  • It’s the same fragrance but a bit softer. Longevity is practically the same. The previous version wasn’t a bomb of longevity or projection either. There will likely be some reformulation, but I don’t find that many differences, just the bottle.

  • Alan Tapia

Agreeing with nanox7, I have 15ml of the previous version, and they last practically the same and project the same; the scent changes a bit, but you have to hold them side by side, and the difference isn’t huge. I bought a big 200ml bottle because it’s a scent I love, waiting for spring to use it.

Watch out: this is no longer the original. They reformulated it before changing the bottle in 2024. Since 2023, it’s a completely different beast. I have a 2020 batch, and it’s like having the original diluted with water—it smells the same but with only a tenth of the potency. The people praising it so much didn’t buy what most of us have; they’re talking about the early 2020 batches, not the 2022 or 2023 ones. Armani always does this: launch, get praised online, sell out, then drop the quality and potency, release a flanker, and start the cycle all over again. If you want something close to the original Profondo formula, go for the Parfum instead. 1/10

Indeed, they have reformulated this fragrance, and while it retains the DNA, it has several different nuances. I understand the intention was to improve the scent (reduce its ‘quirkiness’) and perhaps the performance, but personally, I haven’t liked it much :(. Yes, I prefer the previous formula (2020). The new one brings sweeter nuances on a slightly plasticky base; they don’t feel low quality, but rather synthetic. It seems they wanted to align the aroma with the Parfum version. At times, it reminds me a bit of Profondo Lights but lighter; other times, it has sweet-salty nuances that just don’t fit my taste. How similar is it? Yes, I’d say 70% similar, maybe with that plasticky base they added, which lasts just a bit too long. But I still stick with the original because it feels more evocative, more realistic, and a bit more aggressive—in a good way, which is what they were trying to convey: the depths of the sea.

I want to clarify that this fragrance was reformulated before the bottle change and its 2024 release. By 2023, it was already a different fragrance and remains so. With a batch from the year the original launched (2020), I can tell you that this is like having the original and adding water. It’s an ‘eau de cologne’ with one-tenth the performance of the first version. The fragrance that reviewers have praised so much isn’t what the vast majority of regular people have bought. Everyone talks about the first version’s early batches, not this one, nor the 2022 or 2023 batches of the previous version. You must keep in mind that the dynamic with Armani perfumes in recent years has been this: launch a perfume, position it online, sell it well, then reformulate it, lowering quality and potency. Then release another flanker, and the cycle repeats. Want a scent similar to the original ‘Profondo’ formula? Go for the ‘Profondo Parfum’. 1/10.

  • I absolutely love this fragrance. It shares a kinship with the original EDT but features stronger, saltier, and mineral notes. It’s a fresh, masculine scent. Perfect for the office if you’re dressed elegantly. This perfume screams elegance, cleanliness, and masculinity. Would I recommend it? Yes, if you’re one of those people. It doesn’t feel very youthful; it’s a very serious fragrance. I love it, so I’m giving it a 10/10.

  • I had been looking for the classic bottle of Profondo 2020 for a while. One day, I visited a supplier with good prices and credit options, and stumbled upon the EDP and Parfum versions. I grabbed the EDP, thinking it was the original edition I wanted. When I got home, I discovered it was actually the 2024 version. What a surprise! It smells great—fresh, with that aquatic-mineral touch and an orange base perfect for everyday wear. On my skin, it works well, but its longevity and sillage are a bit limited; I had to reapply it several times and barely noticed it on my clothes. I admit it was my fault for not checking the details before buying. Next time, I’ll use CheckFresh to verify the production date. In the end, I’m satisfied to have a fragrance that, according to many, is the most accepted version of the new reformulation. Happy with the purchase, even though it wasn’t exactly what I was looking for. Rating: 8.7/10.

Good fragrance, very fresh and masculine, with moderate longevity. Very good for daily life. The only downside is that longevity could be better for the price. 9.3/10, I liked it too much.

  • I’ve recently been using this fragrance and it has quickly become my go-to. What I love most is its freshness, with those marine notes and a touch of green mandarin that ‘revitalizes’ you instantly. It doesn’t overwhelm or fill a room, but has a just-right and elegant presence; personally ideal for the office or daily use. On my skin, longevity is excellent, accompanying me for most of the day without needing reapplication. Although it’s perfect for daily life, I also see it as suitable for a special occasion that doesn’t require a too-formal or heavy fragrance, say an important meeting. In summary, if you’re looking for something fresh, with good longevity, and extremely versatile, I recommend it wholeheartedly.

My favorite perfume within my collection; I love spraying it and smelling it all the time. It has very pronounced marine notes, it’s fresh, and for heat seasons it’s an excellent option. Although it has the DNA of the classic, it moves in a good direction with a marine touch. Without a doubt, an easy blind buy to carry and enjoy.

My favorite perfume in my collection. I love spraying it and smelling it all the time. It has very marked marine notes, it’s fresh, and for hot seasons, it’s definitely an excellent option. Although it keeps the DNA of the classic, it moves in a good direction with a marine touch. Without a doubt, an easy blind buy that anyone would enjoy.

  • I don’t know it well and hope I’m wrong, but the first time I smelled it in the store, it seemed very simple to me: marine notes with mandarin leaning towards bergamot. It’s rich, but not very potent. I understand it’s a summer scent, but there are summer eau de parfums that are incredibly strong.

  • Winner perfume, delicious, easy to wear, and energizing. Delicious aroma, marine, with metallic touches, fresh, that mandarin that adds the citrus note. It’s a rounded scent that everyone loves. That said, personally, I prefer the previous version with more pronounced marine notes; in this one, it’s noticeable that they were lowered, surely due to the people whose pH makes them smell like eggs. Projection for 2 hours, skin longevity 7 hours, the last one sillage.

  • Holy mother of God, what a masterpiece of perfume, it’s a delight. Just arrived, I’ve been eyeing it for months and finally got it. I’d forgotten its rich, elegant, and fresh scent, yet I still bet on it. To the point: it feels more elegant. It’s not for a beach day; I’d say more for summer nights. It’s also very good for daily life, outings with friends, or even a date. I don’t think it’s the best option when it’s too hot because of that elegant touch; I see it for weather up to 28 degrees. Above that temperature, I feel it would be too stifling, unless you’re in air conditioning. Speaking of elegant, it’s not a perfume for teenagers. Very rich, elegant, versatile, and fresh all at once.

  • JohnLecter86

Unfortunately, I couldn’t get the previous version, but this one feels great: fresh and elegant beyond measure. Its opening is very citrusy, truly worth it, perfect for professional settings. Although the Acqua di Gio line isn’t exactly cheap, I guarantee it’s worth it; I grabbed a 200ml bottle and have zero regrets. While it’s not my signature scent, it will be part of my special perfumes. If you like the Acqua di Gio line, this is definitely for you; if not, maybe you’d go for more affordable proposals from the same master perfumer, Morillas, like his recent CK One Essence. They aren’t identical, but they transmit the vibe only he can. If you have a generous budget, every spray is worth it.

  • JavierPerfumista

I have a special affection for this one. I bought it in spring 2024, and it became my first gem in the collection. I truly couldn’t have chosen better. I was looking for something summery with its own essence, far from typical youthful lemons like CK One or Light Blue. I also didn’t want the original AdG because it felt a bit boring for what I was seeking, so I landed on this. Acqua di Gio Profondo keeps that rich Italian summering-in-Sicily-with-a-boat spirit, but it has that aquatic, marine click that gives the original a spark. In my opinion, it’s the perfect balance: the Parfum version isn’t as fresh anymore and starts to smell heavy on me. Damn, I want to smell long-lasting and fresh, but not so heavy on an August 13th. It lasts well on skin, just don’t overdo it in enclosed spaces because it gave me a headache; otherwise, it’s exactly what I was looking for. Want a perfume to stroll through Rome’s Trastevere in a sky-blue shirt with your partner, smelling of the sea even if you’re 100km from the coast? Buddy, this is your cologne.

I have a special affection for this perfume. I bought it in the spring of 2024, and it was the first gem in my (small, modest) collection. I couldn’t have chosen better. I wanted a summer perfume, but one with its own essence, moving away from typical lemon-scented perfumes for young people, like CK One or Light Blue. Also, I didn’t want to buy the original AdG because it seemed a bit bland (not to say it’s bad) for what I wanted, so I fell for this one. Acqua di Gio Profondo maintains that rich Italian spirit of someone vacationing in Sicily with a boat for leisurely rides, but it has that aquatic and marine click that gives it a spark the original lacks. In my opinion, this is the perfect balance because the Parfum version no longer has as much freshness and ends up smelling heavy on me. Damn, I want to smell durable and fresh, but not so heavy on an August 13th. It holds up well on skin, doesn’t become overpowering if you’re in an enclosed space because it gave me a headache; otherwise, it’s exactly what I was looking for. Want a perfume for strolling through Trastevere in Rome with your sky-blue shirt and your partner, but with that little ocean scent even if you’re 100km from the nearest coast? Friend, this is your cologne.

  • Rich for the heat and daily routine; a top-tier option for the office. Super versatile, definitely an excellent choice.

Clean, simple, and easy to wear without being cheesy. A fresh-sweet scent where the marine opening stands out with a very light touch of tangerine. On skin, rosemary comes alive and adds richness to the sweetness; as it dries down, cedar and musk balance everything out, leaving a clean, effortless fragrance perfect for standing out in summer.

  • Jorge Fonseca

It smells clean and well-made, easy to use without falling into clichés. It’s a fresh-sweet scent with a strong marine projection and a very light touch of tangerine. On skin, the rosemary develops and gives life to the sweetness; as it dries down, the cedar and musk balance it out. It results in a clean, easy-to-wear perfume ready to stand out in summer.

  • I like it more than the original for one reason: they really tried to make sure the reformulation didn’t have that rotten egg smell that many said the previous Profondo had. It feels less heavy and more fresh, but it’s still the same Profondo in general.

  • I think I like it more than the original for one special reason: they really tried to make sure the reformulation didn’t have that rotten egg smell that many mentioned about the previous Profondo. It feels less heavy and fresher, but it’s still Profondo in general.

  • julialmiron

I just bought it; it doesn’t last long but it smells rich and pleasant. It has 40% ADG Parfum and the rest are marine/salty notes. I hope it improves over time so I can recommend it more highly.

  • thecutestmouseintheworld

I’ll be brief since everything has already been said: it’s simply the best designer marine perfume. A bit classic and mature, but still versatile for any age. If I had to buy just one ADG, it would definitely be this Profondo EDP. Scent: 9.5/10, Longevity: 7/10, Projection: 7/10, Quality: 9/10, Originality: 8/10, Price: 8/10.

  • ChukiTrucco

I tested it in the evenings during vacation and I got hooked. At first it didn’t convince me, but over time I’ve come to like it more. It’s basically the ADN of Acqua di Giò with that classic ‘blue’ profile; it reminds me a lot of Y EDP. The sillage is moderate for the first hour and then drops quickly; on skin it lasts about 4 hours.

  • Clarification: I’m referring to the new 2024 bottle. Although Fragrantica has its own listing, many people comment on the original 2020 version (the discontinued blue bottle). My favorite was Profondo Lights, a limited edition that’s almost impossible to find. Looking for something for summer at a department store, I bought it blind without testing, knowing it had been reformulated and hoping they fixed what didn’t work in the original. The opening changes a lot: in 2020 it was strong, coarse, mineral, and sharp; in 2024 it’s more alcoholic and light, as if they removed that metallic part. The performance is much lighter; although the original DNA appears after a few minutes, it’s so delicate that in 3 or 4 hours (or less) there’s no trace left. The sillage is low, even with several sprays. I see it as suitable for someone looking for something light, fresh, and masculine, a huge fan of the brand, willing to reapply every 3 hours in extreme heat. In autumn and winter, it has nothing to offer. I wouldn’t buy it again; the performance is far from its price, and I don’t recommend it at full retail.

  • The 2024 Profondo version feels like they toned down the marine notes and added some sweetness, making it more versatile than the previous one, which was more mineral. In terms of longevity and sillage, with 5-6 hours, it’s good; you can’t ask more from something fresh and versatile. It’s a delicious scent that I love and it just suits you perfectly.

  • After wearing it for two days, I have to say this 2024 version isn’t worth it. The performance is terrible; you have to spray it about 20 times to get it to last 2 or 3 hours, and then it’s barely skin-scent. Currently, the only Acqua di Gio worth buying and that I recommend is the original line or the 2024 Parfum version.

  • Daniel Govea

So rich! It’s one of the sexiest modern aquatic scents out there. It starts super vibrant and fresh with tangerine and full-on aquatic notes; then the tangerine fades to reveal a more mineral aroma with rosemary and lavender. The drydown is incredibly sexy and masculine, keeping that modern touch that sets it apart from previous versions like the classic original. The major flaw is that longevity is a disaster: it projects decently at first but fades incredibly fast, maybe one or two hours of projection, then stays skin-scent for no more than two or three hours before disappearing completely. What a shame because the scent is spectacular. It still seems worth it to me, since you can always reapply with a decant, but that’s up to each person. It’s my signature scent and I’ll probably keep wearing it until it runs out.
