Pity this Drakkar flanker. Something similar happens with Versace Oud Noir: exquisite fragrance but terrible performance. The problem with this Intense is its zero projection and sillage; it doesn’t reach an hour and stays right on the skin. The thing is, if you’re looking for it, you’ll find it clinging to the skin for over 10 hours. Even after showering, 10 hours later, I could still smell it with unusual intensity. The chemistry is capricious, and the volatility is extremely low. It’s a modernized fougere where lavender is the star, with an amber base that sweetens but weakens the coumarin. At first, I notice a bitter touch from the absinthe, but it’s gone in 15 minutes. Then lavender takes over with a growing sweetness. It stays linear for over 10 hours. I don’t recommend buying based on this performance. I like to wear fragrance for my own enjoyment; I don’t care much if people notice it, but the bare minimum is that it should be detectable without me pressing my nose to my arm.
Similar to Azzaro Pour Homme Intense: ambered, licorish, with that Drakkar Noir barbershop touch. The performance is ghostly; it seems like it’s not there unless you’re looking for it. I’m still sticking with the Noir.
Citrus, herbs, lots of lavender, moss, and potent patchouli. This gives the classic fougere earthy and barbershop vibes. However, it’s modern, semi-formal, and youthful. Projection and longevity are average despite being an ‘Intense’. Not my style.
Citrus, herbs, lots of lavender, moss, and a powerful patchouli. It’s a classic fougère composition with earthy and barber shop vibes. However, it’s modern, semi-formal, and for younger people. It has average projection and durability despite being an Intense. It’s not my style.
A good proposal for today, not so much ‘Intense’ for yesterday. I’m not talking about projection, which is short compared to the Noir but goes well for the price. I mean the scent: it’s modern, understandable for now, with a classic stamp updated for today, nothing we’d expect from an old-school ‘Intense’. Summary: intense for the new millennium but a bit of a game for the old Noir users. The opening is fresh, citrusy, and soapy, but soon the ‘robotized’ clary sage and 2.0 leather notes crush the herbal vibe. It’s good for curious young people or those with nostalgia, and for those who like the product without knowing much about the niche.
Licorish, herbal, and they use that updated soapy touch well in the 25+ crowd wanting to project character. People say it doesn’t last, but it lasts just as long as any other EDT for me. Excellent launch and affordable. What more could you ask for?
Smells herbal and great, like a bathroom air freshener 😂. Better suited for older folks, but it performs well (over 6 hours on skin). The drydown is heavy on suede, moss, and lavender (hence why it smells like a cleaning product 😂). I don’t recommend buying without trying first 🕉️.
What a relief that they’re still making the Designer Barbershop today. It’s a fougère very similar to the original 1982 version, but with a liquorish twist that clearly marks it as a flanker, and that’s a plus. I picked up the 50ml bottle for €15, and I was beaming from ear to ear at that price.
I loved it at first. You can definitely hear the Drakkar signature with the juniper and clary sage heart, but this Intense version is more balsamic and has a licorish sweetness that makes it a true manual barbershop. Very pleasant and original. Projection is limited and longevity isn’t top-tier; maybe spraying more would help. It’s affordable, so I didn’t rule it out (I finally did, 25€ for 100ml, and I’m satisfied).
At first, I thought it was great. You can perfectly spot the Drakkar signature with that heart of juniper berry and rosemary. But in the Intense version, there are more balsamic notes and a touch of liquorish sweetness that makes it a proper barbershop. Very pleasant and with a certain originality. However, the projection is limited and the longevity isn’t exactly world-class. Maybe it improves if you’re generous with the spray. Anyway, it’s quite affordable, and I don’t rule out buying it. (In the end, I bought a bottle and I’m satisfied. I think it’s a steal for the price: about €25 for the 100ml bottle).
What a marvel that the barber style is still alive among designers today. It’s a fougere similar to the 1982 original but with a licorish note; you can tell it’s a flanker, and that’s a plus. I picked up 50ml for $15, and at that price, I was smiling from ear to ear…
Soapy with a licorish twist… it’s a classic barbershop scent with modern touches. Weak projection and skin-only longevity. Worth it for the price: I grabbed 100ml for $10. Yes, I’d buy it again.
The barber style is back with a vengeance, but Guy Laroche missed a huge opportunity with this Intense. It’s a ‘want but can’t have’: starts promising with bergamot, lavender, and that green galbanum, but fades out after 60-70 minutes. It lacks the signature shaving foam punch of the original; this version is warmer and woodier, with a noticeable alcohol bite. The metallic lavender helps the citrus last a bit longer, but it falls short for Noir fans. If you know Drakkar, give it a try, but don’t expect it to bridge the gap to the legend.
This is my favorite cologne for now, I’d be smelling it all the time. An old school cologne but at the same time wearable. I see it for mature people with their own personality. I love putting it on and smelling it on my wrists every moment. It brightens my day. It smells very good, in my opinion it’s different from the others nowadays. For its price, it’s worth having it in the collection. Drakkar Noir is too vintage for my taste, however I love this one because it carries its DNA but more modern and domesticated… It lasts longer than it seems because that scent is different and you start noticing it without realizing it.
Surprisingly pleasant… I really expected less from this fragrance due to the comments I had heard. I used to use Drakkar Noir back in the 90s, I still have it. I think this is a great option for mature men, but if you’re young and like it, go ahead, use it.
Surprisingly pleasant… I really expected less based on the comments I’d read. I used Drakkar Noir back in the 90s and still have some. I think it’s a great option for mature men, but if you’re young and like it, go for it.
I own both the original Drakkar Noir and this Intense. It’s hard to choose which I prefer. The Intense feels a bit more formal; it doesn’t smell explicitly of rum, but you can tell it’s there. It’s serious yet fun, perfect for daily wear in mild climates. The lavender is very prominent. The opening can be strong for some, but not too much. The suede and patchouli are absolutely delicious. It’s the contemporary take on the classic, even if the Intense label doesn’t quite fit. Price/Quality: 9/10. It brings back memories of Sundays with my dad.
I have both Drakkar Noir and this Intense. Which one do I like more? Hard choice. This Intense is a bit formal, there’s no declared rum note, but of course it’s felt. It’s more serious, but fun. It’s for daily use in temperate climates. The lavender is very present. The opening can be strong for some, but it’s not. The suede feels delicious along with the patchouli. It’s the contemporary version of the classic, I don’t see the Intense version. Price/quality 9/10. It reminds me of Sunday outings with my dad.
I really like Drakkar Noir and I tested this with some reservations due to the comments. I’ll try to be synthetic: it’s 30% like Drakkar Noir. I sense the vintage lavender base unmistakably but very in the background. Despite that old base, it’s noticeable that it’s modernized because it has an aldehydic and sweet air that the other doesn’t have. It has nothing to do with Intense, it smells like an EDT more, but here there is no intensity regarding duration or trail. In fact, the projection is low. Ideal perfume to keep in your pocket (the bottle isn’t large) and apply it before entering a place. The scent is rich and it’s not something felt much nowadays, so it will catch attention. I don’t regret buying it, plus it’s cheap.
I agree with those opinions that find 30% of Drakkar Noir in this fragrance. Of course, there are barber shop notes, it’s almost a mandatory requirement in this gem. At first, its herbal phase is very pleasant, that’s where it reminds me of its sister. To me, that aldehydic note and that suede base have me hooked. It won’t project, but its scent is very rich. Highly recommended, in my opinion BBB. From 25 until you can take it. Very versatile in cool climates. Ideal for night.
I agree with those who say there’s about 30% of the original Drakkar Noir in here. There are clearly barber shop notes; it’s almost mandatory in this masterpiece. At first, the herbal phase is very pleasant—that’s where I get reminded of its sister. For me, that liquorish note and the background suede keep me hooked. It doesn’t project much, but the scent is rich. Highly recommended; for my taste, it’s a BBB. From €25 until the body can take it. Very versatile in cool weather, ideal for going out at night.
After years of being into perfumery, I started giving way to fougères and every day I like them a little more. For very little money I bought Drakkar Intense blind; although the first impression wasn’t good, I gave it a couple of uses and ended up liking it more than expected. I interpret this formula in a very simple way: a modern take on the classic fougère. They added an ambered sweetness to the base of classic green and lavender, turning it into a very pleasant version. With very modest performance, you can spray without fear, and if possible, carry it in your bag or backpack to enjoy a boost as the hours pass. Harmless, good for daily use almost all year round or summer nights.
It’s that aroma described as a barber shop scent, but with a sweet suede note. It’s delicious, but it lasts very little.
Exquisite and very versatile. It’s true that the performance is poor, however you can apply more than 10 sprays, even below the clothes, and it will accompany you for 8 hours without problems. It has little projection but is persistent at about 50 cm. If you want more projection, don’t be afraid to reapply a couple of sprays every 3 hours; for the price, it’s worth it.
Herbal-soapy fragrance but with a quite pleasant sweet touch. It’s a classic fougère but modernized. I see it as ideal for mature men (40 and up, I think it looks phenomenal). For under 30 euros, it’s a good purchase in terms of quality-price. That said, as an EDP it has nothing because it behaves like an EDT. Lastly, and even at the risk of being picky, there’s a detail about the nice bottle that left me a bit cold: the absence of a decorative cap on the atomizer. I remember the original Drakkar didn’t have one either, so they probably wanted to continue with the ‘tradition’. It seems like a detail of no importance when the bottle is for yourself, but when you consider buying it as a gift, the fact that it lacks a decorative cap gives it a ‘cheap’ look and a certain negligence (deliberate, in this case) that detracts from the whole.
A flanker that keeps the 80s soul of the classic Drakkar Noir. It’s an aromatic fougère with a masculine character, where lavender and green notes blend with a slightly sweet and warm base without losing that ‘old school’ presence. Ideal for autumn and winter. I especially recommend it for men over 35 or 40 who are looking for traditional, personality-filled scents with a modern touch that doesn’t overpower. Longevity is good, around 6 to 8 hours; the last 3 are skin scent, leaving a moderate trail that generates compliments at gatherings, work, or night outs. I recommend keeping it in your collection.
Drakkar Noir with a gourmand touch. Exquisite. Updated for eras where masculinity scares people, so they softened it with that sweet touch. Maybe to wear at night while the original Drakkar Noir is for the day. Ideal for intimacy with a woman. Apply sparingly because it’s very intense when you first spray it. A must-buy for anyone with normal testosterone levels.
Modernized Fougere OG. Spectacular for summer nights and everyday wear in winter, extremely masculine. As one review says, a must-buy for anyone with 90s-level testosterone. Warning: it won’t suit everyone; it mixes herbal with sweet, and some will say you smell like Dandy Man (as if that’s a bad thing). In my case, I’m under 25 and it might be weird, but I encourage everyone who doesn’t want to walk down the street smelling like lemon pie to buy it.
The quality and scent are top-notch, half vintage with a modern touch, ‘neat and soapy’ style for casual use, day or night, any season. The downside is that it doesn’t last long, but for the price, you can douse yourself like there’s no tomorrow and it’s a blast. Smells like a clean man with a hairy chest, metrosexuals abstain.
The first thing I thought when I smelled it was Dandy Man. Then it settles a bit, but between the sweetness, the talcum powder, and the barbershop smell, it’s 3/4 of Dandy Man. I stick with the original.
I’ve tried to like it several times, but I can’t. It smells nice on the cap and is the most concentrated Noir, coming out great when sprayed, but then that super heavy suede kicks in, reminding me of old bus seats and tides. At the same time, it tries to be sweet with herbs that make it a dizzying and heavy liquor. It has some creaminess at the base and a masculine, bitter burst that many might like. It has its charm, but it’s not for me. Scent: 0.8, Projection: 6.7, Longevity: 6.3. Final Rating: 4/10.
I’ve had several chances, but I couldn’t make it. I tried to find a liking for it; you smell the cap and it’s the Noir but more concentrated. You spray it and it looks good, but after a second, that super heavy suede kicks in, reminding me of those old excursion bus seats that make you dizzy. At the same time, it tries to be sweet with all those herbs, turning it into a tipsy, heavy liquor. Well, it’s not entirely bad; it has some nice creaminess at the base. You pass your hand over it and get a masculine, bitter burst that many might like. Like all of them, it has its particular charm… but it’s not for me. Scent: 0.8, Projection/Longevity: 6.7, Longevity: 6.3. Final Rating: 4/10. ***46% perfection***
Smells good, lasts good, and projects well, very rich.
I bought it online for about 20€. The scent is the classic barbershop smell but 20-30% more modern, creamier, and closer than Drakkar Noir, which is more explosive and classic. Depending on the season or time of day, you can use it from 4 to 12 sprays. On my dry skin, it lasts about 4-5 hours, much better with oxidation. If you apply more, it lasts longer. On clothes, it lasted a day, not bad. It’s for men, recommended for over 40. I use it for everything: casual if you have a collection, or as a signature if you don’t want to spend much. Surprisingly, I’ve had compliments, but don’t buy it thinking about that; perfume depends on the person and many factors.
This is the scent of a working man, a heavyweight. It doesn’t smell like an office or a party. I went to a construction site and the engineer who greeted us was covered in dust, wearing a hard hat and gloves, and he had that smell. There was no other option. It’s masculine, vintage, and long-lasting. Yes, it smells like a barbershop but sweeter. While Drakkar Noir is sparkling, this settles into a subtle sweetness. The suede adds that dusty but very pleasant sensation.
Starts with a freshly shaven grandfather scent, with barber soap that over time becomes sweeter and more modern, though the barber note always remains. I use it right after a shower and it lasts about 4 or 5 hours, very well for the price. You put it on and suddenly feel like your chest hair has grown.
Drakkar Intense by Guy Laroche. My dad used the original Drakkar Noir for years, so it was always his scent, the paradigm of the big man. Now that I’m a big man myself and my dad is gone, this fragrance lives in my memories. I never thought about buying it because it was his, but seeing it on sale at Fragantica and knowing it was from 2022, I decided to try it. It was a find. It’s a nod to the original, and although it’s an Eau de Parfum, I think it lasts less or has less sillage than the old one, which used to flood the whole house when you walked out. This smells like soap, rosemary, and a barbershop, very pleasant, and at the end has a touch of a forest after rain. It doesn’t surprise but doesn’t disappoint either. I bought the 50ml and I’m sure I’ll repurchase; for $10 it was a safe purchase. Ideal for autumn and spring nights for informal outings. Rating: 8/10.
