  I respect the Hoggar fans, but the scent felt weak… Their choice of notes (poor and unfortunate with luxury ingredients) ends up smelling like Axe body spray or insecticide… It’s not unpleasant, but it doesn’t smell like ‘perfume.’ I’d prefer Ambre Noir from the same brand a thousand times over: similar bottle, identical price, and much better nuances since it’s by Christophe Raynaud (don’t hate the perfumer; sometimes the raw materials fail; those who hate Raynaud for Paco Rabanne or Quentin Bisch for Puig…). It’s almost like CH Men Privé at a third of the price and smells better on my skin, if not better than some in the EDP collection like Garden Party or Autour de Minuit.

  At first, it made me a bit queasy; I smelled strong spicy cinnamon. Then a sweeter note came out, like vanilla. I bought it blind on sale. With time and more wear, I grew to like it. Definitely don’t recommend buying it blind. The best part is it lasts longer than average in this price range. Use it in cool climates.

  I’ve been wearing this for years, since the very first bottle. The listed notes don’t match what it smells like or how I feel. It’s a bomb of nutmeg, tonka bean, and lavender at full blast, which is why many confuse it with cinnamon. To me, it always sounds like Gentlemen Only Absolute; they aren’t the same, but they walk the same street. No doubt it has sandalwood in the base, just like Atlas cedar, both favorites of the brand.

  Game changer: the price and note list say nothing about the quality. For the cost, it’s a beast; I love the scent, I just wish it lasted longer, but that’s it. An absolute steal.
