At first, I get an oud-amber vibe. By 4 hours, sandalwood really stands out. At 9 hours, it’s a patchouli-sandalwood combo. By 12 hours, it’s frankincense and sandalwood. It’s a woody, spicy fragrance that delivers. The trail is heavy to moderate; using almost the entire sample, it lasts over 12 hours. I see this as a winter or cold-weather scent, great for daytime wear, and it has a fairly linear development.

  • It’s the same or nearly identical to Dunhill Desire Red, very similar to Desire Blue and akin to Nikos Sculpture. If you like those and want something higher quality, go for it—it’s a dupe.

I’ve worn it for several days from a decant, and it feels both pleasant and mature. The sandalwood is very prominent at the start, combined with a subtle oud in the background. Longevity isn’t bad at all; I wore it at night and still detected something the next day. In my opinion, it’s for people aged 35-40 due to that maturity and strength; I can’t imagine a 20-year-old wearing this. It’s very linear; the initial sandalwood stays with you until the end. Better suited for fall-winter, and 3-4 sprays are enough to avoid overwhelming those around you. I don’t think it would be pleasant in summer heat. It’s not for everyone; if you’re not used to strong scents, it might be a ‘not for me,’ so test it first. Today it’s available at a good price online, almost like a designer perfume.

Lasts 12 hours on skin with 8-9 hours of projection. Five sprays are enough for the whole day. It’s an oud-vetiver combo, very fresh with a subtle hint of incense. Smells herbal and woody with strong presence. By 6-7 hours, it evolves into something cleaner, like a barbershop scent. I recommend it for the office, outdoor daytime wear, or morning events. I use it from fall through winter (and at night year-round).

Lasts 12 hours on skin, projecting 8 or 9. Five sprays last me all day. It’s that oud-vetiver combo, very fresh with a subtle touch of incense. Smells herbal and woody with strong presence. After 6-7 hours, it evolves into something cleaner, like a barbershop aroma. I recommend it for the office, outdoor daytime wear, or morning events. • I think it’s a really good perfume with excellent performance. It’s fresh with just the right touch of sweetness. I see it as super versatile, perfect for day or night. Great value for a Montale—I bought it blind and have zero regrets.

  • I’m not sure if it’s vetiver or sandalwood, but that note hits hard and is enjoyable, though to me it smells like ammonia and very synthetic. It’s beast mode. At first, I was disgusted but couldn’t stop smelling it; it had something special. Now I recognize it in other perfumes and appreciate it, even though I don’t see myself wearing it. If you like it, try Amouage Reflection; it’s more refined, has that note but less aggressive, and paired with other notes that make it exquisite.

It’s not a masterpiece, the opening is a bit sharp, but then it settles into a pleasant scent. You can definitely detect the oud in the background. Longevity is good without being excessive.

  • Excellent perfume; at first, the oud is very prominent, but then the scent takes on a very pleasant strength. It has great longevity and projects well. It reminds me of Bond 9’s Lafayette, though they have completely different olfactive pyramids.

Smells great, but personally I think the listed notes aren’t the original ones or something’s off, because I can’t find the oud or the stones, nor the balsam; it’s just pure sandalwood and little else. That said, it smells amazing among the few Montales you can buy blind.

Wonderful fragrance! Fresh, woody, earthy, rich, and highly versatile. It has a special charm.

What a fragrance! Fresh, woody, earthy, rich, and super versatile. It has a unique charm.

Spectacular. Although I must admit I smelled this DNA/aromatic profile for the first time in Dunhill Désire Red from 2000, and later in Dunhill Désire Blue from 2003.

  • My first niche perfume was this great fragrance: it’s good, smells high-quality, but… if it resembles Bond NO.9 too much. Setting that aside, it lasts and projects amazingly; the opening is super powerful as is customary for Montale, then it drops and settles comfortably on the skin. It’s a scent people like, quite easy to wear, I’d say a pleasant DNA, like a barbershop smell. In my opinion, I wouldn’t recommend it because it’s not a unique scent, but if that’s not an issue for you, go ahead, it’s a good perfume.

  • After two years of enjoying this scent and buying my second bottle, I’m reviewing Wood and Spices. As its name suggests, it’s a woody fragrance with a subtle, non-intrusive oud note, more of a medicinal halo that makes it acceptable for most. Although not listed, I perceive a citrus facet with bergamot, spices like pepper and coriander, and a white floral side. The balsamic aspect might come from an added resin, like benzoin. Wood and Spices doesn’t have a major note evolution, but everything is very well balanced. The woody and incense profile weighs more as it dries. The woody work leans it towards masculine; the warm incense smoke and the aromatic, spicy freshness make it incredibly versatile for all seasons, except in extreme cold or heat. Informal and semi-formal situations, but not for very active sports or work if you prefer discretion. The performance is no issue: 8 hours with 5-6 sprays, projects a meter for the first hour and gradually reduces to a subtle halo. With few sprays or summer heat, its performance drops a bit. Regarding similarities, without being identical, it follows the path of the unreformulated Sculpture, Lafayette Street, or Tenerife… but this Montale maintains its own personality, being the most versatile of all. Plus, it will give you good vibes and earn compliments others wouldn’t. Although original composition isn’t its strong suit, if you don’t know other fragrances and are looking for a quality niche woody scent with oriental nuances at a fair price, I confirm Wood and Spices is highly recommended. As always, don’t just go by the rating and test any niche perfume on your skin before buying.

  • I’ve been enjoying this scent for two years and bought my second bottle of Wood and Spices. As the name suggests, it’s clearly woody with a soft oud note, more of a medicinal halo that makes it acceptable for almost everyone. Although they won’t say it, I detect a citrus touch with bergamot, spices like pepper and coriander, and a white floral base. The balsamic aspect might come from some resin, like benzoin. It doesn’t evolve much, but everything is very well balanced. The woody and incensey notes dominate when it dries down. The woodiness leans it toward masculine. The warm, non-religious incense, combined with the aromatic freshness and spice, makes it extremely versatile for all seasons, except in extreme cold or heat. It works for informal and semi-formal situations, but not for intense sports or work if you don’t like discretion. The performance is top-notch: 8 hours with 5 or 6 sprays, projecting a meter for the first hour before gradually fading to a subtle personal halo. With few sprays or summer heat, it drops a bit. Regarding similarities, although it’s not the same, it follows the path of the unreformulated Lafayette Street Sculpture or Tenerife… but this Montale has its own personality and is the most versatile of all. Plus, it gives off good vibes and earns compliments others don’t. Although originality isn’t its strong suit, if you’re looking for a quality niche woody scent with oriental nuances at the right price, Wood and Spices is a highly recommended option. As I always say, don’t just go by the rating; always test on skin before buying.

It’s exactly the same scent as Nikos Sculpture. A shame about the declared notes here, but the performance is excellent.

  • Canary Scent

Total disappointment compared to Nikos Sculpture in dry-down; it smells and feels identical, at least in my two bottles. I see reviews based on notes that don’t match the actual scent of Wood and Spices. Oud? My god… They are identical when dry; I left them overnight and there’s no difference, only the Montale one is slightly more noticeable. If I’d known, I wouldn’t have spent the 90€ on this Montale. For me, it’s a disappointment: I do like it, but the similarity and the price difference… Oh my. With all due respect, go for the Nikos, skip this one. I’m listing the official Montale notes to see what you think about this smelling like oud when it doesn’t even carry it. Talking nonsense without knowing anything, ruining this page and the wonderful world of fragrances. Top notes: Bergamot, Mandarin, Black Pepper. Heart notes: Orange Blossom, Genista, Sage. Base notes: Amber, Tobacco, Tonka Bean, Vanilla, Teak Wood, Musk. Cheers.
