To me, Vanille Soleil tries to be an Ilio by Diptyque, even though the notes don’t quite match up. The overall scent is very similar: soft vanilla and ylang-ylang that smell like sunscreen, with a floral touch that keeps it from being cloying. It’s a summer fragrance, though nothing as complex as Ilio (which, for me, evokes nostalgia and past summers—something incomparable and deeply personal). In terms of value, it holds its own against the brand. I see it as perfect for tossing in your bag for summer, a true perfume treat. If you’re looking for scents that smell like summer (specifically beach and sunscreen): Ilio, of course; Lust for Sun by Juliette has a Gun; and the new La Playa by Carner Barcelona. Latin Lover, also by Carner, works great for summer, though it differs a bit from those classic beach and sunscreen notes.
