This is what happens when France falls in love with roses and creates pure art. Definitely the best rose that exists: elegant, sophisticated, and with that unique French touch. It’s a transparent, vibrant rose thanks to the pepper, ideal for serious events. Luxurious quality, nothing but 👏🏻
A light, realistic, and non-invasive rose: it smells like wet petals the moment you walk into a florist. But it didn’t convince me for a man; maybe it would only suit a deconstructed hipster walking in tight pants. My fragile masculinity prefers more cavernous and loyal scents.
Reading the reviews, I thought it would be floral, but it’s not. For something to be floral, the flower must be the protagonist, and that’s not the case here. DuS is woody and spicy: potent sandalwood with cardamom, pepper, and caraway; the rose is very imagined. It lasts 4-5 hours, projects for only 30 minutes, and then becomes intimate. I’m looking for the rose, and it’s not there.
The purest rose I’ve ever smelled in a perfume. Intimate, delicate, and refined. Saying it’s for women because it’s rose is reductive; you don’t get it. It could be unisex, but it’s so real it’s not ‘sweet’; it’s ‘natural’, fresh, and organic, like a freshly cut flower. I’d classify it as masculine unisex; it makes me want to wear my best white cotton shirt. It hurts that it’s discontinued; God willing, it will return.
It was the time to buy it because everyone was talking about it. I tried it and at the time it didn’t seem like much to me, so I just kept it. It came out in 2017, and today, being more mature, I use it and understand the magic. I never thought flowers could look masculine; it’s a rose trapped in a bottle. Now I understand Cartier’s prestige. It’s discontinued, so I’m lucky to have an old batch. It’s a 10, delicate, for special occasions. There’s nothing else like it.
A delight. A flanker that has nothing to do with the original. I got it a long time ago in a Facebook group, almost full with the box, and I’m still surprised by the luck. Fresh and spicy opening with a real bouquet rose, drying into a slightly spicy floral woodiness. It’s my fragrance for mild rainy days. It doesn’t project much, but it accompanies me for 7 hours and I enjoy every minute. A work of art.
It’s soft. At first, it smells like rose and something citrusy, perhaps not indicated on the website: it’s between roses with acidic lime, nutmeg, and a touch of sandalwood. After 4-5 hours, it loses strength; the cardamom feels linear and faint, the pepper is there, but I don’t recognize the caraway. It’s very well blended, but they should have turned up the volume. I use it for certain occasions, like ‘Do you want to know?’ with someone who knows you like fragrances, or at events with physical closeness like movies or theater. I don’t think it’s suitable for work; it’s a ‘Declaration’. I recommend not buying blindly if you don’t like scents with rose. I note it as masculine, though a woman could wear it. It’s a scent of class without losing itself, soft, calm, elegant, and fresh. Moderate climates. I loved it, love at first breath. For those who couldn’t get it, it’s back on sale on the Cartier website in a 2x30ml presentation. So yes, it’s back, although I don’t know if in physical stores. If you can buy it, do it now. It’s the best spicy floral perfume for men that exists.
One of Cartier’s most iconic perfumes, though sadly discontinued. It’s a jewel of perfumery. The nose is Mathilde Laurent, who has already created several wonders for the house, like Les Heures Voyageuses with oud. Declaration D’un Soir combines spices like cardamom and pepper with rose and sandalwood with exquisite mastery, with none dominating. The dry-down is the best: a woody and aromatic base upon which a very soft and elegant talcated rose appears and disappears. Everything breathes elegance and sophistication. It’s like smelling someone of exquisite taste, used to luxury but cultured and erudite, who has seen the world, is a sycophant but shuns the vulgar.
It could perfectly be a niche perfume. It’s very elegant and fresh, conveying cleanliness. It’s a VERY REALISTIC rose scent, ideal for unisex and to wear with a shirt. BEAST MODE 🤙 It’s not very youthful, but it is fresh (no warm autumn/winter notes), so it’s very versatile. WATCH OUT FOR THIS 😉
2024: Finally tried this scent, and honestly, it didn’t work for me at all. It smells like roses, very feminine. As a man, I don’t feel like walking down the street smelling like roses; this doesn’t captivate at all. It’s just something to sniff, nothing more. 6/10.
Antonio del Canal from Fraganceando said that if we saw a solitary bottle of Déclaration d’un Soir in a perfumery, knowing it touches on niche and is discontinued, we should grab it instantly. I’d been hunting for this ‘elixir of the gods’ in every shop I entered—not because of his suggestion, but because I’d already sniffed it before, only to find sad testers hidden behind bottles. I was tempted to ask sales assistants if they could sell me a tester, but I knew they can’t sell anything without a label and price, and selling testers is strictly forbidden. So, when an assistant from a certain chain asked if she could help, I told her I was very interested in Déclaration d’un Soir but knew it was discontinued. She searched her computer just to confirm that, indeed, the perfume had vanished from the map. I thanked her, and as I was leaving, she called me back to say she’d check another database. To my surprise, she found a single unit in another city, reserved it for me, and today I was finally able to pick it up. Fortunately, if, as Oscar Segovia says, Déclaration d’un Soir returns, it would be fantastic news.
DdS opens with black pepper, cardamom, and an anise-like base (I assume from caraway). A few minutes later, a freshly cut, wet rose emerges, blending with the spicy and soft woody sandalwood. The result is spicy, refined, elegant, and clean. It could be unisex, though I think it leans more toward men, perhaps depending on each person’s pH. It would look great on gentlemen; I think it’s a great proposal and another way to wear rose without being the typical rose/oud combo. What a pity they discontinued it. Absolutely spectacular. It opens spicy with a fresh rose that makes you fall in love immediately. It has that almost niche vibe, not for everyone, with elegance very much in the Cartier line. Ideal for a fine dining dinner in winter or autumn. It’s for conquering. Wish Cartier would launch a flanker of this flanker, haha.
High-quality fragrance, made in Cartier: fresh, versatile, elegant, and mature (30+), totally unisex with a very slight masculine nuance, especially as it dries down. It’s a flanker of the Declaration EDT that keeps the base but evolves into a fresh rose. It doesn’t fall into the classic heavy, strong women’s roses of the 2000s, nor the putrid rose type like Toy Boy. It has a soft sandalwood base that makes it more masculine, wearable, and elegant. It’s not a 10-12 hour bomb; it lasts 6-7 hours without being overwhelming, soft and refined. Made for you to smell yourself and let others catch a whiff. If you want something strong for the pub, get something else. This is a gem of generalist perfumery for under 100 euros, soft and elegant, far from cloying trends. I discovered this perfume thanks to a YouTuber who spoke highly of it, and I decided to take the plunge to find it. It was love at first sniff, what a pure rose scent! Wearing it gives the sensation of being transported to a garden full of roses. In the opening, it smells of black pepper, then the rose arrives, the authentic protagonist alongside nutmeg, which gives it a pleasant touch. As it dries, it remains rose with sandalwood. It’s exquisite, elegant, pleasant, and very well made. Very versatile; it doesn’t hit you hard in the heat nor go unnoticed in the cold. Moderate longevity, about 6 hours, but with a powerful trail that isn’t invasive.
Finally! Something that hooks me again; I’m obsessively rubbing it on my clothes. What a beauty. Soapy, woody, a real love at first sniff. Déclaration brings memories of mystical, formal, and salty cleanliness, like Hermès scents that smell like a wealthy architect, Grace Kelly in Portofino, or multi-star restaurants. Although it leans unisex with a masculine bias, if you push the machine, you can make it your own if you’re a woman, where it offers a plus of contrast. It’s luminous, full of serene energy: the cleanliness and order it emanates are to be praised. A festival of cardamom and notes placed with great class, creating a rounded aroma full of personality. A ten.
A while ago I was in a relationship with someone who loved bouquets of roses. I gifted them several, so I have the natural scent very much in mind. Déclaration d’Un Soir smells exactly like that: a fresh rose with a freshly cut stem. It’s incredible what they’ve achieved, photorealistic if ever there was, combining the flower with the green aroma of the stem. Naturally, it has a spicy touch and woody undertones, but the star is the rose from start to finish. It’s radiant, alive, energetic, nothing pastely or suffocating. Pity they discontinued it (it’s no longer on the official website), though you can still find it in some Spanish stores. A gem worth trying at least once in your life.

I love Cartier. As has been said, ‘Declaration d Un Soir’ isn’t the same as the original from the 90s, but it retains part of its aura and is instantly recognizable. It’s an excellent interpretation: a spicy opening where pepper and caraway, tamed more than in Ellena’s version, gently subdue the cardamom. This blends with the sweet, woody nuance of nutmeg to present a glorious, unmistakable, and radiant rose. What kind of rose? I have no idea, but between spicy and woody (perhaps due to the sandalwood), it appears velvety, warm, sensual, and carries an animal touch that elevates it rather than hiding it. It’s not a cloying rose seeking to die as an ornamental flower, but an exuberant, elegant, almost haughty one that, with an arrogant bearing, doesn’t seek to overwhelm but to ensure you don’t forget it. I see it as a masculine fragrance that, on a well-carried woman, could cause havoc. Far from current trends, it doesn’t clash and invites you to leave your sneakers and shorts at home to step into an adult, sober, intense, and exciting world.
Elegant, refined, and seductive scent without an outrageous price tag. It’s my favorite from the Declaration line. In my opinion, it’s totally unisex, though slightly leaning masculine due to the cardamomo opening and the sandalwood base.
To Cristian2021, I’m not sure if it’s been discontinued, but I bought the 100ml bottle at El Corte Inglés yesterday without any issues, and with the 10% discount, it was a steal 🙂

It’s a niche scent in a designer bottle, simple and direct. An elegant yet masculine rose, which is rare for its genre, but Declaration d’Un Soir breaks the mold. Perfect for a shirt-on date: equal parts sensuality and cleanliness.
Starts with metallic rose from the iso, like freshly cut stems with cardamomo. Then comes the pepper, caraway, and something earthy, maybe nutmeg, closing with fresh and spiced rose, clean and masculine. Low projection (I needed 8 sprays), lasts about 6 hours. Spring/summer unisex, not for formal occasions: clean but with a messy undertone. I imagine the wearer in an impeccable white shirt, tousled hair, and an easy smile. Pleasant: 7/10, Interesting: 5/10, Versatile: 7/10, Original: 6/10.
Wow! After so long, using it again was pure magic. Clean, fresh, deep rose with character and very sexy, always the protagonist while the other notes dance to enhance it. Within minutes, an earthy accord from the spices reminds me of watering rose bushes in spring at my old job; I used to approach curiously and now I feel it again. It doesn’t change much, which I appreciate: it doesn’t need anyone else at the party; the majestic rose deserves attention from start to finish.
