It’s like an autumn afternoon in France, surrounded by barrels and baskets of fruit. The trail is a warm, sophisticated embrace. The only flaw is longevity: for such richness, it should last longer. In a niche market, fading quickly is disappointing. It’s a fleeting luxury, like the last sip of cognac. Still, it’s a unique experience in the gourmand world. Dried fruits and spices with cognac are a rare profile. It’s not pure sugar, but a refined, almost fermented sweetness. The woods give classic depth. It manages to be sweet without being obvious, without excessive vanilla, but with mature notes like dried grapes. Although it doesn’t last long, it’s addictive and requires reapplication. If you’re looking for something similar but longer-lasting, try Baccarat Rouge 540 or Hermès Ambre Narguilé, or Maison Margiela By the Fireplace for a smoky touch. 1270 is for those seeking something rich and sensory, sophisticated but not ostentatious, ideal for small pleasures like a glass of cognac. But its lack of longevity can be frustrating given the price. Better to try it in decants for special occasions.

I tested it with an 8ml decant from a niche subscription and learned you have to give fragrances a fair chance. The first time I smelled the 1270, I thought it was clearly masculine and almost gave it to my partner, but it’s unisex and we share it. It opens with a very fruity top note that evolves into a delicious dessert-like dry down, boozy, with fruits, nuts, spices, and cocoa. It smells sweet and warm, an atypical gourmand that’s addictive and I want to wear it all the time. I love how it smells and it has good sillage, but the price hurts and it doesn’t last long on my skin. Scent: 10/10, Longevity: 6/10, Sillage: 7/10, Value: 3/10, Versatility: 8/10, Packaging: 6/10. Would I buy it again? No.

I can clearly distinguish several notes in the blend: delicious pineapple, plum, nuts, cocoa, coffee, honey, vanilla, and hazelnut. It’s one of the most special and well-balanced gourmands I’ve tried. While sweet, it’s not heavy or annoying, even in enclosed spaces. What disappoints me is the longevity and projection; it lasts about 6-7 hours with 3 hours of good projection, but for a gourmand, I expected more—perhaps like Bond No. 9’s New Harlem, which exceeds 12 hours. Additionally, given Frapin’s high price (over $250 for 100ml), it’s not worth overspending. Still, it’s a fantastic and masterfully crafted scent, one of my favorites.

Frapin 1270 is a delicious gourmand, clearly niche due to its quality. Balanced ingredients embraced by a refined oud. It’s sweet but not cloying, totally unisex. It’s for personal enjoyment and close encounters. It doesn’t last long, longevity is scarce, and projection is medium-low; it stays close to the skin.

Too bad it doesn’t last long enough for its price and how good it smells.
