, and cherry. A treat for cold weather and unisex. Like with Warm Black or Naxos, I don’t notice the tobacco in these sweet perfumes. Lastly, the worst bottle/spray mechanism I own; it costs a fortune to spray it well.

  • With all due respect, this has nothing to do with CH VIP BLACK. I own both and they are different. This Mugler is my favorite from the line. If you’re looking for something more refined, try Naxos by Xerjoff, which is delicious.

  • Good if you like sweets. The tobacco at the start is sweet pipe tobacco, not habano, so if you don’t know it, you won’t notice. Then vanilla, patchouli, and amber take over. Lasts decently: 4 hours of projection and up to 7 hours on skin. Great for autumn/winter, day or night, in informal settings like a café or library. Depends on each person’s olfactory psychology. Too bad it’s limited edition. Rating 7.

  • Smells like ripe cherries with chocolate and honey. The tobacco note is soft, gourmand, and seductive. It’s less potent than the original, with more patchouli and cedar. Perfect for stylish young men in jeans and jackets on cool days. Autumn and winter are ideal. I love the sweetness, though the cherry can get tiring. I wish there was more wood. Gourmand and appetizing.

  • Fragancefran

I love it, it’s a bomb. It doesn’t smell cloying or as sweet as people say, and I don’t detect any tobacco. It’s a very milky, subtle, and charming cream.

  • jackmonteria

Want the original scent??? Buy Animale-Animale… this one is a total copy of the aforementioned, being the Animal that’s more “tobacco-heavy,” less sweet… and stronger! 🙂

  • gosxicotet

Total gourmand. On one wrist, A*Men Pure Havane; on the other, Xerjoff Naxos. Wow, they are very similar. Dense, with a sweetness that isn’t cloying. For me, the only difference is that I find a tiny herbal/”medicinal” note in Naxos that Pure Havane lacks, making it a bit flatter in that aspect, which doesn’t affect its quality. Fans of SpiceBomb Extreme, Le Male, and that style will surely love Pure Havane.

  • Tested side-by-side with Naxos, I confirm what others said; they smell very similar, I’d say 95%. Maybe Naxos smells a bit more refined, but essentially they are the same aroma (and the few differences are only noticeable when testing them simultaneously; alone, it’s almost impossible to tell them apart unless you’re very accustomed to them). Longevity and projection are also very similar. Both scents are delicious. The problem is that this one is discontinued, but you can still find it second-hand for about half the price of Naxos (note: it must say only Mugler, not Thierry Mugler).

  • JohnAcosta25

👌 My favorite winter and gourmand fragrance. This scent makes people remember me during Christmas or cold weather. That smell of ripe cherries (an undeclared note, maybe cocoa) combined with unrefined honey, which later blends into a fine, not heavy tobacco in its development, always envelops me. It has a milky, creamy aura that’s very gourmand. I don’t smoke, and my father smoked his whole life, so the smell of tobacco usually repels me, but in this version, so well carried, controlled, and light, I can only say: “Spectacular.” 9.8 out of 10 just because it can be a bit tricky in the summer, haha.

  • A*Men Pure Malt by Mugler: I won’t talk about the notes that have already been mentioned. Discontinued, though still available. The olfactory experience is very refined, meant to be interpreted as an exclusive luxury for those who stand out. It’s not opulent but exclusive, good taste, finesse without being scandalous or eccentric. It’s the perfect balance of the extraordinary. From the most striking to the most lucid, this work makes itself known as the owner of the scene. A true protagonist. A complete aroma, of class, personality, temperament, and character, of strength and tenacity. An aroma that knows no insecurity; it’s scent, color, passion, and movement. Simply splendid fragrance. Best for preferential nighttime use with elegant formal wear. For confident men. Scent: 10. Projection: Regular for 2 hours. Longevity: 8 hours. Recommended.

  • LosPerfumesDeJavi

Well, this is the least favorite of the A*Men line for me; it smells like my grandfather’s bedroom: pure tobacco. I like tobacco in some fragrances, but not in this one. The longevity is amazing and the trail is great. The moment I smell it, I sneeze immediately—I don’t know why, but it hurts my nose. It’s strong in every sense and very well made, BUT it’s not for me. I hate it. A colleague is fascinated by it, but the further away it is from me, the better.

  • In my humble opinion, it smells very similar to Kilian’s Angels Share. Even though they don’t list the vanilla note, it smells remarkably close.

  • Josué González Céspedes

I bought Galactic Men Intense by Maison Alhambra and it’s 99.99% identical to this one. It’s excellent and I recommend it without hesitation.

  • As the guy below said, Galactic Men Intense by Maison Alhambra is the same thing. What a beast of a fragrance! I picked it up for $20 and the longevity is spectacular.

  • I have no idea what Naxos smells like, but I keep this one because it’s a unique masterpiece. Sweet, woody, with a dark, vanilla intensity as it dries down thanks to the Styrax—truly indescribable. If you see it on eBay, grab it; it won’t leave you indifferent. It’s incredibly addictive.
