I compare it to Lady Vengeance by Juliette Has a Gun, but the version she would have wanted to be. Superior quality, extreme longevity, and an unstoppable sillage. It only resembles the original through that ‘femme fatale’ image. It’s the sexiest, most addictive rose I’ve ever encountered. Dark but not dense; rather sensual, balanced, warm, and full of character. It’s not rigid; it’s a woman who has her life together, doesn’t stay home, has true love but knows she’s desired, and draws attention without letting just anyone have her. Monegal said it’s a rose that wears leather, rides a motorcycle, and makes people turn to look. Instant love at first sniff.
Hazy Rose kicks off with a very sharp saffron and ginger opening. Within seconds, a dark, super potent red rose takes over, pushing the other notes to the background. It’s a realistic, majestic rose that leaves a trail wherever it goes. It’s not for the fairytale princess; it’s for Maleficent: big personality and pure majesty. Bye-bye good girl, the bad girl is in style. Congratulations to master Ramón Monegal on this masterpiece. Lasts about 10 hours with a strong sillage. Totally unisex, perfect for elegant occasions or important meetings where you want to show you have no weakness. Ideal for autumn-winter.
Very disappointed with this Hazy Rose by Monegal. It promised to be the best, and I’m a huge fan of dark, gothic roses. What I smelled has nothing to do with that. The opening with ginger and saffron is way too sharp, followed by a very linear musky rose that doesn’t convince me. It smells nothing dark or evocative; it’s more feminine than unisex. Monegal has great works like Alhambra Oud, but sometimes he falls short and reuses bases. There are roses he gets so right: Garanat, African Rose, Ardent, Oud Satin Mood Extrait, PHI…
