I really liked the fragrance. It’s earthy, dry, and the fig is herbaceous, not sweet at all. The only problem—I don’t know if it’s the fragrance itself or how it reacts with my skin—is that it DOESN’T LAST AT ALL. I have dozens of Zara fragrances and I know that some have terrible longevity, but in general the Jo Malone ones are pretty decent. Not this one. With Zara, I’ve seen that changing the batch makes the fragrance perform better or worse. I hope it was just bad luck, because I certainly loved it.
I highly recommend this new Zara fragrance (The Art Of Becoming collection by Jo Malone), or at least I invite you to try it. If you like Philosykos by Diptyque, you’ll love this one—I’m not exaggerating in the slightest. Zara’s Terra Profonda by Jo Malone is somewhat more earthy; it’s as if it had an undeclared vetiver note in the background and a more woody base than Philosykos. If you like a fig note that’s darker than the traditional ones, you’re already taking too long; truly, it’s a sensational launch. It’s unquestionably a blind buy, and instead of getting the 30 ml bottle, don’t hesitate and go for the 100 ml, because here you’re completely safe. The 30 ml bottle costs €15.95 and the 100 ml one costs €29.95. Ideal for all four seasons and for any situation, unless it’s very formal or requires wearing a suit, for example; in that case, other fragrances fulfill that role better, but for everything else… Mastercard or Terra Profonda 🤭 The longevity, for Zara, is not bad at all: about 6-7 hours on skin. Zara unfortunately brings out many pointless fragrances, but when it hits the mark you have to say it, and here it redeems itself 100%. If any of us were at a blind tasting, Terra Profonda would almost certainly be passed off as a niche. I’m not a great lover of Jo Malone perfumes because I consider them very feminine, but here: chapeau. Perfumón 💯
Something very strange happens to me with this fragrance: I find it hard to describe what it smells like, because to me it smells a lot like earth, with a very, very faint green background—just enough to give it body. I don’t detect the sea salt. Then there’s something slightly creamy in the background, also very faint, which I suppose is the fig. As for performance, it seems like it won’t last, but it stays around for quite a few hours; don’t expect a bomb: it projects well for the first 3-4 hours, and then it’s skin scent until hour 7. Sometimes I moved my hand (2 sprays) and caught the waft. Would I buy it? Well, I don’t know. For me, of all the fig fragrances I know, the one I like most so far is alluring fig (even though this one is more fig leaf), but that one is more luminous; this one from Zara is more earthy.
The other day I went to cut the branches of a fig tree at my mother’s house that were already reaching over to the neighbor’s house. I ended up covered in sawdust. That’s what it smells like: the fig tree, its trunk, its leaves, raw, but in a damp little forest. I was going for the fig—the fruit—but this fragrance doesn’t have it, so I didn’t buy it. It smells good and interesting, but I don’t see myself wearing it. Try it before buying it.
