  • I’ve tried it a couple of times and still haven’t quite figured it out; the cold weather probably isn’t helping. Just to clarify, this isn’t a diluted version of the classic Orphéon; they’re two completely different perfumes, and I don’t understand why Diptyque would use the same name. It’s very sharp and citrusy at first, smelling of juicy grapefruit with a rich, bitter edge. As it dries down, it turns green and soapy, but without that powdery talciness of the EDP; it smells like a sharp green bar of soap, sometimes with fig leaf notes, green and bitter. Objectively, it smells great and it’s hard to dislike, but it hasn’t fully convinced me yet. Maybe it will show other facets in the heat. Still, I recommend trying it because many people might absolutely love it.

I’ve been a Diptyque fan forever, but the Orphéon EDP never really caught my attention; it seemed a bit outdated and lacking interest. And then: a masterstroke. The Orphéon EDT is a much happier, livelier, more modern, and elegant version, far less ‘vintage.’ If the EDP is talcum powder on a vanity and whiskey in a 60s jazz club, the EDT is a crisp white shirt, a gin and tonic, something that reminds me of sunscreen (in a good way), and electronic music on a terrace at sunset. A perfect balance between freshness and depth. A launch that deserves a 9/10. The only reason I didn’t give it a 10 is that it lacks a bit of projection, but maybe that was the intention anyway. Either way, it’s a masterpiece.
