Casablanca77 let me tell you you’ve motivated me and I’ve ordered a bottle. I’ll share my impressions…

Monsieur Chant has a chypre that is a masterpiece Aramis born in the 60s to tear down walls. Cabochard 2019 EDP is a chypre that doesn’t need trends to shine. A legitimate daughter of Aramis Cabochard dresses more subtly crystal-clear and sensual inheriting that Y chromosome from the father and some X flowers from the mother but less so. It is decidedly nocturnal bold strong and elegant. For me a chypre is an ode to nature but here there is an explosion as if everything is about to end. A perfume that will be loved by every woman with strength and worth and by all men who wish to smell like a new version of Aramis. A work of art that must be cared for and flaunted.

Cabochard 2019 is a chypre executed to the hilt perfect for those who appreciate them or want to flirt with them. I have a sample of this 2019 and right off the bat it’s rougher than the reformulated EDT (the elongated version is more wooded and damp). What I like most is the vintage extract; on my skin it’s the crispiest greenest and rawest. This 2019 has impressed me: I thought I’d find something soft but the opening is rough like opening a bag and finding an old leather wallet with traces of tobacco smoke. It knocked me out. I admit that on my skin the reformulated EDT smells green and damp with little leather or tobacco. It carries quite a bit of sandalwood a dusty sandalwood that gives it a rougher touch. It stays on me like a perfume from a man of that era with green tones and a cigarette smell. It fascinates me to consider it for these times. Either my nose is off or this scent doesn’t play games; it’s punchy. I love the risk I feel it’s riskier than the current one. Although I’d like the reformulated for autumn it’s damp and romantic. This one is drier darker and less gentle. Try it feel it. I’m intrigued to see how it evolves on others. The trail is light but I’m sure it will stick. It’s a perfume that makes me feel like a girl from the 20s smoking and staring into eyes without blinking. Edit: repeating sprays the green note intensifies. This EDP lasts longer than the current EDT worth it.

Cabochard 2019 is a 100% chypre, perfect for genre lovers or first-timers. I have a sample, and right out of the gate, it’s rougher than the reformulated EDT in the elongated bottle (that one smells more like a damp forest). What I love most is the vintage extract; on my skin, it’s the crunchiest, greenest, and rawest of all. This 2019 version caught me off guard: I expected something soft and discreet, but nope. The opening is rough, like opening a bag and finding an old, worn leather wallet with lingering tobacco scent. It knocked me out. On my skin, the reformulated EDT smells green and woody, something unusual for me since I usually don’t pick up on leather or much tobacco, just moss and wet green. It carries quite a bit of sandalwood, a dusty sandalwood that adds more grit. It reminds me of a man’s perfume from the era: green tones but with the smell of his cigarette smoke. I’m fascinated that it still works today. Either it’s my nose or this scent doesn’t play games; it’s bold. I love the risk, and I feel this is riskier than the current version. Although I’d like the reformulated one for autumn, it’s wet-green and romantic; this one is drier, darker, and less gentle. Try it, feel it—my skin with Cabochard is very volatile. I’m intrigued to see how it evolves on others. Sillage is light (with a sample, I can’t judge well), but it surely projects. It makes me feel like a girl from the 1920s, smoking with a filter and staring without blinking. Edit: when I reapply sprays to the same spot, the green notes intensify, curious how it shifts. The new EDP lasts many more hours than the current EDT, well worth it.

I didn’t know the Cabochard vintage but I tried this 2019 version and found it fascinating. It has excellent longevity and is a counter-trend to current tastes which tend to be sweet and cloying. I think it will make it into my collection. By the way it’s totally unisex; a man would wear it splendidly.

An unmatched love it provoked me. Cabochard doesn’t resemble anything I’ve known except perhaps my man. And like him he won me over at first sight. It’s a scent that captivated me through the association with him: his winter jacket smelling of smoke and tobacco. I fell in love that season. His embrace wrapped in that olfactory complexity was my world. And in a way it still is even though the years didn’t last long after our wedding. I married him and lost him but I never lost the memory of the home his arms were. How curious how the mind and nose fuse when a scent triggers so many memories. Not of memory but of time and everything left within it. Cabochard doesn’t smell like him but like the life I dreamed in his arms. Wearing it completes my perception of myself of the woman I was. Cabochard doesn’t give it back to me but it returns me to him and I love it. It’s a duty to own it and know you are whole.

It cost me more than expected to find this perfume. In my opinion it’s very harsh. The first time I smelled it it transported me to a hair salon because of that hairspray scent. I didn’t detect any leather or wood anywhere. I’m thinking of gifting it; definitely not for me. I wouldn’t recommend buying it blindly.

I waited way too long for this perfume. For my taste, it’s way too scandalous. The first time I smelled it, it transported me to a hair salon because of that hairspray scent. I didn’t detect any leather or wood whatsoever. I’m definitely going to gift this, it’s not for me. I wouldn’t recommend buying it blind.

  • I an incurable lover of dense sugary syrups declare myself captivated by this chypre paradise. Cabochard is a modernized reinterpretation of a masterfully executed classic. Completely unisex I feel great wearing it but I imagine it extremely sensual on a man’s skin. In fact when I smell it on my skin I secretly desire to be seduced by a man wearing it. However on a woman it inspires character strength and nothing of sensuality. I love wearing it on rainy days. It smells like a walk in the countryside with a raincoat and waxed hat like moss and damp ground like leather boots like an autumn or winter evening. It has a soapy base that reminds me of shaving foam. It has moderate-to-high projection and 8-9 hours of longevity. Note this isn’t for a safe blind buy and I think it could have many detractors. It has nothing in common with current perfumes; it doesn’t exude a drop of sweetness. But if you like its scent you’ll have a perfume with tremendous personality. Scent 7/10 Longevity 8.5/10 Sillage 8/10 Value/Price 9/10 Versatility 5.5/10 Packaging 8.5/10. Would I buy again? Probably.

  • I think there is a clear intention in Cabochard EDP 2019 to feminize the last version of the EDT and pay homage to mid-century classics. I dare to say it tries to channel the spirit of Miss Dior from 1947. Even the bottle has reasonable similarities (white bow tie knot in Miss Dior black in Cabochard). If it’s done with respect and good work any variation is respectable. In the case of Cabochard EDP 2019 I celebrate it because I have the impression that Miguel Matos also wanted to pay homage to Bernard Chant. The simplification of the olfactory pyramid makes it more approachable without losing the essence or character. At first I suffered a mirage with the missing tobacco. The effects are different: a more cheerful opening a flawless aldehydic classicism a luxurious floral air of mature rose and ylang-ylang and oriental earthiness that evokes Madame Grès’s travels to India. The leather remains in its place conducting firmly. In its final stages it leaves a velvety moss reminiscent of Aromatics Elixir. Cabochard EDP 2019 isn’t pretty; it’s the next thing. It’s the beautiful and distinguished sister of the ambiguous and rascal Cabochard. The first takes tea in Parisian salons the second downs shots of chartreuse with a cigar in a dark tavern. I want both but for this 2019 version I feel genuine devotion. The warning stands: the character may differ but the bravery is the same.

  • I think the Cabochard EDP 2019 clearly intends to feminize the last EDT version and pay homage to classic mid-century Chypres. I’d dare say it tries to channel the spirit of Miss Dior from 1947. Even the bottle has reasonable similarities (the white knot of the original and the black of this one). If it’s made from admiration and respect, any variation is respectable; I celebrate the Cabochard EDP 2019 doubly, since I know it’s by Miguel Matos and that Lalique now markets Grès fragrances. The simplification of its olfactive pyramid makes it more accessible without losing the original essence or its character, which is a merit. At first, I had a mirage of missing tobacco, but the effects are different: a cheerful opening, a flawless aldehydic classicism, a luxurious floral air of mature rose and ylang-ylang, and orientalizing earthiness that evokes Madame Grès’s travels to India. The leather remains, marking the baton firmly. In its final moments, it leaves an indescribably beautiful powdery moss that reminds me of Aromatics Elixir. The first sips tea in Parisian salons, and the second downs shots of Chartreuse with a cigarette in a dark alley tavern. I want both, but for this 2019 version, I feel true devotion. The warning stands: the character may differ, but the bravery is the same.

  • Super sophisticated, toasted green earth. It smells atemporal and deeply mossy. It’s a dark, root-filled Chypre that evolves from the first second thanks to sandalwood, earth, and leather. Unique and original. Imagine a mossy landscape soaked after a summer storm, at night.

  • Superbly sophisticated toasted green earth. It smells timeless and deeply mossy. A dark root-filled chypre that evolves from the very first second via sandalwood earth and leather. Unique and original. A mossy landscape soaked after a summer storm at night.

  • It’s a wonder. On my skin, it highlights a soft leather wrapped in something green with floral notes. If I were to describe it with a landscape, it would be an autumn or winter afternoon, or a fresh spring day after a shower; it doesn’t smell like wet earth, but rather a dark, fresh, floral place with raindrops. I’ve had it for over a year, and its scent, longevity, and projection are getting better and better. I’d definitely buy it again.

  • Beautiful perfume, beautiful, beautiful. Value for money 10/10. In my experience, nothing to envy from Chanel or Sisley, saving for olfactory differences. It’s a delicious and imposing Chypre and very current; this new version is cleaner than the classic EDT. It opens with a galbanic, fresh aldehyde vibe, like Dior’s Dune. Then it turns into a creamy, luxurious herbal soap for a few hours, giving way to an ylang-ylang that grows and maintains that powdery creaminess until almost the end. At five hours, the leather and a divine, natural, slightly masculine oakmoss show up. It’s good, clean, seductive, unisex, elegant, and at an almost ridiculous price. 100% recommended.

  • I love the Grès house; I was missing this Cabochard, but for me, it has nothing sensual about it; I only notice the leather and very heavy notes. Too aldehydic; I bought it based on reviews here, but it disappointed me, even after hours, it smells dated. I don’t detect any floral notes, making me think I bought it expired or in bad condition. Anyway, it’s for experts.

Too alcoholic and it fades quickly. I wonder what it used to be like; surely it was magnificent, but nowadays it’s just average. The opening reminds me of Aramis, I suppose it’s the sage, very present, and also galbanum. It’s spicy and very masculine, even though it’s “officially” for her. But oh, oh, oh, it’s metallic, a bit rough, and the performance is disappointing. Skip it.

  • It arrived a month ago, my sister sprayed it twice, and my mom ran over. Joy! We’d finally restocked her favorite fragrance. Then she took off her shirt, and the next day the cat jumped on it and smelled like Cabochard, so much. What a wonder. Maybe the opening is a bit more balsamic than the old version, but it keeps the DNA intact. It’s strange we don’t have the 1959 version; I don’t remember huge differences. The power and longevity deserve the low price of the bottle. It’s elegance, warmth, an atemporal olfactory symphony, and very head-turning. We stole it from mom.

I’ve been testing it for a week and I’m still blown away. They painted it as a beast and a disruptor, but for me, it’s super wearable and unisex. The aldehydes are well-tamed and give life to the dry down. On my skin, it’s warm yet fresh thanks to the florals. To me, it sits halfway between Aramis and Chanel No. 5 Eau Premiere. It offers way more than its price tag, from the bottle to the scent. For 365 days, if you want elegance and mystery, this is the one.

  • Roidesglaces

It’s a bombshell, very Chypre style, though on me it smells just like Cacharel’s Anais Anais.
