In short: a rich incense that lasts 12 hours.
This is a beast, especially for Autumn and Spring; though a few sprays work fine for Summer too. Very long-lasting.
It sounds familiar, probably because of the citrus and that sporty orange note. The woods kick in immediately—powerful! Even though people say it’s strong, I love it: it’s persistent but not annoying. Perfect for going out with friends for a nightcap.
Oud Tobacco has an amazing opening! It grabs your attention at first, then settles into something soft and creamy. To me, it smells increasingly floral, like a floral fragrance with creamy tobacco touches and a very soft oud, all wrapped in powdery incense. I was hesitant at first, but every time I smell it, I like it more. Longevity and projection are excellent.
Montale has a wide catalog, so finding your perfume is tough, so always test before deciding. What other perfumers envy: fragrances at a luxury level price that turn obsession into loyalty, converting enthusiasts into lifelong followers and winning through word-of-mouth without marketing. Oud Tobacco is an overdose of Pierre’s favorite ingredients: potent with an indelible trail. Those looking for pure oud will be perplexed, as it’s subtle and doesn’t suppress the neighboring notes. At first, it smells like fruity grape gum, then the base incense arrives and the oud lingers. It stays linear with nothing negative. Sweet and unisex, it’s an interesting creation, but they messed up with the name, which suggests something that isn’t the main event. (Courtesy of Sejano 77)
I don’t understand how they dare compare it to Mancera’s Red Tobacco; this has nothing to do with it. It’s a 100% feminine perfume with no tobacco. This is cumin and orange blossom overload. The worst part (for me) is that it lasts more than 12 hours; even after a shower, it’s still present. Don’t buy blind, try it first.
I don’t understand comparing it to Mancera’s Red Tobacco; they have nothing in common. This is 100% feminine, tobacco-free, and full of cumin and orange blossom. The worst part is that it lasts over 12 hours, even after showering. Don’t buy blind; try it before you decide.
I bought it because I’m a masochist; why? It has very little tobacco and even less oud. It smells like Buckthorn, that exotic spice I don’t know well, mixed with fruity spices and a spicy kick. The incense comes out at the end, and Tonka Bean keeps the sweetness going until the bone marrow. Forget Spring/Summer! Wear it 3 hours before indoors because the projection is nuclear. At first, I thought it was very feminine, but at 47, I love it, so it’s unisex. I first tried it in a decant and literally ‘contaminated’ my clothes and office chair; my colleagues still smell it and they liked it. At first, I hated it, but once I wore it outdoors, it sank into every cell of my body. It’s spicy, fruity, intense, and sweet. It doesn’t live up to its name, but it hooks you with that Buckthorn juice.
If you like tobacco, test this on your skin before buying blind; it’s not what you’d expect with oud and tobacco. It’s very sweet and totally unisex, but not youthful: neither for a 40-year-old woman nor a 30-year-old man. Ageless and versatile, ideal for daily wear, formal or informal. Excellent performance: I applied it 40 hours ago and I can still smell it right up against my skin, though it doesn’t project as much as other Montales.
If you like tobacco scents, test it on your skin before buying blind; it probably won’t be what you expect when thinking of oud and tobacco. Although it has tobacco leaf, it smells very sweet. I’d rate it as unisex but not youthful: I can’t imagine a 40-year-old woman or a 30-year-old man wearing this. Aside from age, it’s very versatile, suitable for everyday wear, both formal and informal. The performance is excellent; while it’s not one of the most projecting Montales, the projection is good and the longevity is incredible. I wore it 40 hours ago and I can still smell it right up against my skin.
I bought it being a masochist (;). Does it smell like tobacco? Very little. Oud? Even less. It smells like Mastic, that unknown oriental spice for many, mixed with fruits and a spicy kick that replaces tobacco and oud. The incense hides until the very end, while the tonka bean soaks you in sweetness. Not for spring/summer; wear it 3 hours before indoors due to nuclear projection. At first, I thought it smelled like an older lady’s perfume, but at 47, I’m hooked. It contaminated my clothes and office chair, and my colleagues can still smell it two days later. Spicy, fruity, intense, and sweet. It doesn’t live up to the name, but the Mastic juice is addictive.
Perfume beast mode: citrus, sweet, floral, and woody. The orange blossom takes the lead. Insane performance, outlasting Dior Homme or Mancera Red Tobacco in both longevity and projection. Totally unisex: feminine opening, drying down to masculine. Sweet and spicy, cloying without the Gold Reserve, which activates a bomb. My favorite, 10/10.
On my nose, it’s almost identical to the Joop men’s fragrance, but without the projection or longevity.
The person who sold it to me said it was for ladies, and I agree. From my perspective, it’s hardly unisex. As someone who loves tobacco blended with other notes, I say the tobacco is completely absent. The good part is that citrus mix with rare spices like cumin or sumac, giving it a very unusual touch. I agree with the previous review: it has a slight Joop! Homme vibe (which I never thought was masculine).
On my nose, it smells like Trussardi Uomo: a tonka and leather base with some citrus highlights. Nothing complex and very straightforward, but not what I expected from a Montale.
SPECTACULAR! I love it, love at first sniff. Warning: don’t expect it to smell like tobacco. You’ll only notice a slight touch after hours if you look for it; it doesn’t dominate. It’s a sweet, fruity perfume that smells the same and doesn’t change much. It’s nuclear! When you first step out, it seems like it doesn’t smell much, but a few minutes later… BOOOOOOM! If you spray more than three or four times, it becomes invasive. If you like sweet and fruity scents, I highly recommend it. Absolutely spectacular.
SPECTACULAR! I love it, love at first sniff. But beware: don’t expect it to smell like tobacco. After hours, you might catch a faint note if you look for it, but it doesn’t dominate. It’s sweet and fruity, staying consistent without much change over time. Keep in mind it’s nuclear: low sillage, but in minutes, BOOM! If you use more than three or four sprays, it can be overwhelming. If you like sweet fruity scents, it’s recommended. Spectacular.
A mix of orange and incense; it feels a bit weird to me, but it’s an unusual scent with incredible longevity and projection. It’s not cheap, but I’d definitely pay the 100 euros—it’s one of Montale’s best. Edit after weeks: as it dries down, it becomes purely floral and very feminine. In the end, I gave it to my partner because I can’t wear it myself, but it smells amazing and is 100% feminine.
I bought this fragrance blind based on references, but it was nothing like I expected. It surprised me; I don’t quite like it, but it’s a good olfactory experience. It opens with a scent very similar to furniture polish wax. Something sweet until fruity, similar to the smell of strawberry, quite synthetic. Then it fades and leaves a sweetness similar to smelling an unlit cigar, with a touch of unlit incense too. It’s a loud sweet scent, but for some reason it doesn’t cloy me. The magic is in the dry down, but on skin: frankincense becomes much more pronounced than the tobacco. On dry clothes it’s different; on clothes it retains that same sweetness but with a bitter medicinal smell, like cough syrup in the background, which I don’t like.
I discovered this gem today at a Montale boutique in CDMX. I was looking for Arabians Tonka and it wasn’t available, so I tried this red bottle. What a delicious aroma! Very well-crafted tobacco, with an opening better than Mancera’s Red Tobacco, followed by rich incense drying with the sweetness of Tonka Bean and the brand’s classic oud. This will be my next purchase. Scent 10/10, Longevity 10/10, Sillage 10/10, Price 8/10, Versatility 7/10 (better in cold weather, autumn, winter, not above 77°F/25°C).
Today I discovered this marvel: in a Montale boutique in Mexico City, I looked for Arabians Tonka and there was no stock, so I decided to explore new scents and that red bottle caught my eye. I put it on my wrist and oh surprise! What a delicious aroma, very well-crafted tobacco, the dry down is infinitely better than Mancera’s Red Tobacco, with a rich frankincense dry down with tonka bean sweetness and of course the brand’s classic oud. It will be my next purchase. Scent 10/10, Longevity 10/10, Projection 10/10, Price 8/10, Versatility 7/10 (better in cold: autumn, winter, not above 77°F/25°C).
For those who want to smell like tobacco and have that note predominate, I recommend RED TOBACCO by Mancera.
Simply wonderful and exquisite. I love it… different, powerful… it has an exquisite evolution. Unisex but more inclined towards men. A marvel. Definitely an exquisite niche perfume.
There’s a touch of citrus at the start, then it moves to tonka bean, an intense tonka bean with a chocolatey touch, accompanied by frankincense and a bit of spice from cumin; the oud is felt very in the background along with the tobacco, but frankincense is more prominent. It’s like smelling dulce de leche, smoked caramelized milk, and incense. For me, it’s the Montale version of Red Tobacco, with over 12 hours of longevity and beastly projection.
This perfume is definitely particular. Watch out, it’s not hard to wear. I have a hard time recognizing the declared notes, but personally I don’t find the tobacco note, and the oud might be felt a bit, but it’s not an oud that is invasive or earthy as they sometimes are. It has a bit of citrus in the dry down but it’s absolutely not a citrus perfume per se, nor does it use typical sharp notes like lemon or grapefruit. It’s a playful scent, but not immature. I see it as ideal for someone between 25 and 50 years old, the kind of person who wins everyone over and makes them laugh. Very good performance. 8.5/10.
Citrus, oud, tobacco. The opening is strong, especially the oud, and it’s very masculine. But I love the dry down. Extremely sweet tobacco, like shisha. So delicious yet dark and smoky. I’d use it for elegant dinners or night outings when I’m dressed up a bit. It needs to be balanced with femininity, but it’s different and very addictive.
Oud Tobacco is definitely one of Montale’s best. It comes with a trifecta of citrus, spices, and a tobacco/oud combo that is the core of everything. It starts with a lot of power, but as it evolves, it mellows out to reveal what others have described so well: a sweet, appreciably vanilla tobacco, with a base oud that is practically a caress. During the development, the citrus accord disappears relatively quickly, while spices and resins become accentuated from time to time; I mostly sense cardamom and pepper (cumin is not much, which is a relief), plus something like myrrh. I love its scent and the overall experience. I see it as more masculine and definitely only for cold weather, as it has relatively significant weight and sweetness. It will work better for special occasions or semi-formal to formal wear; it has the presence and complexity for that. As I said at the beginning, it’s one of the most recommended from the brand. If you are a tobacco lover and want something with many nuances and power, this is it. Note: 8.5/10 Tested from the brand’s discovery set.
OT is a sweet and fruity fragrance with a very marked synthetic scent, dominated by tonka bean and some spices. There’s no tobacco or oud here; it’s linear from start to finish, with just a few citrus sparkles. The creamy base doesn’t add much interest. If I smelled it blind, I’d think it’s a typical cheap perfume from some Arab houses. It might work for those who enjoy sweet scents, but it’s disappointing if you expect something that truly reflects its name.
It’s a curious, unconventional fragrance that’s totally functional for almost any day. It has that sweet fruity touch with a spiced base. I like that the citrus is very muted, as citrus smells bad on my skin. It’s unisex, with a slight masculine leaning. You can feel a very pleasant creaminess, and there’s a subtle tobacco note, which I adore. It’s versatile, though not a blind buy. Performance is excellent: 8 hours on skin and clothes.
