From the first spray, it smells like A*men Pure Malt but without the fruit, featuring a potent smoky note. Coffee is noticeable in the heart and dry down, evoking the classic A*men but improved. Its trail is spectacular and addictive. For me, it’s the best version of A*men, surpassing the 2009 Pure Malt. The bottle in person doesn’t look as good as in the photos.
From the first spray, it reminds me a lot of A*men Pure Malt, but without being fruity. It smells strongly of smoke, coffee stays in the heart notes and a bit in the base, emerging a clear memory of the classic A*men but very well blended. The best part is the sillage: spectacular drydown and addictive. For me, it’s the best version of A*men, after the 2009 Pure Malt. The bottle presentation in real life isn’t as pretty as in the photos.
I tried it yesterday. At first, it reminded me of Pure Malt, then it took on a darker but addictive tone. Right now, I’m smelling the box, and the drydown is spectacular. A must-buy.
I tried it yesterday: at first, it sounds like Pure Malt, then it takes on a dark and addictive tone. Right now, I’m smelling the cardboard, and the dry down is incredible. A must-buy.
I tried it and the first impression didn’t grab me; it seemed like a touch of whiskey. I’ll have to give it more chances because it’s by Thierry Mugler and you need to know how to taste it with patience. Personally, I stick with Pure Havane (pure vanilla and caramelized) and the original A*men, which has more punch. I’ll try Pure Wood again to see if I change my mind.
I love it. It smells of sandalwood, incense, honey, and wood. The only downside is that it doesn’t project much and sometimes doesn’t last, but the scent itself is excellent.
I met it today, a friend was carrying it. I liked it a lot: it projects well without being overwhelming and smells very masculine. It’s woody but sweet; I’m going to look for it for my husband.
I don’t know what’s going on with my skin and this brand; they simply don’t get along, unfortunately.
Pure Wood is sweet, intense, and woody. I hate things that are too sweet because they’re intrusive, but this is an exception. It comes out strong like the original A*men, very sweet and heavy for the first 30 minutes, but then it softens without losing presence. It reminded me a bit of Opium for Men, but here there are no fruits, just intense resins and woods. Ideal for winter; don’t use it in the heat or you’ll regret it. Lasts over 12 hours with notable projection.
It’s the ‘for the people’ version of Amouage Interlude: 90-95% identical to the original but at a ridiculous price. If you don’t know the original, this is the same thing, just cheaper. It’s linear, bitter, and has a tobacco sensation (perhaps due to the cypress, coffee, and oak, though I can’t quite distinguish that oak). More than wood, it’s dark and bitter like the Interlude. I only notice a touch of vanilla. Someone said it smells like aged whiskey, and they’re right; it’s bitter and slightly spoiled whiskey. It lasted about 10 hours with moderate sillage. I didn’t like it; it was annoying to me, but if you want to try it: wear it in the cold, because in the heat it gives you nausea.
It’s the ‘mass market’ version of Amouage Interlude, a dupe that matches it at 90-95% for only 1/5th of the price. For those who don’t know the original, this Pure Wood is the same thing but cheaper. It’s linear from start to finish, bitter, and tobacco-like; although it doesn’t say it has tobacco, that sensation comes from cypress, coffee, and oak (note that I can’t separate them). More woody than anything, I felt it was dark and bitter, just like Interlude. I only perceive vanilla slightly. In another review, someone noted a touch of whiskey, and it’s true, but it’s a bitter or off-whiskey, going bad. On my skin, it lasts about 10 hours with a moderate trail. I didn’t like it and found it slightly unpleasant, but if you want to try it, it’s for cold or less fresh climates; in heat, it can cause nausea.
Sorry, but in my opinion, this has nothing to do with Interlude. Interlude isn’t gourmand; it doesn’t carry vanilla, coffee, patchouli… Pure Wood isn’t resinous; it doesn’t have opoponax, leather, oud, amber, or incense. This Mugler version is much calmer and softer, with less body and density. In fact, I find it softer than the original A*Men from its first formulation. It’s like comparing Acqua di Gio to Opium. An exaggeration made by Drakecito, but I think the point gets across. It’s just another flanker of the super-popular A*Men, interesting. It adds a woodier, perhaps drier touch over the characteristic patchouli and vanilla base. A little more and I think it’s generally pleasant.
Regardless of the notes, if they were vanilla ice cream, rice pudding, or even ‘pizza,’ which would make it gourmand, in my opinion it bears a strong resemblance to Amouage Interlude. Yes, it’s true that this one is much calmer and softer. As I mentioned, it costs only 1/5th of Amouage; what more can you expect in terms of intensity? Likewise, it wasn’t really to my liking.
It’s a formidable and elegant perfume with character that boosts you wherever you go. I never get tired of smelling it; it smells expensive, and you know it is. You can get it at a good price in Chile, around $77 for 100 ml. It works 100% better in winter, on cold days, afternoons, nights, or galas; it unleashes all its nuanced artillery throughout the hours. It’s versatile and a very natural wood scent.
Well, according to the best-selling Thierry Mugler fragrances in Europe and the US, the top 11 are: 1- A*Men, 2- A*MEN Pure Wood, 3- A*MEN Urban, 4- B*Men, 5- Pure Leather, 6- Pure Malt, 7- Pure Havane, 8- Pure Taste, 9- Pure Shot, 10- Urban, 11- Ultra Zest. Ultimately, one evolves and starts seeing a whole new world in the gourmand realm, exploring scents you never imagined and becoming more demanding, leaving behind mass-market and boring fragrances. That’s the most redeeming part; each one has its own differences and privileges.
I’ve been watching reviews for over a month, waiting for my bottle, and it finally arrived. To my taste, this is the best in the Pure line—the driest and therefore the most versatile. It was love at first sniff, incredible, totally natural, and delicious. A must-buy for collectors or anyone looking for something different. I’ll update on sillage and longevity; so far, on my skin it projects strongly for 3 hours. Greetings from Xalapa, Veracruz.
I own Pure Tonka, Pure Malt, and Ultra Zest from A*MEN, and compared to the others, this is the weakest in projection, the driest, with a woody aroma, yet it always carries the A*MEN DNA. My rating is a 5. If the longevity were better, I’d bump it up to 8 or higher.
Oak, vanilla, and patchouli are very noticeable; it smells identical to the original, a 10/10 on scent, but I give it a 7/10 for longevity: it lasts 6-7 hours with a 2-3 hour trail. Ideal for cold nights due to its sweetness. Overall, it’s a solid launch, and if you like Mugler-style perfumes, it can’t be missing from your collection. 8/10.
The oak, vanilla, and patchouli are very noticeable; to me, it smells just as good as the original, a 10/10, but I’m giving it a 7/10 for performance because it lasts a maximum of 6 to 7 hours, and the sillage is only 2 to 3 hours. It’s good for cold nights due to its sweetness. Overall, it’s a solid launch, and if you like Mugler perfumes, you can’t go without it. I’d rate it an 8/10.
This is one of those perfumes you can wear to work, and people will surely compliment you for the gourmand woody fragrance. In the mornings, it’s pure glory; in the afternoons, it feels a bit fresh, but that sweetness adds a refreshing touch. The oak-vanilla-coffee trio makes for a rich scent. I haven’t tried it at night yet, but it should be great for casual gatherings. For formal occasions, there are better options.
Pure Wood is super autumnal. The star note is the oak wood that envelops everything, surrounded by vanilla, coffee, patchouli, and cypress. It’s my second favorite A*Men flanker after Pure Tonka. It feels great to wear; it’s like walking through an oak-filled field, and the wood scent is very natural. It has excellent sillage and longevity.
Most flankers in this line follow the same formula: the base of the original A*Men with one or two extra notes. Those notes dominate at first, but as they dry down, they blend seamlessly with the base. In this Pure Wood, it’s oak. I’m not sure what real oak smells like, but here I detect a very dry, no-compromise wood vibe straight out of the 80s.
