In my opinion, it smells like the dry-down of Jean Paul Gaultier Le Beau Le Parfum. This one smells similar but in a more mature stage; it feels quite like a blend of coconut and cedar that complements the iris and violet.
Nothing like Santal 33; it’s more like Moncler Pour Homme and a bit of Lalique L’Insoumis, but improved. True to its notes, it’s a green scent with woody touches, versatile for occasions but not youthful. In my experience, I don’t feel great performance (longevity, trail, and projection); it’s quite discreet. You’d have to spray it 15 times or more to be noticed, and reapply every 5-6 hours. Very good aroma, worth trying.
Generic scent.
A truly pleasant fragrance. It combines the floral touch with that wood in perfect harmony, being a sweet but not cloying perfume. The combination is very novel; it reminds me of notes from Le Cygne Monsieur (more floral and less powdery). It’s a spring fragrance made right, though it’s excellent in early autumn or on cool summer days. In winter, I think it lacks enough for very cold days, and in extreme heat, I wouldn’t use it either. The longevity is good for a 35-euro perfume (tester) without needing constant reapplication. It stays in my collection and for those starting out, it’s an excellent price-quality alternative, the best of the explorers.
Montblanc Explorer Platinum is, without a doubt, the best fragrance from Montblanc in my opinion. It’s a shame the brand always feels like it’s missing something. This is the most unique and distinct of all; many people say it’s not, but I find it has a subtle touch of the regular Explorer, more balanced. Yes, it resembles Santal 33, but in a different vibe; you can tell they didn’t try to make a dupe. It’s versatile, unique, balanced, and long-lasting, perfect for any terrain. It’s worth it if you find it at a good price: in-store it’s $120, but in Chile you can find the tester for $30. It’s not a blind buy; it smells like someone who knows their path and doesn’t waste time on nonsense. It has coconut, but very subtle, like a scratch that achieves balance. I hope Montblanc gets its act together so fragrances like this keep improving.
Based on my limited use, the bottle is gorgeous: heavy, with fine details and a metal cap. The fragrance is richer than I expected; it’s not just for the office or mature men as some reviews say. It’s a floral woody scent with a sweet touch. Right out of the bottle, it smells very rich and floral, but as it dries down, the sweetness fades a bit and the wood notes come forward. On skin, I’d say it lasts about 6 to 7 hours—not a beast mode, but the projection is moderate and you’ll definitely catch it from about 5 feet away. Women will surely like it, and anyone 20 and up can wear it in any season. I’m giving it an 8/10. P.S.: After weeks, it soaks into clothes spectacularly, even after washing, it still smells great. Its projection and longevity are solid. As a signature scent or for dates, it’s spectacular. I’ve had many perfumes and this surprised me because I wasn’t expecting much. Buy it blind, you won’t regret it.
Something weird happens with this perfume for me: I feel like it doesn’t project at all, but the scent on the skin is eternal, like your skin naturally has that aroma. It’s not negative, just not made to grab attention. It’s a serious, perhaps formal scent with that ‘dad’ vibe, but usable by young people. It opens with a strong herbal explosion that fades quickly, leaving the wood as the star. To my nose, it smells like clean, noble wooden pencils, and according to those close to me, it’s very masculine. It’s a whole experience, but not for everyone.
I tried it at first and it didn’t click for me—the scent and longevity weren’t top-tier. But my wife loved it immediately. She’d wear it on me without me noticing much, until one day I noticed my jacket smelled incredible, even though I’d been wearing it for a while. Yesterday I tried it again and wow, the magic was back! I don’t know if it was the weather, my nose changing, or the perfume maturing in the drawer, but it blew my mind. It’s a beast, lasts forever, projects like crazy for the first 3 hours, and smells spectacular. I hope they don’t reformulate it; it’s a unique gem you absolutely have to own.
A very rich and fulfilling perfume. I don’t see myself wearing it; it has a more mature or discreet character. It doesn’t have much projection, but the longevity is good.
Very rich; the sweetness feels creamy. It reminds me of Tous Le Colognes Concentrees for Men and the Allure Home Sport Blanche edition.
Good fragrance, noticeable but not invasive with decent longevity (about 5 hours), but it performs better on clothes. I bought the 50ml at a good price and it lasted until the end of 2023. It smells different, fresh, with a dominant metallic touch (I’m not sure where that comes from), but with a sweet floral that’s accentuated by the cedar. For me, it’s very good for work, but nothing else. Its price stands out, and it doesn’t smell generic. It projects little, only in small spaces. In four months, I only got one compliment, from a man in the car at work. I give it a 7/10 overall.
My girlfriend’s favorite perfume. Probably because of the freesia. It’s a scent between youthful and mature, ideal for daily wear. If you don’t know freesia, it might seem very sweet, but to me it’s vibrant and needs a trained nose to enchant you. Spectacular longevity: 10-12 hours on my skin.
Spectacular. Not a hint of Santal 33.
What an aroma, what an aroma… I’ve worn it for over a month and it’s very pleasant, too masculine and well-received. The opening is sweet and turns woody and masculine. It’s an all-rounder, works in cold and heat without extremes. Good performance: with 8 or 10 sprays, it lasts 8 or 10 hours without losing strength. Sillage is moderate; after two hours, it becomes a personal bubble but still projects. If you try it, buy it, it’s a good option. Update: I see it as subtle, not astringent but noticeable, fresh-aromatic (no citrus) and perfect for cool days day or night with a woody base; I think the cedar has a creamy sandalwood touch.
It smells like Santal 33 to me, which takes points off because that DNA smells like sweet Baygon to me, so I can’t say anything good about it.
It smells weird within minutes, lasts 10-15 minutes, and then disappears. Once dried, it smells very good to me—nothing invasive and perfect for the office.
I gave it two chances and nothing. To me, it’s a synthetic sweet-metallic bomb. I love Explorer and UltraBlue, but I can’t do this one. I understand others might like it, but outside my opinion, it’s impossible to get compliments.
To me, it smells like newspaper, probably due to the metallic and ozonic notes. It shifts from green to soapy, very clean. It doesn’t last long; after two hours it’s just skin scent, and by six, it’s gone. It’s decent, rich, and worth it for the price. A great gift for someone not deeply into perfumes. It smells original within the sweet mainstream, can please anyone, and works for everything. Versatile, good, and cheap.
Perfect for daily wear, casual dates, or semi-formal occasions. Opens metallic, ozonic, and floral with a sweet twist from the freesia; it stays consistent as it dries. The violet and freesia combo is rich—slightly sweet but not cloying. It’s floral, woody, and airy. If you pay attention, you’ll smell metal. The cedar and white woods provide cleanliness. I’ve received several compliments. Masculine, calm, clean, and neat, yet distinct. My girlfriend loved it too. Longevity: 6 hours. Projection: 2 hours moderate, reaching the elbow. Sillage: moderate at first, then soft for another hour. Discreet but rich up close. Batch from March 2024.
I get a sweet pineapple-like touch. Smells like mixing Stallion 53 (without leather) with Lattafa’s Rave Now.
You smell Explorer Platinum and you think: work, job situation. Normally I only use it for the office, meetings, chats… It projects an image of a professional, calm, and responsible man. Despite that use, it’s a very versatile fragrance. Excellent duration of 7 to 8 hours. Projects as it should and then stays in a perceptible bubble until the end without bothering anyone. Perfect for intermediate seasons. I have about 40 perfumes, several niche, and honestly this is the one that has given me the most compliments. I prefer detecting reactions and with this I’ve noticed several people approached to tell me I smell good. Excellent and quite original perfume. Edit: less than a year later, I think in my bottle (well kept) the opening is spoiling a bit.
Like mixing L’Insoumis by Lalique, JPG Le Beau, and Kenzo Homme without the aquatic note. Tight, herbal aroma due to rosemary, with a synthetic cedar base for structure and longevity. Has a slight hint of coconut or fig leaf, watch out, 100% synthetic note but very well made, making it fresh, pleasant, and very wearable in offices, public venues, and moderate temperatures, without danger of making anyone dizzy. For heat above 30 degrees, there are better options. I see it as masculine without excess, without fake machismo or trendy floral ambiguities. Very good duration for the current designer landscape, very contained price. Versatile and reliable. I don’t see it for hitting on in the nightlife bar where any drugstore clone of Invictus, Million, or Sauvage would eat you alive. The French feather house Montblanc, without going for the rich girl vibe or trying to impress with weird designs or the eighth aromatic wonder, is working on making commercial fragrances with a very good quality-price ratio. The result, the sales. Let the competition learn. Don’t ask for apples from an elm, kid. It’s not a blatant copy of trendy pop fragrance, it’s super accessible, you have it at the corner Druni/Douglas/Primor to try it, they give samples in many places, and besides, what the hell, it’s well made. Santal 33? Take a deep breath and say 33, please. Metal? Yes, Iron, Judas, Pantera, and Slayer.
At first it didn’t convince me, but once it dries it’s something else, simply rich and excellent. Projects too much for the first two hours.
What little rating for such a good fragrance, dude!
Alert, fragrance lovers! I haven’t seen massive reviews and it has me curious because it has everything you’re looking for: longevity, trail, and lasts days on clothes. It’s not the same as Santal 33, it’s a slightly sweet wood, maybe due to the violet and rosemary, but it’s addictive. Perfect as a signature scent, can be used all year, even in formal moments. What a great perfume, congratulations to Montblanc!
Awesome! A very versatile fragrance, no need to be complex to stand out.
Greetings! This Montblanc is a hidden gem. A true marvel! Not many talk about it, but it hooks women 100%. It smells of violet leaves, mineral notes, a bit of rosemary (ozonic), and a flawless finish with cedar and maybe a touch of patchouli. Does it resemble Santal 33? Yes, it has the vibe, but Santal is very dry and woody; Explorer Platinum is rounder, floral, and sweet (not gourmand). Its woody dry down is of another caliber. It’s not linear; it has defined stages. I’ve had three bottles since 2023 and use it as a magnet to calm people down; it softens things and makes people treat you calmly. If your girlfriend or wife got mad at you for leaving without her, use this the next day and see how soft she becomes. The presentation is impeccable, better than many niche brands. The notes are superior quality, very well blended. It’s very pleasant. There’s a very similar one, Bravo Monsieur by El Ganso, but this has less cardamomo in the opening and they’re similar at the end without being identical. Blind buy? Yes, and repeat, women love it. Lasts more than 8 hours and projects well. Lasts days on clothes. Don’t hesitate to try it. The price is ridiculous for what it is. Watch out, buy from official sites.
Very good, smells masculine, projects, and lasts like a boss. For the price, I recommend it 100%, although the original Explorer is better, this is a crack too. I use it for the gym, uni, ideal for everyday, except in intense cold.
A soft fragrance with floral, ozonic, and woody notes. Honestly, I wasn’t expecting this; at first, that ozonic note smells weird, almost bitter, but it passes quickly, leaving behind that rich violet and wood. It’s a bit subtle, seems like it doesn’t cling much, but hours go by and you always notice it. Lasts more than 6 or 8 hours, though the trail is just right. It’s serious, mature, ideal for the office or cold, formal settings; it might not fit in more relaxed spots. I’d give it an 8/10.
Few votes for something this good. It’s not a projection monster, but every time I walk up to greet someone, men and women ask what I’m wearing. It lasts about 5-6 hours on skin, and while it doesn’t project for miles, up close it’s a total hit.
2025 Update: I bought a batch from two years ago and it smells rich. Upon application, you first note a sweet herbal smell with a woody base, the statice predominates, and then it softens until you feel those non-dry woods. It’s creamy, nothing harsh, with a herbal, sweet, and woody development. Fresh and lasts 4 or 5 hours easily. It’s a rich magnet from Montblanc; worth the price if you want to try something new. I bought it recently and it’s one of the best investments I’ve made in perfumery.
Super versatile and friendly perfume, with an elegant touch. Worth it and you can buy it blindly without thinking. Opening is semi-fruitful and herbaceous, heart is floral and green, and base is woods (maybe cedar) with something of musk. If you collect perfumes, this shouldn’t be missing; if you want an all-rounder that won’t leave you stranded, this is it. 10 hours longevity on my skin, though after the fourth hour it stays on skin but is noticeable. Decent projection for the first 90 minutes, then personal bubble. Perfect for close situations and the office, gives that elegant touch without bothering. 100% recommended.
Batch 01/24, incredible smell. I have several perfumes for hot and cold weather, but none like this. At first it smells like vinegar or pickles in brine, but believe me, in 5 minutes it evolves into some incredibly rich woods. It’s 100% masculine; I imagine someone with everything solved in life. Smells like a cold cabin with the fireplace lit, that wood smell that dries before burning. It’s going to become my signature; something has me hooked. I’m not an expert, but I bought it blindly and have no regrets. The longevity is beastly: I put it on at 9pm, showered, and at 9am it was still smelling; on clothes it lasted until I washed it. If you want to smell it all day, this is for you. The trail is moderate, doesn’t flood but you’d sacrifice anything to smell it. I haven’t tried the others in the line, but this is the best of the three. I asked ChatGPT about layering and it said it goes well with the Explorer Black; since I don’t have it, I use the CDN Intense Man and ufff, if you have those two try them, it’s a delight. Suitable for any occasion, day or night.
Very good and versatile aroma, ideal for the office. Not beastly, but noticeable, fresh and clean, neither too formal nor youthful, just perfect.
I tried it and it dazzled me, so I took it. The box from batch 23 came with the cream and a 10ml sample, and the opening smells like cheese, like a leg of ham. Did this happen to anyone else? I think I got unlucky; I had read that it goes bad over time. Check that out just in case.
I feel very sharp with it. It has a woody base but is very bright. I’m smelling it right now and it pushes me away; it’s extremely strong, hard to perceive the notes well. I sense a rich smell, especially when it’s dry, with a clear violet, but I don’t feel it as excessively floral. Common smell, not original but not bad. At its price, it’s decent, but very synthetic for my taste.
I have the same issue with violet as with iris: I like the aroma, but I’m not sure if I’d want to smell that, especially when the note is very prominent. Here, the violet is always present, which makes it delicate; you have to compensate with your clothes and character to avoid making a bad impression. It’s a sharp violet smell, more sharp violet, linear, no evolution; I don’t see anything novel. There were other perfumes with a similar smell before, but usually in men’s fragrances they are discontinued. To highlight the longevity: on my skin it lasted 7-8 hours, projecting 3-4 hours, and on the shirt it still smelled strong for days; after a week it was still detectable, though very faint. Still, I wouldn’t recommend it blindly, especially if you like very masculine scents; I don’t see it for romantic situations, more for a jovial vibe. If you already know the violet smell and like it, this is a good option.
It’s a great perfume that depresses me because it doesn’t suit my skin. Same thing happens with Mr. Gentleman; it doesn’t turn ugly, but it doesn’t work. I was fascinated by it on paper and bought it. The first use felt okay, but less than expected. With subsequent wears, it literally smelled like sweat mixed with damp clothes left in a closed space, very unpleasant. It’s just my skin type. Definitely not for heat; the rapid oxidation gives it that bad smell. After half an hour, it becomes acceptable. Just to say: before buying, get a decant and test how it reacts on your skin. The scent is rich, dry, not sharp. Some feel it as citrus, I don’t. Dominant notes are violet leaves, a dry almost aquatic wood, and a rough herbal touch. Linear development. Lasts 7 hours, projects, and leaves a strong trail for an hour and a half, an ethereal trail that dominates the room. In my case, I wouldn’t rate it to the max, but the quality deserves it. Please test it well before buying. If your skin combines with it, it could be your top.
Smells different from what we use daily: green, earthy, with a floral touch. I wouldn’t recommend it blindly; it’s a risky choice. Lasts 6-7 hours, not beastly projection but you definitely notice it. Had a funny story with a friend; at first she said she didn’t like it with a weird look, but half an hour later she got hit by some blasts and loved it. Very masculine, nothing youthful.
Adventurous aroma, mountain-like, woody, and earthy. Goes perfectly with earth-toned clothes. Decent longevity: 2/3 hours projecting and 6/7 on skin. 8/10.
