Descripción

Gentleman Cologne by Givenchy is an aromatic woody fragrance for men. Launched in 2019, this composition was created by Nathalie Lorson and Olivier Cresp. The top notes unfold with bergamot, lemon, and petit grain; the heart reveals iris, vetiver, and rosemary; while the base notes settle on musk and ambroxan.

‘Normal’ smell. Better off buying those lemon colognes you used to splash on after a shower. They smell the same.

  • svazquez7

Simple, versatile, youthful, neat, and elegant. Not mass-produced or generic. A proposal from Givenchy for summer at a lower price with moderate performance, just slightly more durable than Dior or Versace for this season.

  • Very_gentleman

It’s to complete the summer week’s lineup: fresh, smells excellent, and very elegant. The iris and ambroxan give that sunny day touch. Typical summer longevity: 2 hours; in the office (indoors) it’s noticeable up to a max of 3 hours. I like it a lot, need to reapply 2 or 3 times a day. It’s consumed quickly but compliments come just as fast; for personal enjoyment, it’s addictive. It costs $60 here in Mexico, I recommend taking advantage of the $40 deal, I think that’s the fair price given its low performance.

  • The elegance of a summer perfume where class, complexity, and simplicity stand out. Perfect combination of citrus, iris, and musk. Scent: 9, Projection: 8, Longevity: 8, Projection: 7, Versatility: 8. Total: 8 (Excellent). It will become my signature fragrance for summer 2021. Blind buy recommended.

  • Different aroma and, in my opinion, blind buying is risky. It starts with a pleasant carrot scent, the reason for its uniqueness (and why blind buying is risky). Over time, the iris gains importance, a dusty note that adorns the carrot with woods. The 50ml version is a good price, lasts about 8 hours on skin, and projects moderately. Suitable for all ages and situations, from casual to a wedding in a park or green area during the day. Its potential unfolds in spring, but it also works in summer. If I have to choose between this and its sibling Gentleman EDT, I’ll stick with the sibling; I prefer the pear and pineapple notes over the carrot here, although this perfume will grow on you over time. 8/10.

  • Beautiful fragrance for everyday wear. In my case, it lasts 6 hours on skin and stands out for being citrusy; the iris gives it power. I would buy again without a doubt when this bottle runs out.

  • Delicious, fresh, and elegant aroma, I loved it. Perfect for summer and indoor places, lasts 5-6 hours on clothes, a bit longer.

  • saul peñaloza

I love it; it smells like a mix of bergamot, intense lemon, and ground earth, just like the powder I used to eat as a kid.

  • Isaac Blanco

Soft, fresh, and delicious cologne, lasts about half a day (5-6 hours) with low projection. Ideal for indoors and semi-formal outfits: clean but classy. Opens with a very acidic lime (like juice), I don’t notice the bergamot much, but I do smell the carrot mentioned on the tester. Then it settles into a floral musk (iris) and a dry citrus base. I’ll only wear it with a white shirt; I don’t feel comfortable in jeans, though I could. I paid $700, so reapplying isn’t a bother. Great cologne.

  • Don’t get sold the story: it smells like a classic Cologne, just a bit more refined, but with scarce longevity and projection. If it were cheap, I’d recommend it as a daily fresh scent, but with a price similar to the rest of the Gentleman line, not even close. Better buy a large format of a decent Cologne; you apply more, smell the same, and it comes out for a fraction of the price.

  • Erik Obiol

The most expensive bath Cologne on the market. It only smells like bath Cologne, with no more complexity than meadow hay. Totally regret buying the 100 ml version; for that price, there were a thousand better options.

  • AGentlemanProject

One of the most elegant fresh fragrances I own, a delight. I’m fascinated by its entire life cycle. Ideal for a sunny day with a linen suit, grenadine tie, and loafers.

  • Brutal opening and great scent, no risk of being too much… subtle and super versatile for heat. For me, who looks for more projection and longevity, it falls a bit short, but since my wife loves it, I’ll forgive it, haha.

  • Thefirstpumpkin

The hype deceived me; I think they removed it from the catalog because it’s not the brand’s best. It smells good, yes, but it’s only fresh at the beginning; an hour later, it’s just musk and spices. Seriously, it’s not a wonder or anything extraordinary; it’s a shower gel with pepper at a luxury price.

  • Carcanuelo

No review. I just say to those who vote for similarities: think twice. It’s a pity they say it smells like Neroli Portofino or Dior Homme Cologne just because it has ‘Cologne’ in the name. Lack of seriousness for guiding buyers who sometimes have to buy blind.

  • I barely detect your presence; you deliver all your essence. Embracing without touching, speaking without listening. How many citrus notes were sacrificed to die on my nose? For a noble opening that luckily has no end. Then comes the heart, the most insurgent phase, where everyone is laughter and joy; those who know it will understand. Without those vibrant citrus notes, it’s far from being energizing, showing a more versatile and discreet facet. That powdery iris, highlighted for being well-executed, is accused of being mature, not suitable for the insecure. I’m left speechless, what more can I say? Seeing this gem out of the market and discontinued, unfortunately, that target couldn’t get in. That audience, accustomed and very hard to conquer. However, I disagree with the young who get seduced; better to be a known veteran than new scents with nothing to say. Pale green, they described it, with vetiver touches, pure elegance they produced; it’s a sight to believe. That it’s fleeting, I don’t dispute, I can’t lie about that. It’s a tribute to quality; that’s all I can ask. If I close my eyes and get lost in my longing, hints of harvested love, memories of eternal love.

  • Ramafenoy

Fresh, citrusy, elegant, an excellent combination between citrus and floral. Projection, if scarce! But close to the skin, it lasts a lot. You can feel the quality of its ingredients. One of my favorites for summer.

  • Maximus 94

Wow, wow, wow… what a delicious but so fleeting aroma; why did you have to torture us like this, Givenchy, huh? Well, whatever. This gem (discontinued) from the Gentleman line is one of the richest citrus-aromatic scents I’ve ever smelled; it truly smells good, although to my nose, it’s totally unisex. But come on, they balanced that iris with the citrus and aromatics so well; it’s a shame the longevity is a disaster. 6/10.

  • I think it’s an incredibly elegant Cologne when you mix citrus, iris, and vetiver. It’s not the typical summer citrus or aquatic scent; there’s an extra touch of elegance and sophistication here. In fact, it doesn’t work well for me in high heat because it’s very powdery and can be a bit overwhelming. I see it more as a fresh Cologne for autumn or winter. Have I read that it’s discontinued? What a pity. I’ll dose what I have left very carefully.

  • I love iris and colognes, and this Gentleman Cologne combines both. Does it deliver? Only partially. It’s a subtle, pleasant, innovative, and peculiar scent. It has a faint resemblance to Lalique White, just in case you haven’t tried it, but the Givenchy version clearly has a better composition. The citrus notes are restrained by the dryness and the light powdery touch of a clean iris, transforming what could have been a yellow Cologne into a white/yellowish one—not dense, but delicate. The vetiver adds an earthy touch, very similar to Acqua di Parma’s Colonia Futura. The scent is polarizing; you might love it or hate it, but Givenchy dared to do something that breaks from the ordinary. I don’t see it as a masterpiece, but it breaks with popular trends. It’s very exclusive and leaves a mark. If you’re looking for something similar, clean, elegant, and exclusive, but with infinitely better longevity and projection, try Molecule01 + Iris, a niche masterpiece with steroids. • ElArteDelAroma

Givenchy Gentleman Cologne (Launched 2019, perfumers Nathalie Lorson and Olivier Cresp). Moderate projection and longevity, but a masterful composition. Ideal balance of citrus with a touch of carrot zest, powdery iris notes mixed with lily and white musk: very elegant and clean. The vetiver base adds class and a classic cologne style. It’s for spring and summer, elegant with excellent aromatic quality. The downside is the price: they recently discontinued it and raised the cost, but if you find it at a good price, it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

  • Probably the cleanest perfume in my designer collection (discontinued, I got a 2018 batch without ambroxan). It opens citrusy but not effervescent, more creamy thanks to the iris and petit grain. The scent barely changes; longevity is the shortest: about 45 minutes of projection and 60 more of life. It fades suddenly and barely fixes because it’s light; it smells expensive but behaves like a cheap cologne. I paid $60 and have a love-hate relationship because I have to reapply; it’s not for being outside for long. In the heat, needless to say, it’s subtle, better suited for moderate climates. I know when it runs out it will cease to exist; the first time I heard it, I imagined an old house with a garden, but it doesn’t smell old, just elegant. Impossible to reject, but it lasts me less than 3 hours. It lasts longer on paper than on skin, and on clothes there’s no way due to the low projection.

  • I.aprendiz

When the heat gets intense, this is pure bliss… for me, one of the best in the Gentleman line and perhaps the least known. It has that characteristic iris note but focused on spring and summer, very well accompanied by rosemary that cuts the sweetness and bitterness, with a dance of citrus… spectacular! It’s not explosive in longevity but wraps you in a really cool aura. Elegant, jovial, and a kick of energy against the heat. Awesome cologne!

  • Summing up the previous reviews: SIMPLICITY, FRESHNESS, ELEGANCE, and CLEANLINESS. If its performance were better, it would be perfect. What a shame they discontinued it.

  • I don’t get the hype on this fragrance. It’s a citrus cologne with a dry-down of iris, with poor longevity and projection. It lasted me two days, so I just sold it.

  • Unimpeachable perfume: if you don’t like it, you’re just angry at life. It just needs a bit more performance to be perfect.

  • For men over 30. Without a doubt, the best Gentleman. Ideal for extreme heat. Citrus-aromatic fragrance. Pity they discontinued it.

  • Exquisite aroma. I wear it for padel or soccer and it’s a delight. Also fantastic for flights or after a shower. Spectacular for summer and very comfortable for daily wear. If you’re looking for something similar but more elegant with a ‘cool’ sensation, I recommend Terre d’Hermès Eau Givre. Cheers!

  • Wilson Manolito

It doesn’t last long and has weak projection, but I love wearing it to work; it smells great, almost like a vegetable zest, with a very subtle iris and a citrus opening that lifts the mood.

  • Marcus_001

Heading to Marrakech with 46-degree heat? This is a brutal choice for extreme temperatures if you like colognes. In my opinion, the best in the Gentleman line.

  • Ricardo-powa

I had it and sold it. It smells like carrot, gentlemen. It’s not the great marvel, but it is different. Would you like to smell like a carrot? I wouldn’t. (It has absolutely nothing to do with Artisan Pure xd!)

  • Agustin Vera

I hope Givenchy discontinued it due to performance failure and not because of the scent or its success. I think in 2025 Gentleman will be a rework of this. For sure, something fresh needs to come out, since we’ve had two Society and Privée, plus there was no summer scent left. For the reformulation, I hope for a minimal touch of sweetness with tonka bean or amber mixed with a little cedar, more iris, maybe rose and violet. I think it would improve performance and suit my taste better. What I perceive now: the floral and sparkling citrus notes don’t last, they’re weak, the dry-down comes quickly and ends up slightly bitter and opaque.

  • The cleanest perfume I’ve ever smelled. Even though it doesn’t last, it’s a marvel to smell on you every chance you get. Class, sophistication, I really love it.

  • Elegant, refined, exquisite, unisex, and comforting. It conveys class and sophistication. The blend of citrus and iris is sublime. It makes you feel clean and refined. As an eau de cologne, it doesn’t have great performance. The only flaw is that there are alternatives that are much cheaper and easier to find, though with a tiny bit less quality than this Givenchy.

  • JoseMartin

I think the scent is great; the citrus notes in the opening fade quickly to make way for a soft but present iris, very pleasant. I wear it in summer and it works great if you like iris. I’ve heard criticisms about longevity and projection, but for me, it projects well for the first two hours and then drops to a personal bubble. It seems elegant for the heat; unfortunately, it’s discontinued, but something needs to come out as a Gentleman for the heat, we’re waiting.

  • Pablo.GoAl

A true gem, a perfume marvel, and a blessed find. It feels fresh, elegant, subtle, clean… ideal for daily wear, work… very versatile for spring, summer, and autumn mornings. It doesn’t perform poorly for me; I catch it in bursts and it generates calm and confidence. Totally recommended.

  • A masculine fragrance, clean, serious, elegant, and classy. As for performance, I don’t call it a problem: it’s formal, so it has to be. It projects for the first hour and then stays close to you, without invading. You can feel it if you’re near, it’s not for showering and grabbing attention. I’d use it at weddings or elegant events where you need to smell good but subtly, without bothering anyone.

  • Note on this perfume: Neither Lalique White nor Artisan Pure are clones or similar. Lalique smells synthetic, like detergent, nothing natural, and almost unpleasant. Artisan Pure is natural and fresh, but it doesn’t smell like this Givenchy at all. There is no similar scent that replaces this discontinuation. Don’t buy both thinking it’s the same; I fell for the hype too. I’ve tried all of them, but this Gentleman is already gone.

  • Triumph of the ephemeral. Seems simple, but why doesn’t any other cologne smell like it? With all its success and the complaints about discontinuation, why didn’t they make something similar? And why the hell did they kill it? It’s not easy, gentlemen. There’s magic in its simplicity. But watch out, simple doesn’t mean it actually is, it just looks like it 🙂
