In my opinion, this is an inexplicably underrated gem. It has an eighties-nineties spirit but is impeccably crafted: it knows what it wants to be. I stand tall before perfumer Sidonie Lancesseur, who deserves a prosperous future. Upon trying it, I understood the similarity to Miss Dior: a sweet, fruity opening, but in Madame Gres, the leather is key—dry, regal, and adding dense darkness. The leather with patchouli makes the vanilla dark, nothing like youthful adolescence. In Miss Dior, the vanilla is sweeter and more luminous. Madame Gres wins in complexity by a mile. It’s a layered perfume with evolution, less easy to please. The pineapple adds freshness and prevents it from being too cloying. The first hours are potent, an intense cloud. The trail is sweet, dark, with that fresh hint of pineapple and talc. I, who isn’t really into this style, felt overwhelmed in winter, but the dry down is glorious: less sweet, more elegant, earthy, and seductive, with the complexity of leather, sandalwood, and patchouli. I’m surprised by the longevity: 8-10 hours and lasting on clothes for days, at half the price of designer brands. The cap is cheap plastic, but the bottle is clear, clean crystal, Chanel-style, absolutely beautiful. I imagine it would look great on a smoker, mixing smoke with the sweet trail. It’s a good blind buy for anyone who likes sweet, powerful, and personality-driven scents. I don’t see why a man couldn’t wear it, maybe layered. I won’t use it much because it’s too sweet for my taste, but I won’t sell it. I’ll keep it for cravings for something sweet, intense, and unique, with a dry down that steals your breath…
I tried a sample of Loewe’s Aura Floral that I’ve had for a year, and the opening is very similar to the other two… The difference is the intensity; Madame Gres is so powerful! That intense leather and pineapple note. I don’t expect them to dry down similarly, but after 20 minutes, Aura already feels soft on my skin…
I know tastes are subjective, but for me, this isn’t Miss Dior and it’s nowhere near Le Parfum. I bought it blindly out of curiosity, and it was a total bust. The freesia-pineapple combo is cloying, lightyears away from the blood orange in Miss, which, even if it’s a sugary fruit bomb, isn’t this sweet. You have to wait an eternity for that bar-hopping pineapple to fade before you can smell the base, and the hangover takes forever to wear off. To avoid it, I only wear it on clothes, never on skin. The bottle is a disappointment; it looks cheap, nothing like the sober, elegant box. If you like La Vie Est Belle, you’ll love it; if you respect Madame Grès’ work, you probably won’t, because they have nothing to do with each other. I’m crying. Moral of the story: don’t buy blindly just because they claim it’s a clone.
Taste is subjective, but for me, this isn’t a Miss Dior or Le Parfum clone. I bought it blindly out of curiosity, and the result: a failure. The freesia and pineapple combo gives it a cloying vibe that sets it apart from Miss Dior, which feels like a childish fruit-chili, but this is way sweeter. You have to wait a long time for the pineapple to fade so the base can show up, and the hangover lasts too long. To avoid such strong notes, I only spray it on clothes, never on skin. The bottle is a disaster; it looks like a knock-off, nothing like the sober, elegant box. If you like La Vie Est Belle, you’ll like this. If you respect Madame Grès’s work, you probably won’t, because it has nothing to do with it. Heartbreaking. Moral of the story: don’t buy blindly just because they say it’s a clone.
I own three Gres perfumes, all with great projection and longevity, sharing that vintage touch that might scare off those looking for modern, light florals. Madame Gres is a powerhouse—serious, formal, sweet, woody, and very powdery, with a heavy sillage for special occasions. I get that it’s going for a Miss Dior vibe, but I don’t see much similarity; it reminds me more of CK Euphoria. I love it so much; it’s my favorite from the house.

My second Gres: for someone who hates vintage, this is a love story. It has that old-school touch but isn’t cloying, like a Chanel No. 5. At first, the pineapple takes over, and as it dries down, it becomes floral and woody. Undoubtedly elegant for dinners or formal events. Delicious, and best of all, the price. It’s a gem; the undervalued Gres perfumes are hidden treasures…
My second Gres: for someone who hates vintage, this is a love. It has that old-school touch without being cloying, like a Chanel No. 5. It’s a gem; undervalued Gres perfumes are hidden treasures.
I’d define this fragrance as velvety, warm, and elegant. It’s a classic, cozy aroma, perfect for personal enjoyment because it lasts long but doesn’t have much projection. I think it’s ideal when you want to feel good without drawing attention.
This is the fifth Gres I’ve tried, and none have won me over. The bottle screams ‘mature woman’ and smells like a knock-off. It’s a floral-woody scent, a bit heavy for hot weather and evaporates quickly on the skin, though it lingers on clothes. It’s not unpleasant, but it’s not my style; it’s very generic and I wouldn’t repurchase. So, indifferent. Plus, the spray nozzle gets clogged over time, making it a hassle to apply.
