Descripción

Le Male Essence de Parfum by Jean Paul Gaultier is an oriental fougère fragrance for men. Launched in 2016, the nose behind this composition is Quentin Bisch. The top notes reveal cardamom, pepper, absinthe, and bergamot; the heart unfolds leather, lavender, cinnamon, and sage; while the base notes close the olfactory pyramid with vanilla, coumarin, amberwood, musk, and costus.

  • I have to disagree with the previous reviews. It doesn’t seem like a masterpiece to me, but given the current state of the market, I expected a bomb and the truth is it’s not. It has been pleasant to me and has very good longevity.

  • Nothing spectacular; it looks like a flanker of La Nuit or straight up CH Men Privé, with lots of cardamom and lots of leather. Sillage and longevity are quite poor, and due to its similarity to other fragrances, it’s not very original. I prefer Ultra Male by far: more original, better sillage, better longevity, and a flood of compliments.

  • Anyone who says it’s similar to La Nuit de l’Homme has never smelled Le Male Essence de Parfum, but it is in the same vein as CH Men Privé. It lasts all day and smells great. The first spray seemed like Spicebomb, but it only lasted minutes before giving way to leather, lavender, cinnamon, musk, and vanilla. Very well executed. In the end, it’s vanilla and musk.

  • I tried it this morning and it’s a very generic fragrance; it reminded me a lot of the CH Men Privé style. It smells good, but it’s nothing original. I expected more from this ‘Essence de Parfum’; no essence, and less perfume. It’s very light, ideal for this time of year, but without any perfume essence. Longevity on me was terrible and the sillage was average. The price is a crime. I’d prefer the original a thousand times over, even with the reformulation.

It’s tremendously similar to CH Men Privé by Carolina Herrera, and the worst part is that they have the same longevity. Nothing original about this Jean Paul Gaultier proposal, a total disappointment.

  • I have to confirm what others said: it’s identical to CH Men Privé, but with more style and elegance. I really like it, although on my skin it doesn’t last as long as an Eau de Parfum Intense. I recommend it for special dates or for night.

I’ve been wearing it almost daily for two weeks. At first, it’s intense and dense, but as it settles, it becomes a sumptuously rich scent for oneself. It doesn’t project much; no one has commented on it so far. In the dry-down, it reminds me of La Nuit, initially CK Shock and CH Privé. The bottle is gorgeous. If applied 10 or 15 minutes before heading out, it’s more noticeable. Recommended.

  • Hello, this is one of my favorites for indoor places like bars or clubs; it projects more when the body is warm, very similar to CH Privé. For me, it lasts all night with just a couple of sprays. The dry-down smells like marshmallow packaging with well-presented floral notes: about 8 hours on skin and up to 12 on clothes. Cheers.

  • I tried it at the perfumerie and it didn’t quite convince me at first, but hours later, when I smelled the dry-down again, the scent had transformed and settled beautifully; it ended up exquisite and elegant. Reminded me of CH Men Privé and YSL La Nuit de l’Homme, but with its own personality and even better.

  • Good opening, then it becomes heavy and slightly cloying. Medium longevity of 5 hours, projecting for 2 hours. I wouldn’t buy it.

  • I don’t recommend it due to the price; it’s not worth it. It’s identical to CH Men Privé but more expensive and less durable on the skin despite being an EDP. There are better perfumes. If you like the smell, lean towards CH Men Privé by Carolina Herrera: it lasts longer and costs less.

  • Le Male Essence is a spicy oriental. It comes out with leather and lots of pepper, a bit of cinnamon. At first it resembles CH Men Privé, but I like how the Carolina Herrera one evolves more. Then it becomes soft and warm, the spices drop. Ideal for autumn and winter. Good longevity, medium projection. It bears almost no resemblance to the original; it seems like a new fragrance with a more aesthetic bottle, like a superhero suit.

  • JPG is doing something else. Maybe it’s not a flanker, which is why I’m bothered by calling it ‘Essence’. Forget that vanilla pudding and wrap yourself in sweet leather that many confuse with CHM Privé; for me, it reminds me of the smoky touch of Loewe Anónimo. Pity that without so much vanilla, prepubescent kids won’t appreciate it. 4/5, hoping for new lines.

  • Good fragrance and fixation. The anise is reduced and cinnamon, vanilla, and sweet leather are highlighted. Seems like the same formula, they just take away or add things depending on the year. Nothing new under the sun, but they’re pleasant fragrances to wear.

I walked into a perfumery, saw the bottle, and the leather scent attracted me. The tester lasted two days so I bought it; it’s addictive, I call it ‘creamy herbal leather’. Everyone will like it. The downside is what everyone says: sillage and longevity. The first three hours are a bomb, then it drops to skin-level. It’s sad for an EDP Intense, but I’m not regretting it. I’d buy it again and I’m putting on sprays right now.

  • Uglydreamer92

The worst men’s fragrance from JPG lately: 1) a blatant inferior copy of CH Men Privé and YSL La Nuit de L’homme, 2) weak longevity and sillage, 3) poor ingredients, 4) smells generic and synthetic, 5) it’s a weak, diminished EDP, 6) it’s trash without authenticity that isn’t worth 2100 pesos. If JPG had any shame, they should discontinue it.

  • I tried the original Le Male and this Essence: the first is a jewel, the second is very defined for cold nights. Compared it to CH Men Privé, YSL, and the classic; the Essence doesn’t innovate but keeps the classic’s essence, superior to this version. It projects more at night, marking who you are. The CH is more complex but its key note disappears quickly. The YSL lasts longer and costs less but smells different. Buy this only if you’re looking for that specific scent, try all three and decide.

  • The bottle is cute, but the perfume is boring and simple. Average performance; I wouldn’t buy it to stand out. I prefer the classic Le Male or Ultramale; the bottle is great for a perfume that isn’t that good.

  • I love it. It smells much more elegant than CH Men Privé. It comes out sweet without being cloying, then turns liquorish thanks to the tonka and leather, with a touch of cardamom that makes it fantastic. Very well done by JPG.

  • Although it’s not said, for me it smells like Coco and very sweet; I wish to wear it at night. I recommend it for people between 20 and 40 years old. It doesn’t lose the Jean Paul line, staying on the sidelines. I particularly like it more than Le Male, as the latter leaves a stronger earthy smell at the end. Greetings from Medellín.

  • I recently acquired it and it seems like a combination between Le Male Original and CH Men Privé, resembling the latter more in longevity. It’s like a lighter version of CH Men Privé because it doesn’t have that strong opening that Carolina Herrera has, but at least its longevity on skin is better. It’s not the most original, but I liked it.

  • Very good performance and projection, especially. I see it for night and cold occasions; in summer it can be overwhelming. The aroma has the DNA of classic Le Male but much more intense. I wouldn’t buy it again because it’s not a scent I particularly like.

I waited to try it before writing a review. I heard conflicting opinions: some saying it was a masterpiece bringing back the 80s with a vintage suede jacket scent, and others saying it wasn’t worth it, claiming it was an extremely youthful aroma. I don’t think it’s youthful at all; a 15-year-old can’t just wear this casually; it would seem strange to them, not unpleasant. EDIT: The fragrance was reformulated several times, just like CH Privé. The latest batches don’t last at all; they have pitiful longevity, while the early ones were better polished and lasted excellently, bordering on beastly. Who knows if the liquid ages over time and reaches a decent longevity? What’s my opinion? Yes, it smells like the 80s, with that herbal opening, then accorded notes (not dry leather, but a hyper-realistic suede), the vanilla, the warm spice, and the animalic costus. I hadn’t heard anything like it. If it exists, I’d want to buy it because it’s discontinued. I’m almost sure the store where I smelled it is the only one in the state that has it. The opening is impressive; the leather smells refined and classy. What took away my desire to buy it was the very scarce longevity and projection on paper (half an hour and it stopped projecting). If anyone knows something similar (excluding CH Men Privé, which doesn’t really resemble it), please tell me in private. CH Men Privé doesn’t resemble this Essence de Parfum; the leather and opening have very different tones. They are a bet by Puig with two similar aromas but with their own characters. Final verdict: If you smell it, try it on skin, and if you like it and it lasts, don’t hesitate to buy it. Even if it doesn’t last long, apply it several times in the same spot. This Essence de Parfum is MUCH superior to any modern leather, one of the most unique aromas I’ve heard. It’s not generic like Invictus or Sauvage; if a young person wears it, it can carry them forward, but it will look strange on them; it requires presence. It’s not challenging or ultra-masculine, but it has its own thing. It seems to be the crown jewel of Quentin Bisch. Even if I ended up making money, I’d love to buy it; the scent is impressive. When I smell it, I imagine a 25-year-old man, slim, perfectly shaved, wearing a suede jacket smoking on the streets of a city on an autumn afternoon. So masculine and classy.

  • JPG never disappoints. This perfume, although a flanker, escapes the Le Male line to approach a world already dominated by CH Privé; by the way, I never really liked it much, but now I love it; it’s an acquired taste. Same case with Bvlgari Man in Black. JPG Essence appeals to those who love that style. It’s a rich perfume; I don’t know if I should buy the bottle (the one I have is a discovery set) when I already have Privé, Men in Black, and Bentley For Men Intense in my collection, which are very similar scents. Of the entire Le Male saga, the most exquisite is far away Le Parfum and Le Beau. Another level.

  • I wish it weren’t discontinued, as I like it more than CH Privé and it has better longevity. It’s a green, dusty leather that can remind you of burnt rubber, accompanied by a friendly spicy middle and a sweet base that rounds everything out. It certainly has no relation to the original or the other flankers in the line. For me, it’s the best.

  • It was clear they were going to discontinue it. I grabbed two 125 ml bottles before it disappeared everywhere. It was the only one that broke away from the Le Male discipline, the rebel. Scandal for Men is just more of the same. Well then, J.P.G., keep doing what you’re doing, because I’m moving on to others.

  • I bought it when I was lucky enough to catch the first formula and loved it. Perfect for going out at night without drawing attention, to the movies, or for dinner. But recently, almost in summer, I noticed the color shifted from dark violet to burgundy and decided to smell it again. My head exploded; the scent improved infinitely. I don’t know if it’s the heat or something else. Before it was a 7.5, now it’s a 9 or close to a 10.

  • Memoquique

Exquisite aroma, 10/10, but the longevity is weak and the projection is pitiful; you have to press your nose against the skin to smell it. It’s a good perfume that will fade into obscurity because it projects nothing. Fun fact: it changes color over time, from blue to violet.

  • I tried it today and absolutely loved it. It reminds me of my favorite perfume, Colors Man Black, with those same notes of leather, lavender, and delicious vanilla. They aren’t identical, but they walk the same path. A very elegant scent.

  • jeloumaifelas

I must disagree with Memoquique regarding the longevity and projection. Today I sprayed myself only on one calf, under the long pants, and besides the scent lasting, I get bursts reaching my nose, something few perfumes manage. Regarding the scent, I like it but it doesn’t drive me crazy; I’m part of the small group that finds a certain resemblance to Essencial Oud, perhaps that’s why the scent doesn’t kill me.

  • I have the 2016 version with the purple liquid. What makes it interesting is the pepper that gives it that spice in the sweetness. It has very good longevity and a moderate sillage. I wouldn’t use it by chance in the heat.

  • LosPerfumesDeJavi

Probably one of the most original and different Le Males. The leather is noticeable right upon spraying, and the lavender is very present. The scent is very special and doesn’t resemble any other Le Male. I remember thinking the bottle was, and still is, the most beautiful in the world. The bad part is that when you finish the perfume, it looks like a colorless crystal figure and loses its charm… but well, you can buy another one. Without a doubt, one of my favorites.

  • What a good perfume, I don’t know why they discontinued it. They say it’s similar to CH Privé, though I’ve never smelled it. It smells like liquor, like chestnuts, with leather and a very pleasant amber touch. Excellent fragrance, one of the best from JPG. It has good performance for winter, cold days; in summer it’s impossible. It’s a pity it was a limited edition or something; if I find it, I’ll buy it again.

  • I’ve been able to try it, and it’s a flanker of Le Male, but I don’t find much resemblance to CH Men Privé that I have in my collection. The longevity is abysmal, and the leather note is overshadowed by that aromatic/herbal touch of the mother fragrance. When you try to catch something smokier, it’s already very weak, and you have to be like a bloodhound sniffing around. I stick with CH Men Privé a thousand times over, and its alcoholic touch sets it apart from this one. I’m not a huge fan of JPG, but of all the Le Males, this is perhaps the one I dislike the least. I recommend testing it on skin first, as its longevity is very short for me.

Le Male Essence de Parfum, launched in 2016 with a leather-spices-amber-vanilla trend, similar to CH Men Privé from the previous year. Quentin Bisch added an herbal tone of hyssop that makes the opening feel like an 80s fragrance. In the dry down, there are warm spices, a hyper-realistic suede-like leather, and vanilla with an animalic touch. It’s very rich. Worth mentioning: the first formula (with the tin and silver details) was the best iteration, offering 10-12 hours of longevity on skin and better quality nuances, with nothing comparable on the market (not even CH Privé came close). Unfortunately, when JPG handed production over to Puig, the trend of reformulation wreaked havoc. The bottles with rose gold details suffered degradation and a loss of longevity, dropping to about two hours. Since the leather didn’t appeal to the current market and it lost out to the blue fragrance trend, it was discontinued, just like CH Men Privé. I only tried it once in 2021: a beautiful scent, a work of art… but after half an hour, it was gone on the blotter. If you’re looking for something similar in good condition, try Gentleman EDT 2017 by Givenchy, although recent formulas aren’t worth it. Sadly, I recommend enthusiasts to save their money and wait, because it seems they’ve gone away for good and will only return in heaven. It’s unrealistic to find a bottle of a decent formula, and the price reflects that. Note: the color change in the liquid is the ‘Schiff base,’ a chemical reaction that decolorizes and can sometimes alter the scent, sometimes irreversibly or unpleasantly. Check out Sam Macer’s video on this. Blessings to modern leather perfumery.

Le Male Essence de Parfum, the most rebellious of the family. After smelling it, I knew it wouldn’t be the same as the original; you can already tell from the bottle that vanilla-infused leather, one of the most beautiful scents I’ve ever experienced. The lavender and the alcoholic touch make it ideal for special occasions, suits with ties, or elegant dinners. Upon smelling it, I thought of CH Men Prive: they share similarities in the leather, but here the vanilla stands out more and there’s less liquor. Personally, I prefer this over the Prive. Very rich, one of the best in the Le Male collection. To be the first perfume by Quentin Bisch for J.P.G., he did an excellent job, like a slap on the table. What a pity they discontinued it. At least I got it at a good price and will use it sparingly. Recommended.

  • Le Male Essence is a discontinued fragrance. At first, it smells of bergamot and pepper, citrus and spicy, then it matures. When it dries down, it leaves a marked leather and vanilla with lavender, a very ‘challenging’ result. Ugly? No. Challenging? Yes, it’s not for everyone because of those leather, lavender, and sage notes that give it a serious 90s vibe. It’s elegant, not youthful or fun like the line suggests; it moves away from the traditional DNA and aims to be innovative, which perhaps led to its discontinuation. What a pity because today it’s a great fragrance.

  • After years of searching for this pearl, I finally got it, and what a surprise: a sexy leather scent with the DNA of Le Male.

  • I’m talking about this gem again, a piece I’ve had in my collection for years: what a shame it’s discontinued. It’s one of my top 3 out of 50 perfumes. Interestingly, when I first bought it, the longevity wasn’t great, but over the years it has become a delight again, lasting over 10 hours. The leather note is creamy and delicious. If anyone knows a similar alternative, I’d love to find another essence or something alike.
