Creed's Original Santal is a woody oriental fragrance for men and women. Launched in 2005, this composition was created by Olivier Creed, Erwin Creed, and Pierre Bourdon. The top notes reveal juniper berries, coriander, ginger, rosemary, bergamot, and mandarin; the heart unfolds with sandalwood, lavender, geranium, and orange blossom; while the base notes close the olfactory pyramid with tonka bean, musk, cedar, and oakmoss.

Creed Original Santal. After buying a gift for my wife, I received several samples, including this one. The brand and the reddish bottle color always caught my eye, but I never felt brave enough to buy it due to the price. In terms of performance, it lasts 3-6 hours with a heavy trail. You can detect cinnamon, vanilla, and some citrus note I’m not sure if it’s cilantro or petit grain. I also smell juniper berries. The opening smells like cheap perfume alcohol for the first 30 seconds, and that’s the only thing noticeable upon spraying. Then comes a creamy, sweet aroma: cinnamon with vanilla. If you don’t like Joop! Homme, stay away from this; it’s very similar, just softer and creamier. In summary, it’s way too expensive to smell just like something cheaper. Buy Joop! Homme; it smells the same, maybe even stronger, and the best part is you save money. Unfortunately, among Creeds, this one is overrated. Good thing I didn’t buy it; with Joop! Homme, I have…

Joop Homme is a very good masculine woody, floral, and oriental fragrance, with expansion and durability like few others; its composition has no true resemblance to others and is quite personal. Creed fragrances are very good, at least in the essential oils and their manual immersion method, but that doesn’t mean we like all of them; personally, I only like two, and one for women; each fragrance has its own olfactive world and not all can suit us. But if you like a modern oriental that expands very well without going unnoticed, of course Joop Homme would be the safe choice.

Creed Original Santal. Now that I bought the gift for my wife, they gave me several samples, including this one. This perfume had always caught my attention, apart from the brand, because of the reddish color of the bottle. But I never felt like buying it because it’s very expensive. What really matters is that it has a longevity of 3-6 hours, its sillage is somewhat heavy. You can smell the cinnamon combined with vanilla and some citrus touch that I don’t know if it’s coriander or petit grain. I also perceive juniper berries. The initial touch smells too much like cheap perfume alcohol for the first 30 seconds and is the only thing I smell in the opening. After that, a very creamy, sweet aroma comes in, which is the cinnamon combined with vanilla. If you don’t like Joop Homme, stay away from this perfume; it’s very similar, just slightly softer and creamier. In summary, it’s a very expensive fragrance to smell similar to another of lower price. Better buy Joop Homme which smells the same, if anything a bit stronger, and best of all, you save money. Of the Creeds, I regret to say this one is overrated. Good thing I never bought it; with Joop Homme I have it all.

At the start, what you feel most is the sandalwood and the cinnamon. In that aspect, its name is well placed. Then in the middles, I perceived the lavender, adding to the two mentioned. At the end, I felt more tonka bean than vanilla. The fragrance is well classified as oriental woody, as the sandalwood is intense and feels very natural. Undoubtedly a good quality perfume, with moderate to heavy sillage, a bit of over-application, and longevity superior to 9 hours on me, although the last three or four hours it’s skin scent. Due to its classification, it’s not an informal fragrance, as it requires some special situation where its sandalwood note stands out, more for night and winter. It’s good, but I insist that if you’re going to charge $240 for the bottle, you’d better look for a more economical option.

At first, you notice the sandalwood and cinnamon, so the name fits perfectly. Midway through, lavender joins the other two. Finally, tonka bean outshines the vanilla. It’s correctly classified as an oriental woody because the sandalwood is intense and very natural. It’s a quality fragrance with a heavy trail; though a bit excessive if over-applied, it lasts over 9 hours on me, though the last four hours it clings close to the skin. Given its style, it’s not for casual wear; it requires a special occasion where its sandalwood can shine, better suited for night and winter. It’s good, but I insist: if they’re charging you $240, you’d be better off finding something more affordable.

  • I have to say, this perfume seemed very, very bad to me and is undoubtedly the worst Creed I’ve owned so far (and I’ve owned several). It’s very soft sandalwood with a sweet fruity note (I assume juniper berries) that turns the fragrance into a dusty lollipop. Yes, it smells like lollipop dust or something similar, and yes, at some point it reminded me of Joop Homme. Longevity and, above all, projection are quite soft (like almost all Creeds). It feels like a launch from the “Hugo” series rather than a luxury perfume. 🙂 As I said, quite disappointing overall, especially with those prices…

  • I have to say that this perfume seemed very, very bad to me and without a doubt, the worst Creed I have had to date (and there are several). It’s very soft sandalwood with a sweet fruity note (I suppose juniper berries) that turns the fragrance into a powdered lollipop. Yes, it smells like powdered lollipop and yes, at some point it reminded me of Joop Homme. Longevity and especially projection are quite soft (like almost all Creeds). It sounds like a launch from the “Hugo” series instead of a luxury perfume. As I said, quite lamentable in general, especially with those prices…

  • It seems to me a very masculine, fresh, and light scent where what predominates most is the sandalwood, lavender, a little cinnamon, orange leaves, and a slight touch of ginger.

  • I used it last night and honestly, I liked it a lot; you can tell the quality of the ingredients, but the aroma seemed very soft to me, I don’t know, I expected something more intense. From the start, it smells very similar to Joop Homme, but more like a “Joop Homme Summer,” a softer version. I liked it a lot and you can appreciate nuances I don’t see in JH, but generally speaking, it’s that, a JH for spring and summer. Longevity and sillage are moderate; it didn’t last more than 7 hours on my skin with a strong initial sillage that fades quickly and stays moderate at the end. As I said, a perfume for spring and summer, day or night depending on preference, but at the price they sell it, it’s better to buy a bottle of JH and dilute it, as it comes out cheaper. A very high-quality perfume, but I wouldn’t recommend it, especially due to its high cost and the fact that it offers nothing new or original.

  • I wore it last night and honestly, I really liked it; you can tell the ingredients are high quality, but the aroma felt very soft—I expected something more intense. From the start, it smells a lot like Joop! Homme, but more like a “Summer Joop! Homme,” a softer version. I liked it a lot, and you can appreciate some nuances not found in JH, but generally, that’s what it is: a Joop! Homme for spring and summer. Longevity and trail are moderate; it didn’t last more than 7 hours on my skin, with a strong trail at the beginning that fades quickly and stays moderate until the end. As I said, a perfume for spring and summer, usable day or night depending on preference, but at the price they sell it for, it’s better to buy a bottle of Joop! Homme and dilute it; it’s more cost-effective. High-quality fragrance, but I wouldn’t recommend it, especially given its high cost and lack of anything new or original.

  • Although it fades quickly, it performs well, easily 10 hours or more. I really like that Joop, Individuel type of scent; this one doesn’t seem worth the asking price at all, but at a euro per milliliter or less, it could be considered. It’s very similar to Montblanc, perhaps the Creed with better projection and less forced, though I’d have to try the Individuel again since I haven’t tested it in a while despite owning it for some time. In the Santal, the cinnamon is practically the most prominent, along with the wood and a hint of vanilla softening it all together, but never excessively sweet. At times there’s something that burns my nose, like with the Joop; these are flaws they have despite me liking the approach very much.

  • It starts super fresh, with a super citrusy and sharp berry scent, but in a “rich and addictive” way. Then the cinnamon and lavender kick in very strong, followed quickly by the middle notes. It’s a very pleasant aroma with incredible projection and longevity. I’d recommend it for a casual date with a girl; I can picture watching the sunset with her and enjoying cuts of meat on the terrace of a nice restaurant. I haven’t gotten compliments yet since I just got it, but I’m sure it will bring many thanks to its great projection/longevity and aroma. Projection: 9/10, Longevity: 10/10, Versatility: 9/10, Scent: 10/10. TOTAL: 10. And by the way… Neither Joop Homme nor Montblanc Individuel come close in quality, no wonder the price of OS-Creed is so high, a thousand times OS-Creed. ***I noticed a slight similarity to D&G Pour Homme when smelling it directly from the bottle*** haha.

  • Just as I expected, millions of compliments! They say it smells incredible, ask what perfume I’m wearing, say I smell delicious, that I smell “like sweets”… The compliments are wonderful!

ORIGINAL “BERRIES” CREED! Batch CM4116G01, 2016 production. A boss who shares my fragrance hobby recommended Creed Original “Santal” to me. The bottle is gorgeous—a fiery red color, good atomizer, and a beautiful cap, though the material feels questionable. It’s quite aromatic, linear, and feels fresh. To me, it smells like clean, delicate silk fabric, freshly ironed and starched, with a “strawberry spray” vibe. It also brings images of “lollipops” and “berries” flavored candies with strawberries and raspberries. If it reminds you of Mont Blanc Individuel (having both is redundant), it’s not so much like Joop. Attractive for a young crowd and ladies will like it; while it might seem “cutesy,” it smells “sexy” to me. I have a 4 FL oz bottle, bought it for under $180, and while I don’t regret it, it doesn’t smell as “luxurious” as the scent type suggests. With Creed, price is a matter of conscience and budget, but wow, I get compliments! Above Aventus. Great trail and huge longevity. Perfect for spring, autumn, and winter, casual wear, plus I feel it’s somewhat “for going out,” very in the style of Le Male JPG and 212 Sexy by Carolina Herrera, with that sweetened vanilla combo. For me, it’s 60% masculine and 40% feminine; for now, I can’t imagine my wife or daughters using it; they prefer Bonbon by V&R. If I enjoy it, it’s very pleasant and high quality.

Original Creed “Berries” batch CM4116G01, 2016! A colleague recommended it to me because we share a common passion. The bottle is gorgeous with that fiery red and a top-tier atomizer, though the cap feels like questionable material. It smells like clean, freshly ironed, starched silk with a hint of strawberry spray. It evokes images of strawberry and raspberry lollipops. If it reminds you of Montblanc Individuel (having both feels redundant), it’s not much like Joop. Ideal for a younger crowd; girls will find it comfortable. Although it might seem cheesy, to me it smells sexy. I bought the 4 oz for under $180. It doesn’t smell as “luxury” as the scent suggests, but the price is just a matter of budget, like everything else from Creed. Wow, the compliments it gets—even more than Aventus! Huge sillage and beastly longevity. Great for spring, fall, and winter, casual or clubbing, similar to Le Male JPG and 212 Sexy. For me, it’s 60% man, 40% woman; I can’t imagine my wife or daughters wearing it, they prefer Bonbon by V&R. If you enjoy it, it’s very pleasant and high quality.

Very sweet aroma, I’d say unisex. A bit similar to Joop! Homme. It doesn’t last long, moderate longevity, but projects a lot. Personally, it’s not my style—too sweet and not masculine enough. Given the high cost, I’d prefer another perfume.

  • Metaleroenésimo

The first time I tried it, it sounded familiar. I thought, ‘This reminds me of what my dad used… Ah! It’s Mont Blanc Individuel.’ And users are right about the similarity. It also has a Joop vibe. It has a caramelized nuance, and despite some calling it one of Creed’s worst, for me it’s an absolute masterpiece. So refined, I’d even attribute aphrodisiac properties to it; it makes you want to lick your arm. It’s not a cloying or gourmand scent, but a spicy sweetness that doesn’t overwhelm. While it’s not groundbreaking and resembles designer fragrances, the quality shines through. The note balance is notable, and frankly, despite its name, it doesn’t revolve around sandalwood; it’s present but secondary, with a creamy touch. The spices really stand out. Perfect for all seasons; I wore it in summer and it fit perfectly. Projection is good, but longevity is moderate. Not a daily wear, mostly due to the high price.

  • Original Santal > Aventus. OS is a magnet for girls; they absolutely love it. In my opinion, OS wins in every category: incredible longevity and projection, no need to worry about batch variations or aging. It’s a beauty. I always wear it on dates, and they’re fascinated by it. Neither Mont Blanc Individuel nor Joop come close to its quality; the others smell synthetic and flat, and girls definitely prefer this Creed.

  • To me, this is one of Creed’s biggest disappointments. My only criticism is that it smells 90% like Mont Blanc Individuel—practically an outright copy that costs three or four times more, even if the ingredients are higher quality. If Individuel had come out later, everyone would call Santal a clone, but since it’s the other way around, I’ll just say it: it adds nothing new. Cinnamon and vanilla are the stars, with hints of petit grain. Why spend over $300 when you can get something similar, if not better, for under $100?

  • You know I’m going to get roasted, but Original Santal is one of my favorite Creeds. It’s obvious it smells like Mont Blanc Individuel, but it lasts much longer and projects better. The raspberry, sandalwood, and cinnamon notes are more potent. Honestly, I wish I could smell more Creed; I even liked it more than Aventus back in the day.

  • I know I’ll get roasted, but Original Santal is one of my absolute favorite Creeds. It’s basically a clone of Mont Blanc Individuel, but with way better longevity and projection; the raspberry, sandalwood, and cinnamon notes feel much more potent. I wish I could smell more Creed, and honestly, I liked it even more than Aventus.

  • So far, this is my favorite Creed scent. It’s very similar to Montblanc Individuel but of superior quality. However, like all Creeds, the longevity and projection are poor for the price. On my skin it lasts 3 hours and on clothes 5, with a very weak trail. In conclusion, a disappointment compared to Creed’s expectations.

  • Another pretentious Creed perfume. If you want to smell like this, buy Joop! It’s $300 cheaper, has better projection and longevity.

  • Another pretentious perfume from the Creed house. If you want to smell like this, buy Joop; it’s $300 cheaper and has better projection and longevity.

  • The longevity is a disaster. It smells great from minute 5 to 55, then the trail just drops off. For the price, it should last all day.

  • Comparing Original Santal to Individuel is like comparing Scarlett Johansson to Paz Padilla (all due respect to the Spanish actress). Individuel smells very synthetic, overly sweet, and fades in a breath. Original Santal has that typical Creed brilliance, a symphony of nuances that sound together and fit perfectly; the longevity isn’t nuclear but it’s correct (5-6 hours). If you like Individuel, you’ll be blown away by OS since it follows the same path, but they can’t be compared—it’s a different league entirely.
