Velvet Orchid Lumière is an elegant fragrance featuring a paradisiacal orchida loaded with pirate rum, though the flower really takes the lead. It’s similar to its sister scent, but I think the rose and orchid work better than the jasmine, and I absolutely love this version. It smells very serious—not dark, but formal, classic yet trying to break the mold. The rum gives a strong alcoholic opening, but seconds later it starts to gently intoxicate you, with magic, like a good lover. The trail is moderate and the longevity is good close to the skin. I can imagine this more on an elegant man than a woman. The price, depending on the site and in a small format, makes it tempting to treat yourself.
Honestly, this didn’t work for me at all. It’s an exotic, resinous floral, sexy, with honeyed, boozy, and sweet notes—a jelly or syrup sweetness soaked into the orchid. However, there’s something off… Half an hour after applying it, it takes on a strange tone of dirty, calcified teeth that I can’t quite explain. It’s a greasy, cloying scent that made my stomach turn. EDIT: After wearing it on my wrist for a few hours, I finally know what it reminds me of: dog breath. Not bad breath, just straight-up dog breath, a little sour, a little sweet, and a tiny bit musky.

Got this as a birthday gift and it’s a perfume bomb—super sexy and enveloping. I can definitely detect the orchid, rose with honey, rum, and myrrh in the background; it smells amazing. The trail is moderate and it lasts about 6 hours on my skin.
