Legend by Montblanc is an aromatic fougère fragrance for men. Launched in 2011, this composition was created by Olivier Pescheux and Celine Perdriel. The top notes unfold with lavender, pineapple, bergamot, and citron (lemon balm, sweet verbena); the heart reveals red apple, dried fruits, oakmoss, geranium, coumarin, and rose; while the base notes close the structure with tonka bean and sandalwood.

Undoubtedly, it’s a quintessential signature fragrance. Montblanc released in 2011 an aroma that wasn’t blue like the ones starting to appear, but herbal with metallic traces and a pleasant fruity base, in the style of Egoïste Platinum, but clearly inspired by Fierce by Abercrombie & Fitch, a success for its simple, pleasant, masculine, and all-occasion scent. Montblanc didn’t miss the opportunity and almost a decade after Fierce surprised us with Legend, and it’s exactly as I defined: pleasant, elegant, casual, very wearable, and enjoyable. The problem is that its popularity caused almost every clothing store to launch their own perfumes based on that DNA, so it’s a familiar and not exclusive scent. Legend had good performance that has decreased over time; it lasts quite a while for me, although the initial trail is high and then it stays close to the skin. Despite being 20 years old, it still surprises how current it is. A niche house like Parfums de Marly created Percival years ago with this aroma, nuances, and better quality, same DNA, but it costs much more. An advantage of Montblanc in Spain is the accessible price. They’ve released several flankers and alternatives, but for me, the original is the only one, though it’s not a bad idea to try them because tastes are personal. Nice scent in a bottle with a design inspired by the brand’s feather. Versatile, pleasant, moderate performance, and unpretentious, ideal for not complicating yourself with what to wear on a daily basis, one of those you reach for easily when you don’t know what to bring, but it won’t surprise anyone because you’ll smell like some clothing stores.

  • hernanegl

Versatile fragrance for any occasion. It has a scent that people like (generates compliments), highlighting the lavender. Personally, I use it for the office. As negative aspects, I point out the longevity (moderate-low) and the 1-2 hour projection; after that, it’s only noticeable as skin scent.

  • It’s the fragrance I use most for daily wear and the office. Legend smells very synthetic to me, and I can’t quite decipher its notes. What I do know is that it’s one of the best scents in the ‘clean smell’ category I know. At some point in my olfactory memory, I close my eyes, smell Legend, and I’m transported to a men’s locker room, everyone coming back from the shower with towels covering their private parts and starting to perfume themselves. It smells like expensive and cheap soaps, shampoos, and deodorants combined. Compared to other fragrances, it’s like a Coach for Men but less fruity, a Tous Intense Man but less floral, Legend Red but less fruity. I don’t know Fierce or Percival. The biggest downside is longevity. Honestly, I only seek extreme longevity for night fragrances: dates, clubs, parties, when I know I’ll be out for +6 hours without a refresher. But for daily wear, I have a 5ml atomizer I fill with Legend. I spray 6/7 times in the morning, 3/4 after lunch, and I feel like I leave a trail all day without bothering or invading. My eyes hurt when I read that people over-apply +12 sprays with this type of ‘low performance’ perfume to last all day. I can’t imagine how uncomfortable and projecting the first hours must be… I have 100ml and as soon as I see a deal here in Argentina, I’ll grab the 200ml, or I’ll wait for someone to travel abroad to see if there are better prices. Solid 6/10.

  • I love it! Smells clean, conveys confidence, and is super versatile. It’s sure to attract compliments. The fruity lavender opening is spectacular, but it doesn’t disappoint after an hour when the floral notes settle over the tonka bean. I gifted it to my boyfriend as soon as I smelled it in a sample, but I’ve already stolen it back several times. A perfect wardrobe staple with a touch of unisex charm.

If you’re looking for a unique aroma, this isn’t for you. But if you want value for money and a scent that exudes cleanliness and freshness, Montblanc Legend is definitely for you. You can buy it blind and you’ll like it. Who doesn’t like to smell clean? Average longevity and projection: 5-6 hours on my skin and 2 hours projecting decently.

  • emporioblanko

Just received it, very good: clean, fresh, and fruity scent. The best parts are the lavender, apple, and nut notes; in the dry down, there’s a touch of tonka bean, though nothing really stands out above the rest, maybe a very faint pineapple. It smells incredibly rich and clean. How to use it: summer and spring, when it shines; in autumn or winter, it’s barely noticeable, it’s soft and non-invasive. In the heat, it really pops. In those seasons, I think it’s a waste. Moderate trail, average longevity (speaking from wrist sprays). I bought the 200ml and didn’t make a mistake, it’s an EDT. To make it last, wear it on hot days, that’s when you enjoy it most. UPDATE: After using it more, you need more than 15 sprays for it to be noticeable. It doesn’t have great projection, it’s not heavy, it doesn’t bother anyone, and whoever smells it will love it. It smells delicious. With more than 15 sprays, it projects for about 2 hours. I recommend it a lot, but keep in mind it’s for hot days and you need to spray generously without fear. I liked it a lot; my only downside is that it would project more if you sprayed more, lasts about 2 hours max, and then it’s just skin scent. It’s a pain that it doesn’t last; it’s one of my favorites and works for almost everything. Despite liking it, I won’t repurchase due to its poor longevity and weak trail; it reminds me of CK fragrances that smell great but don’t last as long as Farsa Palancaruinas in Europe. The price seems excessive for what it offers. Conclusion: it smells very good, it’s for daily wear or summer, but you need to spray more than 15 times to last at least 2 hours. And know that its price is excessive for what it gives. If you want to feel comfortable, smell clean, rich, soft, and please everyone, you’ll love it, but I repeat: spray generously.

  • Jaime Ramírez

There’s an Esika called Desafiant that’s almost identical to this Montblanc Legend for 20€ and lasts about 6 hours on skin. The dry down is 90% the same. It’s the one by Sebastian Yatra. 💣💥

  • One of my favorites. I usually try to avoid ultra-mass-market perfumes, but this one is unbeatable; in the end, the nose rules. I wouldn’t call it fresh, but it smells clean. I love it for urban or enclosed environments.

  • Fresh, clean, and super versatile: perfect for the office, sports, or school. It’s that kind of fragrance that doesn’t bother anyone and goes well with everything.

  • ElArteDelAroma

Montblanc Legend (2011), by Olivier Pescheux and Celine Perdriel: If you’re looking for something cheap, versatile for work or school, that smells clean and isn’t annoying, this is your pick. It’s not a new scent; it emulates Fierce by Abercrombie & Fitch but for much less. It doesn’t last long, but for the price, it’s worth reapplying.

  • Montblanc Legend EDT is an all-rounder. In Mexico, I’ll use it all year round due to the climate. It lasts between 6 and 7 hours with a moderate trail, but if you apply it on clothes, it’s solved. The DNA of A&F Fierce is tremendous; with better quality, I imagine it much better (Percival). At an approximate price of $45 in Mexico, the only one I know that does the job better is Versace Pour Homme, but curiously, it’s very mass-produced. It’s an interesting point: there’s a perception that Legend is mass-produced, but I think influencers helped de-massify it. I mean that Nautica Voyage, Versace Pour Homme, and Club de Nuit Intense (Aventus dupes) ate up the market it was targeting. That doesn’t mean no one uses it, but I think you get my point. Longevity: 6 hours. Price: excellent, I paid $55 for 200 ml. Climate: preferable above 15°C but works for everything. Occasion: whatever you come up with. Age: between 20 and 30, I can’t think of a 15-year-old or a 40-year-old using it. Anyway, if someone asks for a recommendation for a perfume that serves for everything and costs less than $50, tell them Versace Pour Homme and you take Legend.

  • Andresguerrero

A versatile, all-terrain fragrance. It’s one of the most ‘show-off’ scents in my collection, both for me and for others. It’s that smell that makes you imagine a well-dressed, manly, clean man, that image of a man all put together. At first, it might smell like ‘sir,’ but then you realize it’s not; it’s a scent very leaning towards lavender, but not too sweet, more like a lavender with a ‘metallic’ touch, very rare to explain. The opening has a fresh touch like bergamot, not a clone, and in the dry-down, you feel a fruity-metallic touch, different from what a man would normally wear. It works wonderfully in any climate, both for heat and night outings; I see it as more versatile than many blue fragrances like Sauvage or Dylan Blue; it’s a 4×4. It reminds me of the 2000s when all teenagers had Abercrombie Fierce, so if you’re from the 90s like me, it will sound familiar and you’ll like it. Scent: 8.5/10. Longevity: 8/10 (6-7 hours easily). Projection: 7/10 (2 hours good). Price: 9/10.

  • A woody aroma combined with fruity sparkles that turns the fragrance into a source of compliments from the female sector. It’s sophisticated, virile, and radiates infinite cleanliness and transparency. It’s sensitive and characterful, and although they seem contradictory, Legend shows they can go hand in hand. Based on its notes, it’s designed for day and night, timeless, with excellent fixation and durability, staying intact on the skin for long hours.

  • One of my favorite perfumes. It’s versatile, mostly fruity but not too sweet thanks to the lavender and wood, making it useful for various occasions. It’s true that it’s mostly youthful, but it contains more serious ingredients; if the perfume had an age, it would be about 25. Extremely masculine, sweet in the base, and fresh on the opening. Its only weakness is the short longevity.

  • For those who like this perfume, I recommend the new YSL, ‘MYSLF’. Although it has extra notes that differentiate it from Legend, it’s the one that comes closest. Most similar scents, like Spirit, Eau de Parfum, or Percival (which, despite being the same composition, differ in proportions), fail to capture that sweet freshness that Montblanc Legend has and that I love; they all seem drier to me compared to that. ‘MYSLF’ does have that note, plus it solves Montblanc’s problems: it lasts longer and stays pleasant its whole life (Montblanc’s dry-down becomes too residual). It has extra notes reminiscent of Amouage Reflection Man that complement it very well, differentiating it but not enough to make it something else; it’s really balanced. I left that fragrance profile because Montblanc didn’t meet the minimums and the others lacked that magic touch, but YSL has allowed me to enjoy it in all its glory. I’ve used half a bottle and it’s a delight, plus it lasts a long time on clothes. If you’re a Montblanc Legend lover, you’ll definitely be interested. Cheers! PS: Since I know you’re looking for comparisons with Percival, I’ve done the research, and the closest is Percival, which leans more toward Legend Eau de Parfum (the black bottle one).

  • Undoubtedly one of my favorite fragrances. Delicious fruity aroma with a moderate trail and it’s not invasive. I enjoy wearing it at any time because I consider it very versatile, although its longevity is low, around 5 hours at most, so I have to reapply to keep the scent going.

  • I really like it. Fruity aroma, you can smell the moss, very clean, maybe because of the lavender. It’s versatile; I’ve used it at the office and for casual outings. It doesn’t have much projection, but it maintains a very pleasant personal bubble; people have told me it smells great. Longevity in my case reaches five hours.

  • People have only asked me what perfume I was wearing this time and another. My girlfriend absolutely loved it.

  • Disappointing. Between 2014 and 2017, it was my signature scent; I always wore it and loved it. I’ve tried other Mont Blanc fragrances like Emblem and Exceptionnel, but I remembered Legend having more longevity and projection. I’m not sure if the quality dropped or my nose changed, but now I barely smell it at all. At first, it smells like alcohol and something citrusy, then it disappears in 30 minutes. I sprayed it 7 times, twice a day, and nothing. It stays close to the skin with an earthy, sweet leather note that lasts 4-5 hours. Perfect for any occasion because it barely smells at all 🤣. Total letdown for me.

  • Mr. Baskerville

Sure to be a hit with someone. It’s a safe bet, nothing risky, but it smells great and does its job: cleanliness, order, and that personal well-being feeling. Not for clubs or competing on longevity, but I don’t think that was ever the intention. It’s perfect for work, uni, the movies, a coffee shop, or a casual date. It’s versatile, modern, and a great price. Honestly, Legend only shares the name with the brand; the base notes are very typical. You won’t be disgusted, but you also won’t be surprised. Longevity and projection are just average, but a reapplication at 5 or 6 hours fixes everything. If you’re looking for something with more ‘something’ at the same price, you’ll have to look harder, but if you don’t want to complicate your life, Legend is a solid option.

  • I bought the 30ml bottle. Wearing this cologne is the same as wearing nothing: neither freshly applied nor even after bathing in it. It’s a rip-off, it’s insane, it smells like nothing. I don’t even know what it smells like, honestly. The same thing happened to me in the store; I thought it was because I had smelled others before before. Basically, I threw my money away.

  • VicenteAg

Ideal for large offices or very formal settings; don’t use it anywhere else. It’s an extremely serious and clean scent that can make you smell older due to the lasting lavender, plus nuts, woods, and florals that enhance that vibe. It’s only for that. It can even be quite annoying if not worn in a spacious office. If you want something pleasant and versatile for daily wear, go with Legend in the Eau de Toilette version.

  • Very clean and easy to wear, but the downside is that many deodorants nowadays smell similar. However, a great alternative is Galloway by Marly, although the price has gone through the roof.

  • Simple yet serious at the same time; the opening is citrusy and sweet, but the drydown features woods and florals that make it serious and spicy. I see it as a daily office scent or for simple outings. Girls don’t seem to like it as much as other Montblanc fragrances, but it’s cheap and smells good, you should give it a try.

  • Ernesto Marin

They say it’s fresh as summer, but here in Sinaloa it suffocates me; I used to wear it daily and didn’t like it, probably due to the heat. For me, it’s perfect in fall/winter, especially in the evening, easy to wear and without any fuss.

  • It’s rich and normal, works well for the office, but the performance is poor: it projects no more than 30cm in 10 minutes and then stays skin-scent only.

  • Projection is moderate to poor, the scent doesn’t stand out, and it smells like Old Spice deodorant. Not worth the price.

  • It’s a true 4×4: if it were more durable, it would be legendary, but in the end, it’s just right and doesn’t disappoint.

  • eduavilag

Smells good but doesn’t last at all, no projection, low sillage… I bought it several years ago and since then I’ve never bought another Montblanc fragrance (except Starwalker which I love the scent). The truth is, I don’t recommend buying it.

  • diego2020

I don’t smell it as fruity as they claim. It’s more simplistic and has an 80s vibe, very aromatic. I’m not saying it’s bad, but it gave me a ‘meh.’ That said, in Argentina there is at least one deodorant (I don’t remember which one) that has exactly the same scent.

  • Reynaldo Linan

Incredible scent, good projection, but bad longevity. Reminds me of Abercrombie Fierce. Well, if you’re looking for a gym or workout perfume, but nothing more.

  • Wlad Molina

A classic staple, what a delightful fragrance! Legend by Montblanc is one of those gems where, from the first spray, you know it won’t fail. For me, it gives a vibe similar to Boss Bottled and even 9am Dive, but without being an outright copy. And although I don’t know Fierce, I know many make the comparison, so you get the idea. What I like most is that it embodies the word ‘versatility.’ Literally, it works for any age, event, or season. You can wear it at the office, on a casual date, during the day or night, and you’ll always look good. What’s truly appreciated is that it’s not one of those sweet fragrances that get tiring or feel hostile. It has a perfect balance. In its dry down, the star is a very well-executed trio: the apple, which gives it a fruity and juicy touch; the lavender, which adds cleanliness and aroma; and a little bit of geranium green that makes it fresh and vibrant. It’s a clean, fruity mix with an elegant touch that makes it irresistible. Legend completely exceeded my expectations. It’s a fragrance that gives you confidence, easy to wear, and best of all, it smells incredible. My score: 9/10, because it met everything I expected and more.

  • THE GOOD: An ultra-clean, ultra-masculine scent. Mega-versatile perfume: from the gym to the office. A scent that 100% of men will like. THE BAD: Poor performance. Terrible longevity and sillage. The scent can result in being boring and flat. A smell seen a thousand times in gels, shampoos, aftershaves, and men’s deodorants. Would I recommend it? No. Its price doesn’t justify the low performance, plus it’s a scent you’ve probably already smelled. P.S.: Want to know what this perfume smells like for a fraction of the price? Buy the Bod Man Black body spray for men. The black one smells exactly the same. They usually sell it in a pack of 4.

  • I was looking for a fragrance for the office. The sales associate recommended it and I loved it: exquisite, sweet but fruity, not cloying, with a hint of citrus, harmonious, and non-invasive. Maybe it’s not groundbreaking, but it’s charming. I bought it without hesitation (it seemed expensive, around $150 in Argentina). I sprayed it on my skin. The sales associate said I could exchange it if I didn’t like it. After half an hour I could barely smell it, and by 45 minutes it had completely vanished. Luckily, I was close by and exchanged it. In my opinion, it’s not worth that money, but for those who like the scent, it’s a decent proposal.

  • It’s sweet, clean, and rich, but it doesn’t last at all. After 10 minutes it’s hard to smell, and by half an hour it’s gone. I paid $60 for 50ml and feel ripped off. I’ve had it for a week; I hope it lasts longer if I leave it for months, but I don’t think it will change. The scent is rich, clean, and super generic. It’s not for use above 30 degrees Celsius because it can get heavy. I can only talk about its opening because that’s the only thing it has; the rest doesn’t exist.

  • Legend by Montblanc holds a privileged spot in my collection. It balances fruity, sweet, and aromatic notes perfectly. Upon application, the lavender and citrus provide immediate freshness, while the woody and vanilla base offers a warm, cozy feel. It has herbal nuances and a fresh spicy touch that feels modern and pleasant. Sentimental value: Honestly, I like it a lot, but mostly because it holds special meaning: it was the first perfume my wife ever gave me. I have a fondness for it that no other fragrance matches. Usage and versatility: For a long time, it was my go-to. I used it for everything: dates, the office… The best part is that, despite being sweet, it’s not cloying; it’s light yet full of character. Personal experience: I loved it so much I finished the bottle quickly. It’s one of those scents that invite you to reapply again and again without getting tired. In summary, it’s an all-terrain fragrance, masculine, with a perfect sweet touch that will always bring back good memories.

  • yss.fragancias

I don’t have many words, but this is my signature scent and I’ve never reviewed something like this before. It’s the ‘quintessential’ example of that unique DNA, right alongside Fierce and Percival. I can’t describe it well enough, so go to a perfumery and try it (it’s everywhere). It’s gotten me tons of compliments and remains my all-time favorite. It has that 2000s vibe, coming from Fierce, giving it a very masculine appeal. I don’t buy perfumes to attract women, but I guarantee most people love it. Maybe because they used it in stores as room spray and it’s a familiar scent, or because of that lustful era of the 2000s. Either way, it’s impressive. I haven’t smelled the original Fierce (they say it’s not worth it now), but they say Legend is sweeter and I prefer it. As for longevity, it’s not crazy, but it’s more than enough. It lasts on me and people notice, and that’s all that matters. Curiously: I have a bottle I used heavily and then stored for two years. It’s ‘over-macerated,’ smells dustier, and tastes better with time, plus it lasts and projects more. In short, I’ve gone on a bit of a tangent, but any extension isn’t enough because this is a masterpiece, not just of this scent, but of the DNA it represents. Cheers.
