With this review, I close the Zara trilogy of ‘the woods.’ Maybe Wood Noir is the most complex and the best, though it comes down to taste in a male line that, given what we’ve seen, deserves applause. There’s a lot of wood, and in the opening, the herbal notes make it look like a 90s classic, one of those fresh spicy but jovial ones without losing masculinity. The woody base is excellent, noticeable from the start, and it delights with its nuances, to which a metallic bergamot note gradually incorporates itself, present but not overwhelming, pairing with sandalwood and amber as a duo that closes the composition. Spectacular, contemporary, refined, mature with a youthful spirit, seductive, exclusive, and sophisticated. It loses a bit of exoticism compared to its line mates but gains in urbanity and presence. It’s one of those perfumes that generate automatic compliments because it fits the rules without losing class. Acceptable projection: it’s not a monster, but it will be noticed. Longevity above average. I recommend it 100%. Rating: 9/10.
Great woody perfume. After reading the previous review, I don’t know what to add since I share 100% of Bofifa’s opinion. The backbone is the wood: dark, spicy notes with a certain mystery, very sinuous and pleasant. At the start, I smell the bergamot, which gives it freshness and acidity, but little by little lavender and sage appear. Along with the woods, they create a floral aroma, something powdery and dusty, which I absolutely loved. In the end, it’s a creamy wood with a spicy and ambered touch, as if it had some undeclared amber. It’s a fragrance to applaud with your ears; if a prestigious brand signed it, it would have many more reviews and everyone would be talking about it. Since it comes from Zara, it seems like it gives a rash, but it’s magnificent, original, and deserves more attention. Moderate-to-high longevity and moderate projection; with the price it has, you can’t ask for more. Highly recommended.
Zara’s specs say Wood Noir is a dry wood, and that’s not bad; it’s hard to add another descriptor. Maybe it’s woody-herbaceous, but the herbs are just a touch of color, not the main description. It’s a pleasant and well-made fragrance. It’s not as bold as Zara’s Exclusive Oud, nor do I like it as much, but it still fits into the oriental fragrances I enjoy. The woods (probably oud, agarwood, rosewood, and patchouli) are lightened by lavender, bergamot, and sage, giving it a herbaceous tone with citrus accents. Highly recommended for quality, packaging, and price. Scent: wonderful woody. Sillage: moderate. Longevity: moderate. Performance: high. Value: excellent. Usage: evening/winter.
I bought it because I loved it in the tester, but watch out: this Zara Oriental trilogy doesn’t have names written on the bottles. Upon opening and applying it, the scent was totally different from what I smelled in the tester. I think the one I liked was an Exclusive Oud mislabeled. Still, I wanted to love it, but it just doesn’t quite convince me. It’s super woody (cedar?), I know the name predicts it, but I was expecting to feel the other notes. Plus its potency and longevity, it ends up being too heavy for me. At first, it seems like it won’t be that strong, but I’m not sure if it’s the high concentration acting like oils; once it settles on the skin, it starts radiating more. I tried CH Insignia Men afterward and it seemed similar, but in a more wearable version. Zara Wood Noir is just for lovers of heavy woods.
This is a first-class intense perfume. On my skin, it lasts over 12 hours. Even though it’s not listed in the specs, it smells like incense from start to finish; it’s the note I perceive most throughout the entire development. Without a doubt, it’s elegant.
I’ve been hunting for this guy online for 3 months until I finally snagged him on a German eBay for 40 euros, which is a steal. It’s worth it, though I don’t think it justifies that price tag; there are more expensive options with worse quality. I bought it anyway and I’m definitely keeping it. Cheers, and PS: save this for future anecdotes about hidden gems.
