Mon Guerlain Florale by Guerlain

This is the Mon that lasts the longest for me. Very elegant, clean scent that stays on skin for over 8 hours and much longer on clothes. It brings me total peace.

While it’s a beautiful scent, honestly, I feel like it’s a luxury baby powder cologne, just a bit more intense but with that classic post-shower essence that doesn’t surprise me. It’s not for my collection; I’m looking for something more unique to me, though it’s ideal for those who don’t like wearing heavy perfume. I bought it for the price and it reminds me of 4711 or baby powders. I wouldn’t buy it again, not even the original; it seems like a mistake. It’s just a soft cologne.

I finally got it in a 100ml clearance sale after hesitating a lot. I walked in just to smell it and found it was half the price of the classic Mon. I love both, but this one is more versatile: the lavender is balanced, the iris adds a subtle powdery touch, and the vanilla finishes perfectly without being sweet. Delicate aroma, feminine, suitable for all seasons, casual wear or events. If you don’t like the Mon because of the lavender, try this if it’s still available…

My first impression is that it’s not another Mon Guerlain EDP. I couldn’t find much difference; for a moment, I thought I’d been scammed, but the bottle says ‘Florale’. What is Florale? The opening of lavender and vanilla is identical, same profile, maybe just a bit lower due to the lack of amber in the original. Florale intensifies the iris and white flowers, making it more powdery and less sharp. I spent the afternoon comparing one on each wrist, and the only thing I noticed is that Florale is softer, lighter, and doesn’t last as long. Maybe that’s its appeal: it’s not as strong or polarizing. But for me, it loses part of the essential charm of the Mon, which is the lavender, vanilla, and amber base. This flanker seems like an EDT or a ‘whisper,’ a different version of the EDP. My recommendation: don’t hunt too hard for this discontinued flanker. As I say in my reviews, the original is still the best. If you want more vanilla, try the Intense; if you want less lavender and more sweetness, try the EDT. Although I like Florale, it’s because I like the original, which it’s not very different from.

A friend passed me a decant of the EDP, and I tried it. I find it much sweeter than the classic: the opening smells like candy, caramel, or fruit gummies. I don’t understand where that comes from, not even like bergamot candy. After a few minutes, the characteristic lavender does appear, but it seems they took away the green side that makes the classic special. The florals are submerged in the background, tinting the mix. Then it doesn’t change much: the lavender gives way to a sweet, dry vanilla with a velvety, sparkling, and earthy effect, different from the dark sweetness of the first one. After 3-4 hours, the family becomes noticeable, but this one is less green. That intermediate moment reminds me of Ilía Secreto by Natura: Ilía opens with grape and highlights the tonka bean; Mon Guerlain Florale is more complex, drier, with more sandalwood, but with a similar vibe.

I’m obsessed with this version. I wore it today on a fresh spring day and it feels similar to the original but more floral. The dry down is pure lavender and vanilla with a powdery touch on my skin. I love feminine perfumes with lavender, and this is no exception.

Floral, delicate, elegant, much more so than Mon Guerlain in my opinion. The lavender, sandalwood, and vanilla stand out. It gives a powdery sensation. Extremely feminine. Good trail and longevity; on skins that carry dense perfumes well, it can leave a feeling of freshness. On me, although I always wear lighter and fresher things, within its strength it evoked a warm late afternoon sun illuminating a lavender field.

I love it, much better than the original Mon Guerlain. The peony floral touch and the rest of the flowers make this perfume exquisite. Not as strong or sober as Mon Guerlain, and I like the base notes in Florale more. Fine, elegant, tender, delicate… The sillage is impressive, and what about the bottle: it’s a masterpiece.

Good longevity on my skin. I’d love to own it. I see it as very versatile and suitable for any time of year. It’s a delight.
