I’ve tried it several times because the first time it felt very strange to me, and the other times it was the same… It smells like the cork of natural Asturian cider once the cork has dried. I don’t dislike it, but I don’t want to keep smelling like that. They tell me it’s wheat, but I swear on my skin it doesn’t smell like wheat…
Very good and evolving, it has the Kilian DNA. The opening smells like whiskey, then it turns amber. It’s elegant.

This week I dove into the universe of Kilian’s Old Fashioned, a fragrance promising the essence of the iconic cocktail. From the start, it transports you to an elegant jazz bar, with aged whisky and wood notes creating an enveloping atmosphere. The opening, according to Fragrantica, mixes wheat and davana to emulate the sweet liqueur, but on my skin, the wheat isn’t noticeable; instead, it smells like the cork of a freshly opened cider bottle. As it evolves, the heart features cedar and immortelle, giving a resinous warmth like sitting in a library with a whisky in hand. The base of balsam of Peru adds balsamic depth and ambered richness, reminiscent of oak barrels. It reminds me of Single Malt from the same house, though here it’s less sweet and more woody. Within The Liquors collection, it aims to honor classic cocktails, but I feel it doesn’t reach the complexity of other Kilian creations like Black Phantom. It’s an interesting interpretation, but it lacks the innovative spark that characterizes the brand. It captures sophistication and nostalgia, ideal for a warm, woody aroma with a liqueur touch, though for Kilian connoisseurs, it might not surprise much.
Based on my experience, it starts with mezcal and brandy notes, lasting about an hour smelling like pure alcohol, which I don’t like because I’m not a drinker. Then it transforms completely into something like an angel share without cinnamon but very ambered—delicious. I didn’t love the dry-down because the drinky scent lingers too long, but the trail it leaves is worth it.
