Can anyone imagine a floral, woody musk unisex scent? Well, yes, and it’s this one. At first, you get rose, myrtle, and Italian cypress, something uncommon in fragrances, not something you smell every day. The dry and heart notes are usual base notes, but here the fragrance turns everything upside down. A totally nostalgic aroma. I love this fragrance as much as I love Jelena Jensen’s hips.
I’m grateful to Yulieta and Shiseido for this fragrance. Since joining F.com, it was on my ‘want list’ blindly, and now I can finally try it! On my skin, it smells like very soft rosewood and myrtle. It feels like everything is crushed and contained in a box of rose and amber that, when opened, releases a scent of myrtle and rose, cypress, cedar, sandalwood, and fine spices… it conveys something spiritual, ancestral, and romantic. I can imagine a love story suspended in time, the sensation of holding hands. It’s not fresh or warm; I’d say it’s ‘warm’ and comforting, like a warm bath or someone giving you warmth in the cold wind. At first, it’s light, and as it settles, it gradually intensifies (due to the soft musk noticeable after a while). I agree with Shiseido that it’s ‘nostalgic,’ not in sentiment, but in reference. I like it; it’s a very lovely unisex scent, like a private vanity water, perfect for couples. Now I want it knowingly.
Azuriiita’s review is masterful; I certify every word she said. You have to have it!
Creamy sandalwood with a slight spicy touch. Very soft and not impactful at all.
Some people analyze products without looking at the price, which isn’t my case; I see it as a chimera. For me, it’s a letdown. It smells good, and if you like dry, even slightly smoky wood, you might love it, but the performance seems very poor for the cost. I understand it’s personal, but that’s how reviews work, hehe.
Very oriental therapeutic aroma, a bit antisocial for being alone and relaxing, or with a trusted person in a meditative, transcendent situation. I definitely have the EDP; it seems extraordinary and necessary in my collection.
Testing a Diptyque sample… with them, you have to wait for it to evolve before judging. Give it a few minutes to see where it’s going. I’m a huge fan of the brand and own several, but this one gets more intense after 10 mins. It’s fresher at first, then takes on a resinous, musky vibe. I don’t get the floral side, but I like it. Longevity 8-9, sillage 8. Ideal for those not looking for intense scents; this is definitely not that. Giving it a 9.
I tried a sample of Diptyque, and as always with them, you have to wait for the scent to evolve before judging. Don’t judge it instantly; let it sit for a few minutes and it will tell you where it’s going. I’m a huge fan of the brand and own several in my collection, but this Tam Dao gets more intense after 10 minutes, fresher at the opening. Then it picks up that resinous, musky vibe; I don’t get the floral side, but I still like it. Longevity 8-9, sillage 8, ideal for those seeking non-intense scents, though this one definitely is. Overall rating: 9/10.
Didn’t catch it for me; I see it as a softer version of Encre Noir. Since it’s wood-based and not my thing, I’ll keep it short. The quality and craftsmanship are definitely there. Bye.
I envy the people whose perfume lasts this long…
Briefly, after reading the reviews… it doesn’t seem nostalgic to me. It’s a modern woody oriental. It has an excellent cedar with rosewood and sandalwood that give it a dry, sharp nuance. It’s totally unisex for those who like woody orientals; it’s not warm, it’s striking and for personal enjoyment. No downsides. Good longevity and moderate sillage (it’s an EDT). Looks great as a signature on people of all ages looking for something different and exotic. It’s complex, woody, and has a bohemian vibe. I liked it.

I won’t talk about notes; you can check them out here. What I’ll tell you is that it’s gorgeous. A white, fine, and delicate scent. It’s not citrusy, sweet, or floral, but rather so finely powdery and elegant that just smelling it, you’ll know what I mean. It’s elegant, delicate, and subtle, pure beauty.
Reminds me a lot of Fields At Nightfall by Zara, probably due to the sandalwood. I see it as elegant, good taste, unadorned, and sober. I agree it’s ‘warm’, a word that perfectly captures the feeling of this wood accord. Always a Diptyque fan.
It reminds me of Zara’s Fields At Nightfall, especially due to the sandalwood. I see it as an elegant, good-taste fragrance, unadorned and sober. I agree with those who call it a ‘warm’ scent; I think that’s the perfect word to summarize this collection of woods. Always a Diptyque fan 🙂
Borrowed a decant of Tam Dao from my grandma, and what karma: my partner stole it for himself, claiming it smells like his grandfather. I went crazy for those green wood notes in the EdT: it starts with spiced cedar and cypress that smells like a lumberjack, then settles into a wet, creamy sandalwood. Lasted easily 12 hours with strong projection for the first three hours before settling close to the skin. It’s unisex, uncomplicated, and perfect for casual or semi-formal days. For me, a wood lover, the only flaw is that it smells way better on my partner than on me. Pleasant: 10/10 Interesting: 5/10 Versatile: 9/10 Original: 6/10
I found it when I ‘borrowed’ a decant from my grandmother. Karma is cruel: my partner ‘borrowed’ it and made it their signature, saying it reminds them of their grandfather. I fell in love with its green wood notes. The opening is spicy, with cedar and cypress that smells like a logger, but it softens into a wet, creamy sandalwood. Performance is excellent (easily 12 hours), with strong projection for three hours before settling to skin scent. Totally unisex, complex yet simple, ideal for any season or casual occasion. For me, a wood lover, the only flaw is that it smells better on my partner than on me. Pleasant: 10/10, Interesting: 5/10, Versatile: 9/10, Original: 6/10.
It smells rich, like a freshly sharpened pencil, but the longevity is moderate, about 4 hours.
It’s a very nice perfume, smells quite like sandalwood. But it’s great because it’s fresh and light, not that suffocating incense-style sandalwood. And it’s nicely powdery at the end. Although the notes aren’t typical for a fresh scent, it’s very wearable even for daytime.
There are perfumes you love at first sniff and buy, only to find them overwhelming at home. Others seem underwhelming, yet you finish the whole bottle. Tam Dao is the latter. I tested a sample and thought, ‘meh, not that great.’ It smells like a Swedish psychologist in a Bergman film: stately, not sexy, not Mediterranean. Exquisite but intellectual. A few days later, desperately searching for the sample among my 20 perfumes, I discovered it calms me down to sleep. It’s perfect for connecting with yourself, almost spiritual. Would I buy it? Absolutely. It works well for weddings or interviews, but it’s a must-have for wearing alone.
It smells incredible, but the longevity and projection are so poor it’s like a sparrow’s fart.
I don’t seek forgiveness, but before judging, walk a mile in my shoes. I stumbled upon this sandalwood by accident, tired of smelling like everyone else. It’s introspective, modern, and timeless, like Depeche Mode. If you love woods, you’ll fall in love. Upon application, it smells of earth and grass, with an animalic touch reminiscent of elephants carrying logs through a forest. The musk and amber give it a strong, masculine vibe, like holding soil in your hands. Then, it releases a feminine and sensual character thanks to the florals and rosewood, mysterious and rich. The woods persist at the end, though the earthy sensation fades a bit. It doesn’t have a massive sillage; it’s for you and those close to you, not to turn heads. It’s a dirty sandalwood that doesn’t shout but has its own identity.
