Delicious and versatile enough for daily wear, nothing like its ‘Avant Garde’ name suggests. It’s a youthful, sweet, and warm scent that reminds me of CH Men or Emporio Diamonds. It’s a soft, very versatile sweet woody and spicy fragrance.
One of the greats in my collection for evening wear, alongside Encre Noire or Passion Man. It’s one of those perfumes I can’t deconstruct; the notes are blended so well that I don’t know which one dominates. I feel that female perfumers have a better nose for mixing spices. The Indian nose behind this Avant Garde gives it a touch of her homeland, fantastic. I don’t know which spice prevails, but it’s impossible to criticize. It’s for night, whether formal or informal (chinos and a sweater, not Adidas). 9/10.
Bestial Lanvin perfume. It doesn’t project much, but the trail is exquisite and lasts quite a while. At first, I barely noticed it and had to apply a lot, but with continued use, it becomes more noticeable and lasts for hours. I wore it today after months of not using it, and even though I didn’t leave the house, I can still smell it and love it. It smells like beeswax, honey-like, and tobacco. You can detect resin and pepper, but there’s no vetiver, lavender, or bergamot. It’s available at a great price and outperforms many much more expensive options. Recommended.
A total delight, reminiscent of ‘La Nuit de l’Homme’ but with a smoky tobacco twist that makes it even more interesting, according to my friends. The longevity is brutal—over 12 hours on my skin—with a trail lasting about 1.5 meters for around 8 hours. Take off the hat; it competes with luxury fragrances and costs only €20. Don’t hesitate to grab it in Spain; the 100ml bottle is incredible.
I bought this perfume recently based on good recommendations about it, and I have to say it has a similarity in the opening to ‘YSL La Nuit de l’Homme’. But when I tried YSL in the perfumery, I didn’t really like it, just a little. Now that I have it, I have to say that on my skin it’s very sweet and it starts to saturate my nose, giving me a bit of a headache when applying it. I think with just one or two sprays I’m more than served until my nose gets used to it and I can apply more. In conclusion… Good aroma, good presentation, and if you want a perfume similar to La Nuit, this is yours without a doubt 🙂
To start, I apologize to the rest of the forum; I believe there are ways to write with education even for a review. I am totally disagreeing with Mr. NachoGhez, who I believe doesn’t have the faintest idea of what he’s writing… intrusive and repulsive spicebomb? disgust? filth Avant Garde? Sincerely, I don’t know where he bought his perfumes. I believe reviews serve to interpret another person’s perception and compare it with ours. Well, I give this fragrance a thumbs up; its sweet and woody notes are not cloying. It’s a formal perfume, spices like nutmeg stand out, and something more in the background that I don’t quite perceive. What I would criticize a bit is the lavender, which I notice is synthetic but in small proportions. Good trail and projection, and above all, excellent price-quality ratio. Although there are better ones and this presents nothing new or novel, it is highly recommended.
I love it. As many say, it’s similar to La Nuit de l’Homme, but I must say it’s only similar in the opening; afterwards, it takes on its own personality and is very distinguished and more smoky or tobacco-like. I categorize it as a good perfume due to its good composition, very rich. Ideal for night or late afternoons. Don’t be confused by its opening similar to YSL’s La Nuit de l’Homme; this one is very different.
A good fragrance that you can find at a good price in at least Chile. I feel the sweet honey note, but in the background, reinforcing woody and spicy notes. On my skin, it has a medium trail and longevity (4-6 hours). I find an opening similar to La Nuit de YSL.
Its opening reminds me of Man in Black by Bvlgari, and so does its dry down. Both are noble fragrances with a distinguished pedigree, full-bodied, woody, and textured like an English lord’s library. Notes of alcohol, tobacco, leather, gaia wood, benzoin, and the sweetness of tonka bean, patchouli, and honey. Man in Black has more power at the start, but in the dry down, Avant Garde stays more present and beautiful. I also recall Black Soul Imperial, though its opening has a bitter herbal note I don’t like. As they develop, all three become similar, but in the dry down, Avant Garde shines the brightest. High durability and performance, affordable price in Spain, though it’s not common on websites or in perfumeries. Scent: 8, Trail: 7, Longevity: 8, Performance: 8.
Its opening reminds me of Man in Black by Bvlgari, as does its dry down. Both are noble fragrances, of ancient lineage, with body, wood, and the texture of an English lord’s and Venetian nobleman’s library. Alcoholic, tobacco, leather, guaiac woods, benzoin, and the sweetness of tonka bean, patchouli, and honey. In the dry down, Man in Black has more power, but Avant Garde stays much more present and beautiful. Adding similarities, I remember Black Soul Imperial by Ted Lapidus. The opening of this differs greatly from the other two. I can even add that Black Soul’s opening has a note I dislike, a herbal and bitter note that clashes. As they develop, the three fragrances start to have similar notes. It’s in the dry down where Avant Garde develops all its splendor against the other two. Durability is also greater, and its current price is quite affordable (at least in Spain), although it’s not very common on websites and is absent in perfumeries. SCENT: 8, TRAIL: 7, LONGEVITY: 8, PERFORMANCE: 8.
Woody and sweet, a beautiful combination, although sophisticated and subtle at the same time. Pink pepper, nutmeg, and benzoin are its dominant notes. I love Avant Garde!
Linear fragrance from start to finish. The notes I felt the most were beeswax, tobacco, and benzoin, giving a vanilla tobacco scent with a liquor-like sensation, as if it had brandy. It reminded me of Burberry London but more like Tobacco Vanille. Maybe I’m not far off with those comparisons, since all three are oriental, although I also felt this Lanvin one was spiced. Although it smells good, it’s not perfect and has downsides: with 10 or 12 sprays, I barely get a low or skin-close trail, with slight fluctuations. I don’t complain about longevity; with those sprays, it lasted up to 12 hours. Everything that is born must die; this one is not eternal. It was born when fresh aquatic scents were already in fashion and didn’t fit that trend. Plus, its low trail ended it. It was the last one left in the coffin. Apparently, it was discontinued, but it hasn’t been lost much, as it can be replaced with something similar and better performance, like Tom Ford’s TB or the cheap clones that abound. A formal fragrance for cool or cold climates! If you find it, try it, but if you order it online, don’t pay more than $20 or $30.
I tried it on the go… A sweet tobacco blend with balsamic notes. It has an addictive charisma. Resinous, intense tobacco, and sweet alcoholic notes. Soft, elegant, and nocturnal.
It’s a very refined and pleasant aroma, sweet and balsamic. Beeswax dominates, much sweeter than Donna Karan’s, followed by benzoin, peppers, and tobacco, with touches of cardamom and lavender. It’s a different, beautiful, and elegant perfume. I bought it for my boyfriend, and it smells great on my skin. I only have two complaints: the longevity is very poor and the trail is low. Also, unfortunately, it’s discontinued, I don’t know why, though you can find it if you look a little.
In my opinion, they should put a warning on the box: ‘Extremely Addictive’. This is exactly what this perfume is; an exquisite blend of honey and tobacco that enchants both the wearer and those who get close. I see it as super versatile, elegant for going out at night, and perfect with a t-shirt or polo during the day. It never clashes, it’s discreet and pleasant. A total hit. Its only downside: it stays close to the skin for about 8 hours. I recommend wearing it on cool, breezy days to improve its trail.

Lanvin Avant Garde is woody, balsamic, warm, and sweet. The opening is pleasant, sweet but not cloying, very spiced and slightly floral, with perceptible lavender. The most standout notes are tobacco, honey, and benzoin. The latter, along with the woody accord, are notable in the dry down, with a similarity to Body Kouros. Being sweet, its ideal use is autumn and winter, though it also works on fresh spring days. Its handling of spices and woods gives it a sensual appeal that pleases both men and women. The projection is low but lasts a long time on the skin, more than 12 hours in my case. Another attraction is its relatively low price. I would recommend it to those who know and enjoy fragrances like Body Kouros, Pure Havane, or Michael Kors for Men.
Lanvin’s Avant Garde is woody, balsamic, warm, and sweet. The opening is pleasant, sweet without being cloying, very spicy with a hint of floral, where lavender stands out, although the star notes are tobacco, honey, and benzoin. The latter, with its woody accord, is notable in the dry down, bearing a similarity to Body Kouros. Being sweet, it’s ideal for autumn and winter, though it works well in fresh spring too. Its handling of spices and woods gives it a sensual appeal that pleases both men and women. Projection is low but lasts over 12 hours on my skin. Another hit is its low price. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys Body Kouros, Pure Havane, or Michael Kors for Men.
Avant Garde is undoubtedly a good fragrance: some compare it to La Nuit de YSL and give it an air of JPG Le Male, which by the way smells better and is cheaper. It’s a well-made piece, but it sins by being a rehash, re-chewed, and re-created; it’s nothing new but pleasant. If you already have La Nuit or JPG, you’ll be getting the same thing. Scent: 7.5. Projection: moderate-low. Longevity: 6 to 7 hours. For its price, I consider it recommended.
What a lovely fragrance! It just arrived and I never thought I’d like it so much. I’m terrible at detecting notes, I prefer talking about the experience. It smells sweet, dark, and very easy to accept. It’s a 10/10. We’ll see its performance later.
Winter is coming and it’s time for gourmand scents. Avant Garde enters with a powdery, resinous, and sweet balsamic atmosphere that is very pleasant. Then it turns warm and smoky from the tobacco, leaving a comforting trail thanks to the honey, which is of very good quality. The cardamom, lavender, and nutmeg notes give that non-cloying sweetness, similar to Baileys cream. Its development is slow; it doesn’t fade quickly; you enjoy it in kisses, at a leisurely pace, ideal for cold climates. It has better performance than many expensive gourmands that don’t deliver. Perfect for winter family gatherings, with hugs and close conversations, where trust flourishes. If you can get it, buy it, it’s worth every penny. It’s timeless, ageless; apply enough so the magic happens. Avant Garde lives up to its name: a well-crafted fragrance, not trendy or synthetic, timeless and avant-garde. The sober, matte black bottle is serious like a cultured person, but with a transparent line that reflects the liquid, demonstrating that we should always leave a pure line for our feelings.
Sweet, without the diabetic coma; I’d say it’s softer than La Nuit de L’Homme, which in my opinion is spicier. The feeling is good: sweet, balsamic, and lactonic. The tobacco is pipe tobacco, not leaves, blended with essences. It’s long-lasting, doesn’t project like a bomb with four sprays. It feels heavy on the nose. Downsides: it’s not that original, I get the same comments from others who aren’t in the same league, so I see it as a ‘generic oriental’. Also, the bottle isn’t sealed well and leaks; better to use it before it runs out. Unfortunately, it’s discontinued, so either you pay a lot or look for substitutes: La Nuit de L’Homme and Poker Face are good options, you could even layer them.
Spectacular, seductive, and high-quality aroma, perfect for spring or autumn nights. Longevity and projection are moderate. It’s discontinued but still available.
Smells very similar to Mandarina Duck Pure Black.
Damn, what a delight, ta ta ta cosmic barrel, which planet did you come from… 11/10.
I don’t know how to explain it, it smells great, but it doesn’t last even a minute. I love Avant Garde, but it’s very weak.
I’m coming back in 2026 just to confirm that this gem is no longer in production; it’s one of my absolute favorites, and I’d fill up bottles again if I could.
