  • Drakkar Dynamik is a slippery perfume that I managed to buy at a good price; now it costs irregularly, up to $135 for 100ml. It never really caught on in the late 90s market and was soon discontinued unjustly. Although there are negative opinions on forums, this is an ode to styrax or benjoin, a resin from humid forests that might seem synthetic but isn’t, just like ambergris. It opens with a massive citrus-green hit that dominates the entire life of this resinous, citrusy, and effective fragrance. The explosive combo has a synthetic edge, but it’s the benjoin boosted by pink pepper and tangerine that gives it a vibrant, energetic vibe, backing up the word ‘Dynamik.’ Be careful not to spray too much; the potency can overwhelm ten people, but with a moderate application, it’s a hit. It belongs to that segment of fragrances that should never have stopped. Too bad; it brings the best of the house’s DNA and its mother. If half of what’s out there today had this power, we’d be shouting hallelujah. Perfect for hot or cool days, day or night, formal or informal. Over 8 hours of longevity with excellent projection; if you like compliments, it’s a beast. An excellent proposal from Guy Laroche.

  • It’s curious that a house like Guy Laroche has a perfume today that’s so little remembered. There’s almost nothing online, and the mentions are mostly negative. Thanks to a comment from my friend MarcusRS, I found it. Drakkar Dynamik is an extreme take on freshness, atypical like Giorgio’s Wings or Bogart’s Silver Scent Pure. It opens with strong lavender and lemon, grapefruit, and hints of rosemary or green notes. It evolves with spicy and crystal accents, perhaps that benjoin MarcusRS mentioned. It always delivers freshness, nothing synthetic or metallic like today’s offerings. Gradually, the Drakkar DNA emerges, but without the earthiness. Projection and longevity are very good, well above the average for 1999. It’s not an easy perfume; it’s complex, almost alien, but I’m a fan of these steroid-level freshies and I loved it. I love the smell of freshly applied shaving cream on my hand. Ideal for heat, though it works well in winter too. Injustifiably ignored, despised, and discontinued.

  • I stumbled upon this yesterday at a local drugstore for just 29€ for 100ml. I had no idea it existed and hadn’t seen it in any perfumeries, but it was a total win. I decided to try it because I’m always a fan of Guy Laroche—I own Drakkar Noir—and when I saw it, I did a quick Google search: it’s insanely priced and seems discontinued. I’ve seen it for 140€, which is ridiculous. I’m not sure if they stopped production yet; my batch is from mid-2021. I absolutely love the scent: fresh and soapy, not that vintage 80s stuff, but more 90s and modern with a complex opening. It has great strength and longevity; it lasted 10 hours on my skin and projected well in the first few hours. It’s noticeable and really surprised me. Too bad it’s discontinued and people are charging that much; by scent alone, it’s a signature fragrance.
