It has a powerful opening; it’s really hard to smell this part. The scents are very measured, with a hint of wet clothes and some animal urine to my nose; it feels dry, not creamy. I was eager to experience that truffle scent I never found; the chocolate smell is more conceptual than perceptible (you mentally construct the chocolate truffle scent based on what the fragrance distills). A negative point in that aspect. It feels very sophisticated and powerful, not suitable for delicate noses. If I describe it with lots of glamour: black velvet, aged liquor, and dark chocolate. Power: 10/10, Versatility: 7/10, Longevity: 10/10.
It’s a good perfume. I tried this version to see if it was less cloying than the EDP, and indeed, it’s much darker, but the scents still don’t suit me. Maybe it’s the patchouli load. It performs quite well; I had crumbs of a sample that I had to vaporize a thousand times to get anything out, yet I smelled it without issues both at home and outside. The neroli note isn’t perceived distinctly but is very integrated and soft, just like the incense and vanilla, but the stars are undoubtedly truffle and patchouli.
Powerful, dark, and boozy, with fruity, gourmand, woody, and earthy notes. Wow! The bottle is understated, sober, and beautiful. I made a mistake ordering the EDT and haven’t been able to smell the EDP in person because there’s no trace of Tom Ford in my city, not even at the prehistoric El Corte Inglés, so I can’t imagine the potency of the EDP. Its truffle note (don’t confuse it with chocolate) gives it a super sexy touch. I love it; it’s way better than Noir de Noir. When I finish this bottle, I’ll definitely try the EDP. I recommend it totally; it’s unisex and one of the perfumes that gets the most compliments, with a powerful trail. Luckily, it’s not overhyped here and nobody knows who Mr. Ford is, which is a plus for me. Sublime. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
A women’s perfume that smells like a woman. It’s exquisite, with a powerful opening, though less intense than the EDP; it’s still a powerful, sensual bomb. It makes me feel powerful and delicate, strong and tender all at once. It’s a work of art.
I own both the EDT and the EDP. This EDT feels much darker and more masculine than the other. You can smell more incense and truffle, and less chocolate and orchid. It’s like a men’s version of the legendary Black Orchid, with better projection and longevity. The scent is sharp, dark, and sensual. If the other was unisex, I struggle to see this one on a woman. I’d wear it for formal occasions, not serious ones, because it projects closeness and affection. Scent: 10/10, Sillage: 8/10, Longevity: 10/10 (until you shower), Versatility: 6/10. Gender: Definitely masculine. Occasions: Formal but not serious. Overall: 9/10 (due to low versatility).
I have this version and the EDP. I have to say this EDT is much darker and more masculine than its other version. You feel a lot of incense and truffle, and much less chocolate (you also feel less orchid). In short, it’s a version cut for men from the legendary Black Orchid, with more projection and the same longevity. The scent is sharp and dark, yet sensual. If the other was unisex, I struggle to see this one on a woman. I see it for formal occasions but not serious ones, since it’s a perfume that projects closeness and affection. Scent: 10/10, Sillage: 8/10, Longevity: 10/10 (until you shower), Versatility: 6/10. Gender: Masculine without a doubt. Occasions: Formal but not serious. Overall: 9/10 (due to low versatility).
@Maureen Carmichael: This is marketed as a women’s fragrance but is totally unisex. It’s time to accept that sometimes it’s annoying to see a scent labeled for women when it doesn’t lean feminine at all. Perfumery is unisex, and there’s proof in the market, like this Black Orchid. I’ve been wearing the EDP since 2010; it’s a marvel on men’s skin, earning compliments left and right. This version is perfect too. Forget ‘this is for women’—it’s unisex. That’s why the Parfum version is also categorized as such; it’s been in that category since this powerhouse scent launched.
To me, CK One, 4711, Molecule 01, and Gin Fizz are unisex, just like almost everything with neroli. But Black Orchid is 100% for women; on a man, it looks terrible and depressing. It’s like putting Agua Brava or Fahrenheit on a girl.
