Almaz by Kajal is an olfactive fragrance for men and women. Launched in 2022, it was created by Rania Jouaneh. The top notes unfold with blackcurrant, Calabrian bergamot, Amalfi lemon, and mandarin; the heart reveals raspberry, heliotrope, Turkish rose, and iris root; while the base notes complete the composition with brown sugar, Madagascar vanilla, musk, tonka bean, sandalwood, and amber.

Fresh and cheerful, evolving into something opulent and dense, quite sweet. The raspberry is the star, changing and rich in nuances that play with the other notes from start to finish. The bottle fits this concoction perfectly, which seems to come straight out of One Thousand and One Nights. On my skin, it performs wonderfully; when I wear it, I feel happy and seductive, like wearing Botticelli’s Spring.

A fruity, fresh, and cheerful scent that turns opulent and dense, with a quite sweet touch. The raspberry stands out, but it’s ever-changing and full of nuances that interact with the other notes from beginning to end. Its packaging is ideal for this liquid that seems to escape from One Thousand and One Nights. On my skin, it performs magnificently; putting it on makes me feel happy and seductive—the best way to describe it is to imagine Botticelli’s Spring.

Magical. It reminds me of childhood, though I’m not sure what: room spray, toy, dessert, shampoo… it evokes playing Donkey Kong with my cousins and fills me with nostalgia. It’s fruity, juicy, fresh, yet substantial; I’ve never smelled anything like it. I loved the review below: Botticelli’s Spring is my favorite, I agree it would be that painting but with more light. Update 23/04/2023: its projection is beastly. I don’t wear anything else and I’m getting compliments all the time. It lasts forever on clothes, even after washing. I’m buying a backup already, I’m afraid they’ll reformulate it. Without a doubt, it’s in my top 3.

Magical. It reminds me of something from my childhood, but I’m not exactly sure what: a room spray, a toy, a dessert, a shampoo, or another perfume? It brings back memories of playing Donkey Kong with my cousins. It’s fruity, juicy, and fresh, yet notably substantial; I’ve never smelled anything similar. I loved the review below because Botticelli’s Spring is my favorite work; I agree it would be that painting but with more light. Update April 23, 2023: Its projection is BEASTLY. I don’t wear anything else without getting compliments. It lasts forever on clothes, even after washing. I’m buying a backup already, I’m afraid they’ll reformulate it. Without a doubt, it’s in my top 3.

VainillaDulce, I think you’re talking about Lamar, which has the notes you mentioned.

  • VainillaDulce

@Naluapilar, hi! Yes, I know Lamar because it comes with Almaz. My description sounds weird, but on my skin, that’s exactly what I feel: not berries, but those tropical fruits I mentioned. The blackcurrants appear hours later, very shy and imperceptible.

Kajal is a mid-niche house with a French and Arab-Oriental vibe, very exclusive and ‘posh.’ Plus, there’s recently been hype around some fragrances. This Almaz is one of the few with raspberry and fruits (without the typical masculine combos with leather or oud). Maybe that’s why people see it as more feminine. In my opinion, nowadays, in a Western world where guys as old as their fathers wear Moschino Toy Boy or Baccarat Rouge 540, this is totally unisex, although I understand that for traditional noses it smells more like ‘auntie’ than ‘macho inseminator.’ Marvelous aroma, sweet without being cloying, addictive, and lasts a long time with a heavy sillage, especially at the start. The problem is the high price, niche style, and difficult accessibility (only on the Kajal website or a few places). If you get a 5-10 ml decant, you kill the impulse and have Almaz for a long time because this hits hard; two sprays are more than enough.

I’m not a huge fan of fruity scents, but I love Almaz. The opening is a fruity explosion: more than wild berries, it’s sweet, juicy tropical fruits with effervescent touches—a fresh cocktail of mango, peach, apple, and guava with lime. Then it reveals a powdery texture with creamy vanilla over caramelized wood. It’s comfortable, easy, with no drama or surprises—a safe bet for both older and younger audiences. I love its potency, longevity, and projection: it lasts hours with a moderate sillage that’s a pleasure. It’s not a diabetes-inducer, but a persistent and prudent aura. If you love Caribbean fruits with vanilla, you’ll adore it.

  • Absolute madness on the skin! I tried it as a decant and immediately wanted the full bottle. I agree with @lacasitadepan: it reminds me of something from childhood, maybe a toy or a fruity eraser… it’s wonderful. EDIT: Two years later, I finally own it, but it gives me headaches 😔. It’s a shame because I still love the scent, but I can’t take it anymore.

The Kajal house is a niche blend, half French, half Arab-Oriental, very exclusive and a bit posh. Additionally, some of their fragrances have gained hype recently. This Almaz is one of the few perfumes with raspberry and fruit notes (without the typical masculine combinations with leather or oud). Perhaps that’s why people see it as more feminine. In my opinion, nowadays, in a Western world where scents like Moschino Toy Boy or Baccarat Rouge 540 are worn even by bearded gentlemen, this is totally unisex, although I understand that for traditional noses, it smells more like ‘auntie’ than ‘inseminating male’. Wonderful aroma, sweet but not cloying, it can be addictive, lasts forever with a heavy trail, especially at the start. The problem is the high niche-style price and difficult accessibility (only sold on the Kajal website or very few sites). If you get a 5-10 ml decant, you’ll satisfy the craving and have Almaz for a long time because this sticks like glue, and two sprays are more than enough.

I love fruity perfumes; for me, this is a basket full of tropical fruits: mango, banana, passion fruit, and lots of raspberries, with plenty of sugar and vanilla. It’s creamy, super delicious. I loved it, it’s in my top 10.

  • I just received it with a gorgeous presentation, though a bit excessive with the shine and stones, and the cap is huge. At first, I sensed a sweet mandarin mixed with other fruits, then vanilla and sugar. They say it’s similar to Erba Pura, but it has a more velvet vibe. I like the velvet part of Erba Pura, but this smells more natural and has a better opening; the opening of Erba Pura felt very synthetic to me. For now, it’s a fragrance leaning more feminine in both scent and presentation.

I bought a 7€ vial at a niche boutique and I know the full bottle will be mine for my birthday in November. It’s the most fruity thing I’ve ever tried. You have to try it; words fall short. Edit: it’s already in my collection. Why wait? 😆 Life is short… It’s the only fragrance where I truly taste the brown sugar. Nothing like the one by Kayali. This is another level.

  • Spectacular to my nose: a delicious fruit cocktail. I perceive mango at the top, even though it’s not listed. The dry-down is the best: it stays fruity but the sweetness increases due to the brown sugar and vanilla, which I adore. It’s a classy fruit scent, nothing childish, with personality. Maybe there are many fruit scents today, but none as addictive. I find it sparkling, sexy, and even elegant thanks to that powdery touch sometimes. It literally screams ‘eat me.’ I tested it in decants of Lamar, Dahab, and Almaz; while Lamar seemed more invasive and I loved Dahab, with Almaz I couldn’t stop smelling myself and saw fireworks. Longevity and sillage are moderate, but I forgive it because it smells divine. I got the 100 ml bottle because I needed it, and then I’ll buy the other two from the brand. 🫠

I tried Lamar Dahab and Almaz as decants, even sprayed all three on my arms; although Lamar felt more invasive and potent, that exquisite pineapple of Dahab was a hit; I couldn’t stop smelling Almaz, it drove me crazy, and I saw fireworks. What a pleasure to return to Fragrantica and see how much attention this fragrance deserves. This is my favorite from the whole collection, along with another one. If I had to keep only two perfumes, this would be one of them. It’s intense, long-lasting, gets you tons of compliments, and the bottle is out of this world. I smell an intense tropical fruit with brown sugar giving it body. It easily beats Dahab and Lamar, to be honest. I have my bottle at 80% and need a refill because I’m scared they might reformulate it. It’s been out of stock in Chile for months. Without a doubt, a perfect perfume.

  • What a beautiful perfume: it’s tropical fruits in syrup. If you like very sweet tropical fruits, this is for you. The quality is impeccable and it’s gorgeous.

  • I tried several perfumes, and this one, along with Interdit by Jovoy, are giants in terms of longevity. I absolutely loved it: it’s fresh, incredibly rich, fruity, and has amazing performance. No doubt about it, I want this one.

  • I got a decant of Almaz and, although I knew from the start it was mine, I waited a few days to be sure. It smells fresh, sweet, and sugary with acidic citrus notes that aren’t sharp. There’s a clean musk that, mixed with the fruits, reminds me of stepping out of the shower with a luxury fruity shampoo. I love it, my circle loves it, and it’s perfect for mild or hot days. Lasts about 6 hours on skin (much longer on clothes) with moderate projection. 💚

  • Super feminine perfume, excellent quality, smells great, with excellent performance, perfect for gifting to a lady. I wouldn’t wear it myself, but I’d enjoy having it on my partner. Once again, the precedent is set of not believing what YouTube reviewers say (they’re biased), especially those selling the idea that it’s unisex. Fortunately, I tried it in a Discovery Set that comes with a sample of this same house.

  • ValeriaChile

Raspberry with brown sugar, a delight, love at first sniff. I sense it slightly milky, powdery, and the citrus touches make it more sparkly. Undoubtedly, the best acquisition.

  • Unmaskedfgr

What a charming fragrance. Fruity, sugary, and sweet (watch out with the sprays…). I don’t see any sensible comparison to Erba Pura; it takes a different path even though they share a category. Along with Lamar, these are the best from Kajal (Lamar is more elegant). I’m a forty-something man and I never get tired of receiving compliments from women. Be careful in enclosed spaces: its sweetness can project a lot and become cloying, so you need to be prudent. It’s suitable for any season, day, or night. The presentation is appropriate for the content. The bottle looks like a ‘girly’ thing, but it hints at the luxury and sophistication created by wearing it. It’s coherent. Gentlemen: I can’t imagine this for a young boy in a t-shirt and sneakers; you have to balance the feminine side with maturity and masculine bearing. Anyone who wears these ‘borderline unisex’ fragrances needs to be sure of what they’re doing and have that ‘wear what I feel like’ attitude. Otherwise, it can come across as purely feminine and the scent image will feel off. Highly recommended 100% within the sweet fruity aromas. There’s no way to go wrong with Kajal.

What a charming fragrance. Fruity, sugary, sweet (watch out with the sprays) and unique. I don’t see a sensible comparison to Erba Pura; it takes a different path, though I understand they’re in the same category and cross over in reviews for being sweet fruity scents. Along with Lamar, these are the best from Kajal (Lamar is undoubtedly more elegant). I wear them as a forty-something man and never tire of receiving feminine compliments. Be careful in enclosed spaces: its sweetness can project a lot and become cloying, so you need to be prudent. It’s for any season, day or night. The presentation seems correct; it looks like a ‘thing’ bottle for women but hints at luxury and sophistication when you spray it. It’s consistent. Gentlemen: I can’t imagine it for a young guy in a t-shirt and sneakers; for the image to make sense, you need to balance the feminine phase with maturity and masculine bearing. A man who wears these ‘borderline unisex’ fragrances has to be sure of what he’s doing and have that ‘wear what I fancy’ bearing. Otherwise, the fragrance might be perceived as purely feminine and the olfactory image will have noise. Highly recommended 100% within sweet fruity aromas. There’s no way to go wrong with Kajal.

  • Anyone saying this perfume is more feminine than masculine is right, which wasn’t a reason for me not to buy it. It has a very fresh, juicy fruity opening. As it dries down, the citrus disappears and shifts to a sweet, elegant, soft powdery floral touch. As it evolves, it develops a quite milky scent, like warm milk with vanilla, maybe almond, and that particular tonka note. I bought it for personal use but curiously it’s gotten me lots of compliments, from women and friends alike. Although the ‘isn’t that half a woman?’ comment doesn’t fail to appear, I just laughed and replied: ‘Yes, it’s unisex, but I enjoy it every time I wear it, generally on my days off or at the supermarket. If I go on a date and the girl shows up with something like this, she gets instant points.’

  • MarinaEtoile

I bought this fragrance confident I’d love it. I read every review and so many positive comments that… when it arrived, something just didn’t quite fit. It’s not that I dislike it; I can’t deny it’s a quite tasty fruity perfume, but… I sense something synthetic that I don’t love. I can’t pinpoint if it’s the brown sugar, but it’s a note that muddies the composition. The bottle isn’t my taste either, shiny silver with a loud, heavy cap. I agree it leans more feminine, though tastes vary and I’m sure it would suit a man well. Another negative is its longevity, barely 4 hours with low projection. Since I bought it in autumn, I’ll put it away until spring to see if it earns its place or if it’s another niche perfume disappointment.

  • ValeriaChile

Raspberry with brown sugar, a delight, love at first sniff. I detect a slight milky, sticky note, and the citrus touches make it more sparkly. Without a doubt, the best purchase.

  • Jaionemaite3

So rich, please. It’s fruity to the core; I’m blown away. Even though it’s cold and rainy spring here, I can’t stop wearing it despite the weather not matching because I just love it. It doesn’t matter if I get compliments or not; I just can’t stop smelling it.

  • A beautiful perfume in a jewel-like bottle, perfect for any occasion. The quality is incredible thanks to the note combination, though I wish it lasted longer on my skin. A perfect balance of fruits bathed in sugar and vanilla, sensual without being heavy or cloying. On me, it doesn’t get stuck; the citrus evaporates to reveal a playful raspberry on a sweet milky base. Feminine and silky. Although inspired by diamond, it evokes the tenderness of true love. Almaz, I can’t live without you.

  • Almaz is a fruity bomb: intense, juicy, and explosive from the first spray. It has presence, power, and a fruity sweetness that can’t be ignored. It’s a standout perfume, one that you feel and that makes an impression.
