It’s sweet and sturdy, then the leather comes out. In the dry down, it smells a bit like Paco Rabanne’s 1 Million, but only once you’ve worn it and accepted it. What matters isn’t whether you’re rich or handsome, but what the fragrance does to you; this one changes my attitude and gives me a positive boost. It’s not my absolute favorite, but I keep it in my collection for all-day wear. I only spray it on the sides of my neck and on clothes because it’s strong at first and overwhelms the nose quickly. Everyone has their point, but for me, it’s a 7.5.
The opening is a citrus beast: lemon and grapefruit at full speed, with saffron giving it that spicy note that makes it stand out. The ginger heart is addictive, and the lavender with sage adds a clean touch, perfect for a suit or a wedding. The base with leather, amber, and cedar makes it special, sweet and woody in just the right measure for young people to use. Ideal for autumn and winter, at night, to start conversations and leave a mark. It’s spectacular when you sweat and is the key to a couple’s night.
What a marvel of versatility this amber note is! It can be so romantic and feminine, but here it goes hand in hand with ginger and grapefruit to become an expression of masculinity. It’s sophisticated but not boring, suitable for many occasions, from the most elegant to informal outings. The trail and longevity are moderate; it neither enchants nor disappoints in that regard. Recommended! I’m glad it sells so well, as I see every time I go to the perfumery.
The opening is a citrus bomb with lemon and grapefruit at full throttle, while the saffron adds that spicy touch that makes it complex. The ginger heart is addictive, and the lavender-sage blend gives it an impeccable vibe, perfect for work or a wedding. Down below, the leather feels sweet alongside amber and cedar, creating a woody base just right for young people to enjoy. It’s perfect for autumn and winter, at night, to spark conversations and leave a mark. It’s incredible when you sweat and is the key to an unforgettable couple’s night.
I tested it yesterday, and for me, it’s too sweet and somewhat generic. The blend of notes creates a very rounded effect where the olfactory pyramid never quite defines itself. It reminds me of one of Hugo Boss’s scents. It has strength, and its presence is notable for those who like impactful sweet fragrances. The trail and longevity are moderate.
I was really eager to try it, but it was a total disappointment. At first, it’s citrusy and strong, which I appreciated, but later on my skin it turns into a cloying smell. I managed to smell coffee, leather, and something that seemed like plastic, all extremely sweet. For me, the blend gave the sensation of smelling a burnt mango; maybe it was my pH or the store temperature was too high, but it was a bad experience that made me nauseous.
I was eager to try it, but it was a total letdown. At first, the strong citrus note seemed pleasant, but later on my skin, it turned into a very strong and cloying odor. I managed to detect something that smelled like coffee, leather, and plastic, all extremely sweet to the point of being overwhelming. The blend of notes gave me the sensation of smelling a burnt frying pan mango; maybe it was my pH or the store temperature was too high, but it was a bad experience that made me nauseous.
After the fiasco of Ralph Lauren’s Polo Red, I decided to give this a shot. Its name ‘Intense’ made me think of something spicier and stronger, but they have nothing in common. How to describe it? There are perfumes that smell like specific things: makeup, rubber, incense, vanilla, etc. If that was the perfumer’s goal, well done; if it was accidental, some will like it and others won’t. Polo Red Intense smells like caramel, specifically those super-sweet hard candies of various colors that used to come in paper wrappers (here in Argentina they’re famous as ‘YAPA’). It smells half caramel, half syrup. It’s not bad, but it’s not my style, and I expected something darker, sober, and refined, more nocturnal and daring. It’s neither good nor bad, it’s very particular, and taste is subjective. It gives me a very ‘innocent,’ youthful feeling, like vanilla body splashes for teenagers. It works well for the Polo Red crowd, very young people; on someone over 18, it would be a mistake. I recommend trying it if you like cloying fragrances; it could be a hit. Scent: 8/10 for being unique. I don’t evaluate trail or longevity because I didn’t like it and it feels linear. Price: 4/10.
I tested it two months ago and liked it, but I let myself be swayed by the idea of buying Man in Black by Bvlgari, which is what I ended up doing. This week, testing it again, that intense sweet explosion made me fall in love all over again. I love the intense and sweet opening, though you have to be careful with the amount to avoid overwhelming. As it dries down, the intensity lowers and it becomes a very pleasant scent, although it loses projection. The sweetness never goes away for me, and what I’d like is for it to last longer; sometimes after hours, I can hardly smell it, maybe it’s my nose. In its lower mid-stage, it reminds me a little of La Nuit de Ives Saint Laurent. For now, it’s a fragrance I’d buy again and it’s the first Ralph Lauren I own. Edit: I’ve been wearing it for weeks and now I notice the citrus better; mixed with the sweetness, they’re delicious. Before I said I couldn’t smell it after an hour, but at work I clearly notice it after several hours.
One of the fragrances with the best longevity and a fantastic trail. It’s fruity, sweet, and spicy; the ginger is noticeable, giving it a touch of class. If you like to stand out and have everyone turn around to see who’s wearing that scent, this is the one for you; you won’t go unnoticed. This should have been the original Polo Red. An EDP that truly deserves that designation. Excellent.
In my opinion, it’s a good perfume, though it can indeed be cloying.
Polo Red Intense is fruity, sweet, and packed with amber notes. From the opening through almost the entire development, it smells like red berries; Fragrantica says they’re blueberries, and you can definitely detect saffron. Then other notes kick in, like amber, leather, and ginger, which are the most prominent. In this version, I couldn’t smell the coffee note like I do in the regular Polo Red. It’s cheerful and pleasant, more linear and less complex than the first version. It will surely appeal to both young and not-so-young people. Its main flaw is poor performance: although it starts off frenetic with intense sweetness, it fades very quickly to the skin. On me, the longevity lasted about 10 hours, but very close to the skin; it probably lasts longer on clothes. Rich aroma, but with better performance, it would be even more attractive.
I was gifted it and I like it quite a bit, although upon trying it, I wouldn’t have bought it because the top notes are too sweet for me. Luckily, later the coffee and leather take over and lower the initial berry syrup smell. What I value most is that, unlike others in the same style, it doesn’t use vanilla or tonka to be sweet, but fruity notes, achieving differentiation. It’s a good option at an appropriate price (not the one they charge in my country for RL). PS: sometimes it reminds me of Diesel Fuel For Life, being the Polo a slightly more adult version.
Polo Red Intense is fruity, sweet, and ambered. From the start, it smells of red berries, probably blueberries, and you can detect the saffran. Then come the amber, leather, and ginger, the most prominent notes; in this version, I didn’t smell the coffee like in the regular one. It’s cheerful, pleasant, more linear, and less complex than the previous one. It will probably please young people and not so much others. Its flaw is the performance: it starts frenetic and sweet but drops very fast to skin level, lasting about 10 hours on skin, though it might last longer on clothes. Rich aroma, but with better performance it would be more attractive.
I was gifted this and I like it quite a bit, though honestly, upon first spritz, I wouldn’t have bought it because I’d have discarded the sample due to the opening notes, which are too sweet for my taste. Luckily, shortly after, the coffee and leather notes take over and the initial berry syrup smell fades. It’s the opposite for me: I usually like many fragrances at first, but after a while, they drift into a generic base that makes them smell like any other hundred. What I really appreciate is that, unlike most fragrances in this style launched in recent years, it doesn’t rely on vanilla or tonka to achieve sweetness, but rather uses a fruity note, setting it apart from the competition. I think it’s a good option (at a fair price, not the one charged in my country for RL). PS: At some points during its development throughout the day, it reminds me a lot of a fragrance I owned and used often, Diesel Fuel For Life, making Polo feel like a slightly more adult version.
Out of all Polo versions, this is the absolute queen: it blends formal, casual, and sporty vibes with a super youthful touch. I love it and recommend it to guys aged 21 to 36. I think it deserves a mature version for older men because it’s both mature and youthful at the same time; it would be a shame not to wear it at 40. I’m 23, but realistically, I wouldn’t advise it for anyone over 40. The coffee mixed with citrus, fruits, and amber scent is incredible. It’s a must-have fragrance that outshines Polo Red, and without a doubt, Polo Blue Eau de Parfum takes the crown (no competition, just a recommendation). Cheers from Panama.
I love it, but I feel it doesn’t last long and has almost no projection. How many sprays should I put on my body or clothes for good performance?
Sweet, sweet, sweet. Using it on hot days is a killer; it smells quite good and on me it lasts around 8 hours with a nice trail.
Sweet blueberries… I love its opening phase, a sweet-and-sour combo with very subtle touches of coffee, chocolate, and leather, which practically persist for their fleeting 5 hours. Its resemblance to 1 Million Intense is spot on, though I prefer each one at different times of day and seasons: Polo for warm, daytime wear, and 1 Million Intense for night and cooler days. However, this Polo can be skipped due to its low projection and short longevity. P.S. Price is another factor that makes it not a must-buy.
I’m reviewing this delight again. I got it, I MENTIONED IT :D. I needed Polo Red Intense to have a more mature, manageable range, and it delivered. See you in my review of the new Polo Red Extreme 2017; this will remain my favorite, but with the Extreme, I reached a point where I didn’t want to lose it.
I only tested a couple of samples and loved them… but they smelled very similar to Azzaro Wanted… I bought the second one and I absolutely loved it!
A pleasant but excessively sweet fragrance. I’ve been using it for two years, and honestly, I’ve lost a bit of the taste for it over time. It doesn’t sit well on hot days. Also, its longevity on my skin is very short; I’d say it doesn’t last more than 2 hours.
Intense fragrance with bold, magnetic spices from the start… condiment notes like saffron, pepper, and sage, with very faint citrus. Over time, leather and dark coffee mixed with the dark fruity notes of blueberry come through. Wood and amber give it body and a bit of sweetness, though honestly, I perceive it as more woody and spicy than sweet. It feels serious, substantial, and a bit smoky. Ideal for formal use or to stand out. It reminds me a bit of Givenchy Only Intense.
Intense, with bold and magnetic spices from the start: saffron, pepper, sage, and very subtle citrus. As hours pass, the leather and a dark coffee mixed with dark blueberries emerge. The wood and amber give it body and sweetness, but honestly, I don’t feel it’s sweet; rather, it’s woody and spicy. I find it serious, well-bodied, and a bit smoky. For formal use or to make a statement. It brings me memories of Givenchy Only Intense.
A rich, sweet, spicy, and fruity fragrance. It starts fruity and sweet, but after 5 hours it becomes spicier and finishes with a cosmetic cream scent—nothing unpleasant. I recommend it for autumn and winter. Four sprays are more than enough, so the bottle lasts a long time. I’ve received many compliments from women over 40, though those under 30 haven’t liked it as much. Conversely, men of all ages have complimented me.
This was my first Polo, and at first, I liked it more than the Extreme because of that citrusy-berry note and that very subtle coffee touch. The longevity is acceptable (over 5 hours) and it smells great. Later, when I started preferring the coffee scent, I bought the Extreme. For me, these two are the favorites of Polo Red. I see it less and less in stores; maybe it’s being discontinued.
Exquisite fragrance. I wasn’t convinced at first, but I ended up loving it over time. Too bad they’re no longer selling it.
It’s a fruity, exquisite perfume, and its performance isn’t bad, though not standout. I think it’s a good option to step out of the citrus or overly sweet territory. Unfortunately, I believe it’s discontinued and hard to find, but it’s worth it.
Polo Red Intense: First off, I don’t find it sweet… due to its construction, it gives that impression, but I consider it a perfumery coincidence. The amber and coffee actually make it feel more fresh, woody, aromatic, and warm than sweet. This fragrance is a night driver; that’s its purpose, and that’s where it settles like a fish in water—it’s its natural habitat. It can even be worn on spring nights, although freshness and cold are its natural allies. A fruity fragrance with grapefruit, ginger, leather, amber, and coffee as its main architectural notes. It’s pleasant to wear, different, and I think it’s a Western scent that leans into the oriental side; it can work for a date and a pretentious display of intimacy. I liked it, found it on sale, so I didn’t pass it up. Rumor has it it’s discontinued, so if you find a good deal, it’s worth it. By the way, I don’t see any resemblance to One Million, neither in its dry-down nor in any other phase. Scent: 8.0. Projection: 2 hours. Longevity: 8 hours (5 hours close to the skin). Recommended at a max of $40.
The scent of this perfume is delicious; it’s very gourmand, one of those I like sometimes. I love the blueberry note combined with a delicious coffee aroma. The wonderful scent of this perfume makes me unable to take my nose off my arm. I don’t find it similar to any other fragrance on the market. What I absolutely hate is the sillage and longevity, which are very poor for an eau de parfum. It’s truly a horrible disappointment in this regard; it’s not worth buying because to feel it, you need to spray a quarter of the bottle every time you use it. Still, a delicious aroma.
A rich, warm, and spicy scent 😋. It has excellent performance; it’s a spicy aroma that isn’t annoying at all since it blends with citrus notes, making it a fragrance of the gods 😍🕉️. Love at first sniff 😂😂. Highly recommended 1000×1000 🕉️🕉️🕉️.
After many years of searching for this unfortunately discontinued perfume, I finally found it at a great price and added it to my collection. I remember testing it years ago whenever I visited a perfumery; its scent and intensity were mesmerizing, but I never made the decision to buy it… If you know and like the Polo Red DNA, in my opinion, this is the best one. I’ve tried practically all of them (the only one I can’t recall trying is Red Rush), and regarding aroma, it ties with the EDP, but in performance, it surpasses it by a mile. The batch I got is from 2015, and it’s a marvel—it lasts days on clothes and over 10 hours on skin without issues. I remember it being intense, but not to this extent. Head-to-head with the new Red Parfum… while it’s rich too, I stick with the Intense. As I said, in performance, it crushes everyone in the Red line, including the Extreme, which I also owned and found quite overrated. It’s a versatile perfume, suitable for day and night except in intense heat; I see it as ideal for mild climates or summer evenings.
A true fragrance beast…
An absolute beast of a scent… You can really taste the blueberry throughout the dry down. I’ve rarely smelled a fragrance this good in my life. It has two flaws: it’s been discontinued (the closest thing is POLO RED EDP, but the performance is a joke), and the performance is below average (although for me it has good longevity, the projection is skin-scent for most of its life).
Hi! I managed to get two bottles; I absolutely love the Polo Red line. Does anyone know what year it was discontinued? Or if it went through a reformulation?

There are two fragrances that are very similar (not identical, but they share the same DNA: fruity, with that clean laundry-day touch and sweet without being cloying, adding clean woods): Polo Red Parfum has better performance and longevity. It’s fruity, with a bitter yet sweet note, clean, bold, and musky. Gisada Ambassador Intense is sweet, fruity, with lavender, patchouli, red berries, and licorice root. It has a very similar vibe, projects well, and lasts a long time. There are many dupes online; I highly recommend the 8488 from Perfumare.
