Sunrise On The Red Sand Dunes by Zara is an aromatic citrus fragrance for men. Launched in 2023, this composition is signed by perfumer Mylène Alran. At the top, bergamot and ginger take a vibrant first step; the heart reveals mandarin, orange blossom, and blackcurrant, while the base settles with musk and amber.

  • Excellent scent, fresh citrus opening that explodes upon spraying, really surprised me because the listed notes are noticeable (bergamot, tangerine, orange blossom). It’s true that after an hour it stops projecting and stays as a skin scent for about 3-4 hours with a pleasant soapy aroma. Clearly, it doesn’t last or project much, but for the price, reapplying isn’t painful. Worth it for spring and summer, very enjoyable, and everyone who tried it liked it.

A gem, but a Zara gem. I don’t know Imagination, but this smells delicious, excellent longevity, excellent quality, applause for Zara 👏.

  • BassoProfumo

It smells good, but it falls short on performance. I think there are other clones that resemble Imagination more. In my opinion, it’s overrated.

  • PerfumistaAmateur

A work of art… an ephemeral one. It lasts less than Mexico did in the World Cup and has less projection than John Carter.

I’ve used it again with the launch of the Intense (hope Fragrantica updates soon, though with Zara’s pace, it’s difficult). It’s exceptional quality/price. If you like citrus and woody notes, moving away from the classics, give it a try. Now, with the new Intense, it’s harder to recommend. Only if you want more spark, freshness, and initial projection, or for hot days, since the new version improves perceived quality and especially longevity. The new one is denser and darker. Here, they nailed the name: it’s the same but more ‘Intense’.

  • Very citrusy and sharp at first, even a bit astringent. The ginger is noticeable for the first half hour, then orange blossom takes over. Fresh, tasty, and affordable. Its only flaw is longevity: after an hour and a half, it’s skin scent, and by two hours, it’s just a memory.

  • It’s an outstanding perfume for Zara. The scent is very citrusy, then I notice ginger. Longevity and projection are moderate. Considering the price, I highly recommend it. It’s very easy to wear, in both cold and hot days.

  • It smells a bit like LV’s Imagination, but that’s about it. I bought it for that reason and was disappointed. It has a floral touch over the citrus, very synthetic. It doesn’t smell bad, but it’s not a masterpiece, and it certainly doesn’t replace the LV one, which lasts longer. Here, the longevity is very weak. The only good thing is the price, but Vibrant Leather is much better for €19. That’s truly a masterstroke; this one left me cold.

  • I haven’t tried Imagination, so I won’t compare it, and comparing it at this price would be unfair. I bought it on sale and it’s the best Zara perfume I’ve had. It’s very citrusy, with that spicy and musky undertone that gives it a nice punch (though brief). It lasts better than expected, but since it’s Zara, don’t expect more than 4 hours. At first, it’s sharp and projects well; after 3 hours, it becomes more intimate, almost just on your arm. Would I buy it again? Yes, excellent quality/price, it doesn’t hurt to reapply, smells great, gets compliments, and if you live through a scorching summer, it’ll be pleasant.

Perfect for hot weather, an energizing fragrance. The blend of bergamot, tangerine, and ginger feels like a rich, refreshing iced tea. Lasts 3-4 hours with great initial projection, then leaves a soft trail. Great job by Zara; competitive quality and price.

  • nachovorago

A sweet citrus scent for all year round. It could be your signature because it’s long-lasting. Unbeatable quality-to-price ratio.

  • Please Zara, don’t take it off the market. If you like citrus, it’s a 10/10 for the price. It’s a clean, pleasant citrus that no one can dislike. I love wearing it on my skin all day. I own both this and the Intense version and use them both: this for daily wear and the Intense for special occasions. I’m not an expert, just a regular user.

  • Absolute Zara gem! Wish they never discontinue it. Lasts forever on clothes, less on skin. Highly recommended for ginger lovers; it’s balanced and versatile for any occasion.

  • It’s not the ‘quality’ they claim. It’s acceptable, but at $25 in Chile, there are better options, like Arabic dupes. It smells good, fresh, and powerful at first, but after 3-4 hours, it’s gone. Maybe the €19 box price explains why.

  • Pplacchetta

I bought it today. Even though it doesn’t last long and has weak projection, it’s so rich! It’s one of those fragrances meant for self-application, with a great price. Recommended!

  • This one takes a different direction. It doesn’t smell soapy like the Imagination clones, but rather fruity, similar to Pacific Chill. I loved it!

  • The tangerine and bergamot dominate the opening, super sweet and explosive, perhaps due to the amber; everything feels a bit artificial. It’s energizing but annoying. Unlike Imagination, the bergamot and ginger are barely noticeable. It doesn’t give a quality vibe. In the dry-down, they come closer. It’s a men’s scent; for over 35s, it’s too sweet and lacks elegance, but it could work for younger guys.

  • If you love citrus and want to save money, you’ve come to the perfect place. It beats most designer perfumes. Zara has really raised the bar lately.

  • To be honest, it has its pros and cons. I’m picky about the opening and dry-down; here, the opening is strong and smells like cleaner, but it improves once it dries. I bought a decant and saved myself. Always try decants first—every nose is different.

  • Pablobar21

To me, it smells like too much talcum powder; not worth the hype. It doesn’t last at all, just like most Zara scents here in Argentina.

  • cvargasb74

I love it. Every nose is a different world; it lasts enough for me (more than 7 hours) and reapplying doesn’t hurt given the price. It has a very citrusy opening (and some don’t like it), but it satisfies me from start to finish. Try it before buying.

  • Fran1976

I recommend the Intense version. Although it smells good, you have to spray a lot to notice it. For just a bit more, buy the Intense.

  • Mauriciop

This is the closest dupe to Imagination I’ve smelled, but it only lasts 2 hours.

  • Zara, with that talent for making perfumes that cost less than a vermouth, decided to bottle a sunrise in the desert. With red sand and catalog mystique. They called it Sunrise on the Red Sand Dunes because ‘Citrus with woods’ didn’t sound romantic enough. And hey, they didn’t mess up. A citrus explosion with bergamot and tangerine that hits the spot. Fresh, vibrant, clean. It has that youthful kick that works well. Then comes the orange blossom with ginger, an exotic vibe. It’s not deep, but it has charm. Drying down, it leaves a musk and amber base that doesn’t smell like plasticine. It delivers. It doesn’t conquer cities, but it can save a day. It’s a perfume for days without pretensions.

  • No intention to diminish Zara’s hit, but the scent smells like lemon dish soap. It’s peculiar, fresh, neat, and a bit futuristic. It lasted me about 5 hours, not bad for the price. If Imagination smells like this, I’ll save my 300€.

  • Soy_como_quiero ser

It’s good: yes. It’s different: yes. It’s cheap: yes. It’s fascinating: in my opinion, no. It’s a rich citrus fragrance, plain and simple. It’s not bad, but it didn’t blow my mind like the reviewers claim. Maybe it just didn’t hook me, but taste is subjective. My rating: 7.

  • Carles Avilés

Radiant opening where bergamot blends with ginger to create a luminous, spiced atmosphere, like the first rays of sun. The dry-down is lively, citrusy, and sparkling. In the heart, tangerine intertwines with orange blossom and blackberry, creating a contrast between light and shadow. The finish is soft, with a subtle amber and a musky base that maintains serenity. It speaks of freedom and new beginnings. A clean, tranquil elegance. If it had a color, it would be a pale, translucent orange, like a desert sky before dawn.

  • It’s a delight, an energizing fragrance full of soapy citrus energy. The weird thing is that it lasts forever; I could still smell it on my skin 20 hours later, which is rare for a citrus, especially from Zara. I don’t get why others say it doesn’t last; maybe it just works wonders on my skin.

  • Reminds me of the Acqua di Parma cologne soap, but with the citrus cranked up to max and an amber touch. The ginger is strong here. Performance is decent for summer use. Works for the office if you don’t overdo it.

  • I don’t get this guy’s success. He forced me to shower immediately and wash all my clothes. It smells like rotten tangerine, very rotten, as if you mixed the fruit with dirty bleach from start to finish.

  • Leonardo-Ramirez

I love it. Although it tries to be like the LV Imagination, it strays enough to have its own soul. As a dupe, it’s bad; it lacks that typical black tea note of the LV, but as a fragrance on its own it’s a 10/10. The dry down is softly sweet and embraces the citrus opening. Personally, I prefer this to the LV or dupes like Full House, because I’m not a tea fan; this Zara suits me better, which I’d describe as a white lemon caramel. 🍋

  • I don’t understand how they allow people to insult and lie about how perfumes smell just because they cost 30€ and not 400€, or because they’ve smelled them for 5 minutes and already give lectures. What do you expect from a 30€ fragrance in a store? Do you know the juggling acts to make something decent against a 400€ one? Anyway, I’m getting heated. To summarize: it opens with citrus and leaves a very good orange scent. Very versatile for everything. For 30€, you get plenty of perfume.

  • ChukiTrucco

Very sparkly and energizing opening, almost identical to the LV Imagination at first, but it differentiates a bit as it dries. Very pleasant and good performance in the first half hour, but then it fades quite a bit, staying close to the skin for about 2 hours. Maybe letting it mature for a few months would help. Olfactorily, it’s highly recommended.

  • I’d almost say I like it more than the Imagination and it lasts as long as the LV one or longer. At least to me, it reminds me a lot of that one, but without the tea.

  • SebastianC2702

It’s a marvel. I tested it over a year ago at Zara and was blown away; thanks to it I discovered the Imagination DNA and now the LV one is my favorite, I bought the 200ml. I use it for the gym and nobody complains. It’s brutal! PS: I like the original more than the intense, because the classic is more transparent and the intense can be overwhelming.

  • This Zara gem has a citrus, fresh, and spicy profile with a touch of white floral that makes it unique. The opening is fruity and aromatic, maintaining that constant freshness. I love it and was surprised by how long it lasts on the skin, which is rare for this style. The trail is short but the scent is noticeable for hours. It smells super clean, fresh, with a relaxing marine nuance. The citrus is the best, vibrant and natural. As it dries, it turns into a blue cologne, denser and more versatile. Ideal for going out, the gym, or work: it doesn’t suffocate, it’s discreet but persistent.

  • For the price, it’s excellent. Smells good and performs better than usual for Zara. Perfect for the gym or stuff like that, honestly.

  • I tried it hoping it was the same as my friend’s Imagination, but they have nothing to do with each other. The LV one is citrusy and green, beautiful. This Zara one takes a different path; honestly, it didn’t even remind me of the LV one.

  • The mistake is comparing it to the LV one; Zara is cheap and has its limits. The citrus opening cuts a bit and smells synthetic, but then it softens with sweet blue notes. After a while, it becomes more floral and sweet, making it great for the office: heads don’t turn, but you don’t look bad either. You have to reapply due to the price, but it lasts more than 5 hours on skin. If you don’t expect miracles, it’s worth it.

  • It’s a Zara classic for lasting power and projection. Didn’t hook me at first, but I ended up buying it and it’s not for fighting. Perfect for summer if you want to switch from aquatic scents. The citrus note smells a bit artificial, but nobody cares when you’re out with the girl; my balls will notice. Great for normal outings, neither daily nor party wear. Hugs.
