Descripción

Deep Red by Hugo Boss is an oriental vanilla fragrance for women. Launched in 2001, this composition was created by Alain Astori and Beatrice Piquet. The top notes unfold with blood orange, blackcurrant, clementine, mandarin, and pear; the heart reveals ginger, ginger flower, neroli, freesia, and hibiscus seeds; while the base notes complete the structure with vanilla, sandalwood, musk, and California cedar.

  • I don’t understand why they discontinued this wonderful perfume. I used it at my parties and received many compliments with it.

  • DulceInvierno

I simply love it; it has something unique: it’s mysterious, distinguished, sensual, and deep, draws a lot of attention, and has brutal longevity.

  • Mysterious and sensual; I haven’t smelled anything like it. A great Hugo Boss launch, fortunately still available in my country.

  • pathypooh

I’m so happy! My husband brought it to me as a gift, and it’s a gem, especially since they say it’s discontinued. It’s warm, sensual, and fresh all at once, very exquisite. It doesn’t resemble anything I know. I love that dark, mysterious imprint from the box to the contents.

  • From the 90s but a real banger. It pleasantly surprised me; it smells with the quality of before.

  • ZenNatsume

I bought it in 2005 because it loved my skin, but the trail is weak and lasts only about three hours. It’s oriental, vanilla, and fruity—I liked it, but didn’t fall in love due to its short longevity. Now that it’s discontinued, it’s a pity for those who enjoyed it.

  • I’m not a fan of sweet scents, but I used it for a friend and got hooked. It’s mysterious, rare, and draws a lot of attention. I used it sparingly and gifted it several times until I didn’t know who had it left. It’s strong and invasive, like Hypnotic Poison, with blackcurrant, vanilla, and musk. It beat gourmands to the punch, and today it would just be another one of the crowd.

  • lauraaaaa86

It almost smells like a men’s fragrance, with that typical mentholated touch. I don’t detect all the listed notes, but for the price, it’s a brutal fragrance.

  • What a heartbreaking disappointment! In 2001/2002, it was the queen of the night—sweet with red fruits and vanilla, lasting hours on clothes. I bought it last year out of nostalgia, and it’s a shame: now it’s more citrusy, less sweet, and doesn’t last at all. I get why it’s so cheap; the quality has dropped.

  • Another gem that blends coquettishness, mischief, and wildness, perfect for seeking fun alongside Black XS. It’s sweet but with character, almost unisex, and ideal for night use. Reminds me of Natura’s Pecan and Cacao cream, which I’d use beforehand to add more intensity.

  • Despite its sweetness, I feel it’s unisex and attractive. It has a citrusy-fruity opening, floral notes, hibiscus, a touch of cedar, and softened ginger. Sometimes perfumes inflame my sinuses to the point of closing them, especially if they contain moss, but with this one, the opposite happens: I breathe better. I’m writing this to mention a curious reaction I have with this perfume.

  • This fragrance has a citrus opening that might seem unisex, but after 1 or 2 hours, it transforms into a delicate vanilla that’s only noticeable up close. At least on my skin, its performance is 3-4 hours total. People mention it’s been reformulated, and probably that’s why it lost quality in terms of longevity and trail. It smells great, but it’s a shame it doesn’t last long on the skin.

  • Years ago, when they first released it for me, it was amazing—I loved it and it lasted forever. Recently, I bought it again… and nothing. Nothing like before. It still smells good… but not like before, and it doesn’t last at all. Anyway, what a pity, but I won’t repurchase.

  • It was one of my signature fragrances during my teenage years. It smells phenomenal. It has a citrus opening with a slightly sweet orange that’s very pleasant, wrapping you in a hug of woody notes and plenty of vanilla. It seems quite cheerful, yet flirty.

  • Manuela2020

I love it; it feels fresh, sparkling, and slightly sweet at the same time. I haven’t tried the previous version, but this one feels perfect to me. It lasts about 5 hours, and for the price, that’s ideal.

  • TeresaGH_

I first encountered this perfume in 2003 when I was 14. It was the first one I bought with my own money because I felt it was worth it. It accompanied me through my entire adolescence and part of my 20s. I wore it every night regardless of the weather (in my city, temperatures often exceed 34°C in summer, even at night), and it always stood out with its excellent yet little-known aroma. Now at 31, I’ve bought it again, and I don’t feel it lost any quality or surprise. Maybe it lasts a bit less; I’m not sure if it’s me or the perfume, but it remains one of my favorites and will always be. It’s a standout scent that people always ask about.

  • Kathro B.

This perfume has no comparison to any other; it’s unique! Mysterious, sensual, attractive, sexy, provocative, and cozy. A true HB gem that’s unfortunately hard to find in Mexico.

  • Andrea perfumona

I’ve worn this almost non-stop since 2003 (except for three 9-month breaks during pregnancies to avoid altering my hormonal perception), and I don’t think it was reformulated. Maybe they reduced the intensity, or maybe I just got used to it after so many years. The scent is delicious; I always thought it smelled like gum, but real gum doesn’t smell like that. My brain just associates it with gum for some reason, and I love it—I haven’t heard anything like it. Now, with more experience, I can detect the orange, tangerine, neroli, pear, and vanilla. At one point it was hard to find, so I searched for a similar scent without success. Finally, I ordered it from the USA. It’s my signature fragrance.

  • I agree with the previous reviewer. I just bought another bottle of my favorite 2000s scent. The sweet citrus opening is just as special, and the dark drydown remains exactly what I loved. I suppose it was reformulated; the trail and longevity have changed, but they kept the essence of this gem. It could be considered a niche fragrance because this combination of notes is rare in today’s commercial perfumery.

  • Patico192000

I bought this blindly based on friends’ recommendations because I was in an old-school phase. It has a very pleasant fragrance; it’s rich, easy to wear, not too soft but not overpowering, and the note blend is perfect. It starts with a sweet citrus opening, then vanilla takes center stage on my skin. The downside is the short longevity and weak trail. I’d still recommend it; people with a less intense skin pH will likely get better results. In my opinion, it’s safe to buy blindly.

  • In my opinion, this women’s perfume is one of the best, yes, I have no doubts. It’s unique, so well-blended that it presents itself as an individual, complete, addictive, sensual, and elegant fragrance. I think if the brand decided to keep producing it, it would be even timeless. It’s fantastic that more than 22 years after its creation, it remains a resounding success. It will never go unnoticed. It’s not just that it’s sweet; that sweetness isn’t cloying; it’s not a gourmand sweet but a floral one, with cherry accords, warm red notes. If a woman wants compliments on her date, this is a 10/10, and for her own pleasure too. Magnificent. Note: Yes, there is a salicylate note that moderates the sweetness 🙂

  • I smelled this fragrance on a friend during a beach trip: I remember a honeyed, woody, and super sensual aroma that I loved. Later, I found it online at an incredible price and decided to buy it, oh disappointment! It didn’t smell anything like what I smelled on my friend. I detect neroli and spices, and as time passes, a bit of sweet and loud vanilla, but no trace of that sophisticated and sexy vanilla I remembered. Was it the beach heat, did I buy a different version, or is it fake? While I don’t hate it or find it repulsive, it reminds me of catalog perfumes without any joke or personality, a cheap scent you find anywhere. I use it to stay at home doing nothing or when taking a shower before bed, nothing special.

  • Andrea perfumona

@Paola.PT This fragrance is exactly as you described, the one your friend felt. And I feel it amplifies wonderfully in summer; it doesn’t behave exactly the same in winter. I recommend trying it again in summer and see what happens.

  • When it hit the market, wow, it was a huge success, but they’ve reformulated it and it’s not as potent anymore. That’s why you now find it for $20 on the market. The fixative is what makes the fragrance last; it’s the most expensive raw material in a perfume. That’s why when the price drops, it means the formula has changed.

  • This was my signature fragrance for many years, especially during my teenage years. My aunt bought it for me on a trip to the US, and I loved it at first. I bought it again out of nostalgia, and it’s nothing like before: it doesn’t smell bad, but the fragrance has changed significantly. It doesn’t last as long, and the sillage is very different. Maybe my pH has changed over the years, which also affects the final scent. You have to wait a good while for it to develop a different, more pleasant smell; in the end, it becomes more sweet with darker tones rather than citrus. I still have doubts about whether I’ll buy it again when I run out of this bottle…

  • I haven’t tried the new version, but I was loyal to the original for a long time. If anyone is looking for it, I encourage them to try Libre Le Parfum. Once it settles on the skin, Le Parfum smells exactly like Deep Red.

  • julieta85

What a pity I didn’t try the original. I have the reformulated version, and my only complaint is the lasting power, which is lamentable like other Boss perfumes I own. The scent, however, is gorgeous and rich. I understand it was a bomb in its day. The name describes it well: it smells red, bold, sweet, juicy fruity with woods and a powdery touch. A shame about the longevity, since the scent is great, but it should be more affordable given its performance.

  • rojita618

It’s not worth the price; it’s trash! Coty makes it, so imagine lasting nothing for $30; you could buy something much better for $10. I bought it out of nostalgia for my teenage years, and it was a pure disappointment, honestly.

  • Despite being for women, it’s a bit unisex, strong, not sweet, a bit citrusy, powdery floral, and with a fine wood. It’s a different and sensual perfume, not for a good little girl, but for an empowered and wealthy woman. I see it for night outings. Longevity, wow, 20 hours, good sillage, it stays on clothes until washed and on hair too.

  • Kharynbranchet

It has shifted from an autumn-winter scent to a spring-summer one, which is rare, but that’s how I feel. Maybe the intensity dropped after a reformulation, but I’m still enchanted. I think it’s no longer in production, though I still find it in physical stores and online at great prices.

  • It was a blind buy and I loved it, just like my mom who ended up using it. She says she always receives many compliments, so I think it will be her signature perfume for a good while.

  • This perfume is like diving into an orange grove, with its refreshing citrus that envelops all the senses. It’s the perfect choice for early mornings, especially when I’m getting ready to go to work. However, its ephemeral longevity is a disappointment.

  • I ran into this perfume again after many years, and the truth is I remembered it very differently. Before, it was more powerful, oriental, and autumnal/wintery. Now on my skin, it’s a fruity citrus with sweet touches, slightly spiced by ginger, a bit vanillic, and above all with a very creamy woody base, which is my favorite part. As a scent, I liked it, but it has little to do with what I remembered. I don’t see it as especially rare or opulent. The longevity hovers around 4-5 hours, with soft projection and sillage. At today’s price, it doesn’t seem like a bad perfume; there are worse performances at higher prices. Just keep that in mind: the yield has dropped and the scent has changed too.

  • oliendobonito

If you like citrus with ‘something different’, this could be for you. Here, the star is blood orange. It’s citrusy but not like a lemon or bergamot. What sets it apart is the sweetness of the vanilla and the spicy, hot touch of ginger. I’d love for it to last much longer. Unfortunately, its projection and longevity are scarce, even on clothes (less than 5 hours). Despite being citrusy, I’d use it in autumn (when it rains and it’s cold). The perfume wraps you, it warms you. You feel that spicy warmth of the ginger alongside its freshness.

  • It doesn’t seem like a citrus perfume at all. You can tell there’s orange, yes, but it’s a ripe, juicy orange, very sweet, loaded with vanilla and sandalwood; more like a dessert than fresh fruit. It’s woody/vanillic with a touch of fruity/floral (creamy white flowers, I suppose neroli) and a tiny spicy kick in the opening from ginger, though it’s not sharp or persistent. It’s gorgeous and doesn’t need to last 24 hours or project a hundred meters to shine. It invites you to get closer without overwhelming anyone. It’s the kind of perfume I use when autumn shows off its leg: it wraps you just enough on days with diminishing hours of light and the sun fighting with the clouds. It makes itself felt without suffocating. Longevity is more than acceptable if you apply the right number of sprays (two aren’t enough): about 6 hours and moderate sillage. I feel it in bursts and know it’s perceived without being invasive; I’ve received positive comments. Although I think all perfumes are unisex, if we have to consider standards, it’s more feminine due to that floral/fruity load and the accompanying vanilla. I wouldn’t use it in summer; its ideal time is autumn and winter. Since it’s not invasive, it’s versatile, though it wouldn’t be my first choice in very formal circumstances. For daily wear, day and night, and semi-formal occasions, it works very well. In Spain, it’s easy to find for around €30 for 90ml, an economical option to consider.

  • By a twist of fate, I got this fragrance today, bought blind just for the notes; I was pleasantly surprised. Definitely sensual, very citrusy but also spiced. On my skin, I detect a rich and sweet note, like vanilla and fruit. I think it’s great for night or dates, bold but rich. It also retains elegance, reminding me of Givenchy L’Interdit, just more youthful, sweet, and fruity. Good choice, I highly recommend it.

  • Eugenia Argentina

This perfume screams cherry and raspberry! On my skin, it dominates for most of the time. It’s warm but doesn’t last as long as I’d like. I have another Hugo Woman Extreme and I feel a similar base, like the brand’s signature, but it’s not the same because this one is herbal. I bought it blind based on the notes and loved it. I consider it sweet but not gourmand, not unisex, a bit citrusy, and with personality. I’m very open to scents, I have one for every mood, and I don’t have a signature perfume.

  • NormaCuevas

I love it because it’s different, something I always value. You can tell exactly what the notes are: citrus-floral, not acidic, rather sweet without being cloying, subtly woody. Fresh upon application, warm and velvety as it dries down. I like it for every day and any season. The longevity isn’t the best, but I don’t mind reapplying; it’s an accessible price point.

  • Ambered sandalwood, floral, and sweet with a woody touch that isn’t too youthful; it smells distinguished. It’s very versatile and I see it as ideal for cold moments.
