It’s a gourmand fragrance that smells great—creamy and perfect for nighttime occasions. I really love sweets, so this is right up my alley. I smelled it on a coworker a while back; she never revealed what it was, but it suited her perfectly.
This Azzaro is an update to the beloved 1978 Azzaro Pour Homme. For me, tonka bean and vanilla take center stage, while the floral and fruity notes are very subtle. It only reminded me of the 1978 original for a brief moment. It’s aimed at a younger crowd, more casual than the original, and is a solid oriental scent for cold days or freezing nights. It has good trail and longevity, but it felt a bit generic—it doesn’t stand out among this type of fragrance and lacks the unforgettable aroma of the classic old Azzaro.
This Azzaro is an update of the beloved 1978 Azzaro Pour Homme. For me, tonka bean is the star alongside vanilla, while the floral and fruity notes are very subtle. It only reminded me of the original 1978 version for a moment. It’s designed for a younger crowd, more informal than the original, and is a proper oriental fragrance for cold days or freezing nights. It has good projection and longevity, but it felt somewhat generic, doesn’t stand out among this type of perfume, and lacks that unforgettable scent of the old Azzaro.
I agree with the previous comments; although I didn’t smell it much myself, I discovered it has an older and a younger sibling. I tested it on my dad’s shirt and immediately noticed the vanilla and tonka bean. It’s the younger brother of ‘1 Million’ and the older brother of ‘The Golden Secret’. Having them in the same house (with different owners), I compared them and came to this conclusion: -1 Million: For clubs or parties, it’s stronger and more penetrating. -Azzaro Pour Homme Elixir: The sweeter, lighter version for night outings, movies, or formal dinners. -The Golden Secret: Thanks to its sophisticated and soft trail, with a price and longevity suitable for daily wear or the office without being overwhelming, ideal if you like 1 Million but find it too intense. A good option for 1 Million lovers looking for something less showy.
I agree with everyone—it’s a great men’s fragrance, rich and masculine, with a nice trail. After the strong opening fades, it becomes very pleasant for women. Give it a try.

Agreeing with AngelMarc: it smells very much like One Million and Banderas’ The Golden Secret. No coincidence that Michel Girard worked on both. As Priethcallas mentioned, vanilla and tonka bean dominate. Even if the notes aren’t identical, the result is similar, though this Azzaro feels more formal and relaxed compared to One Million’s flashy, nocturnal vibe. It’s not bad—it has longevity and projection—but it sounds very generic. I expected something more original from Azzaro and don’t see a comparison to the original. For me, the best option remains Azzaro Pour Homme Night Time. A letdown.
Honestly, I don’t see much connection to One Million or its clones…
I don’t know if mine is a reformulated version; I tested it on several cold days and felt nothing, just a hint of sweetness from the vanilla and tonka. It has a somewhat citrus opening, but it doesn’t speak to me. Poor projection and weak longevity. Also quite synthetic. But all that passes on my skin. I’ll keep it for summer and use it as something fresh, like Natura fragrances. Best regards from Argentina.
Another little treasure from the collection of the great Bofifa (thanks and a hug, dear friend). After five sprays to get a more secure olfactory impression, I believe it’s a completely independent fragrance if we compare it to the unforgettable Pour Homme, one of the absolute studs of the 80s. It was much more animalic, making me feel totally secure and adult despite my young age, ready to live dreamy nights in the hottest and most renowned clubs of the time. This Elixir goes somewhat in the oriental gourmand direction, even if it’s not totally sweet, but quite spicy and aromatic with a curious smoky sensation in the middle of its life. If you’re looking for an intense, smoky cherry scent with a drier, more noticeable note, mitigated by vanilla and tonka in its development with a good presence in the first hours, it could be an interesting nighttime alternative.
Since it’s becoming hard to find, I invite you to try a perfume that is equivalent to it: Essencial Elixir by Natura. Obviously for less than a third of what Azzaro might cost, and I’d dare to say it’s even of superior quality.
Azzaro Elixir is a fragrance I received through the generosity of Jerry Drake, who knew I wanted to try it, and I must say it exceeded all my expectations. It conquered me, and I ran to buy a 100ml bottle, snagging a 2012 batch. First and foremost: it has NOTHING to do with One Million. It’s related to Xeryus Rouge (I have the vintage) and Dunhill Desire, but it does so with a changing personality that doesn’t give away the ending. It’s in the dry-down phase where the resemblance appears, to the point that on my nose, Elixir and vintage Xeryus Rouge smell very similar. I suppose some undisclosed note is at play in Elixir; probably the pepper combined with geranium gives it that characteristic aroma, though it’s not as noticeable in Elixir. Then, in the dry-down, they change again. Before that, Elixir starts aromatic, and quickly you feel berry and red fruit accords with an amber-resinous base, aniseed lavender; it’s like a soft-sweet liqueur of red fruits, cherry, and vanilla. With that smoky touch, like pipe smoke, it’s not cloying and invites you to sniff it over and over. Despite the similarity to Xeryus Rouge, I believe Elixir is more versatile and easier to like because of that subtle smoky touch that makes it softer. It’s a fragrance completely outside current fashion trends but fully modern; if you can connect with it, you’ll feel that Elixir has magic that is rarely found. That red color suits it perfectly; the red of blood, life, and creation. It’s a fruity and oriental scent that is very masculine and manly. It lasts about 6-8 hours on my skin; if you put your nose under the shirt, its delicious scents are clearly detectable. It’s not meant to leave a trail, but it doesn’t need to; it doesn’t need to make a scene to stand out. It has a huge, confident personality, and I’m sure it will make you happy to wear it and make the people around you happy too. It’s as if when they created this fragrance, they wanted to create a luminous, happy mood—the kind of feeling you have when celebrating a nice birthday or anniversary. Normally I’d say goodbye, but today I’ll say Bienvenue!!
Azzaro Elixir arrived thanks to Jerry Drake’s generosity; he knew I had to try it, and it exceeded my expectations: it won me over, and I bought a 100ml bottle from 2012. It’s nothing like One Million, though it shares some DNA with Xeryus Rouge vintage and Dunhill Desire, but with a shifting personality that keeps you guessing. The similarity to Xeryus Rouge is so strong in the heart that they smell identical to my nose; I guess some undeclared note, perhaps pepper and geranium, gives that characteristic scent, though it’s less noticeable in Elixir. As it dries down, it changes again: starting aromatic, then fruity accords of blackcurrant and red berries emerge with a resinous, ambered, lavender-anise base, like a smooth liqueur of red cherries and vanilla. That smoky touch, reminiscent of pipe smoke, keeps it from being cloying and invites you to sniff it again. Despite its similarity to Xeryus Rouge, Elixir is more versatile and easier to enjoy thanks to that subtle smokiness that makes it softer. It’s an out-of-fashion fragrance that’s fully modern; if you connect with it, you’ll feel its uncommon magic. Red suits it perfectly: the red of blood, life, and creation. It’s a fruity, oriental scent that’s very masculine. It lasts 6-8 hours; if you press your nose under your shirt, its delicious whispers rise. It doesn’t project a trail, but it doesn’t need to: it doesn’t need a scene to stand out; it has huge, confident personality. I’m sure smelling it will make you happy, as well as anyone accompanying you. It seems they wanted to create a luminous, happy mood, like a birthday or a lovely anniversary. Usually, I say goodbye with an ‘au revoir,’ but today I’ll say ‘Bienvenue!!’
AZZARO POUR HOMME ELIXIR: First off, it has nothing to do with One Million or Essencial Elixir by Natura. For a moment, it reminds me of Givenchy Xeryous Rouge, but then it changes direction. It has a classic vibe; it’s a contemporary adult perfume that holds the memory of the Azzaro Original, a modern reinterpretation of a classic that refuses to die. I liked it, but I don’t think it’s a current trend. It dries down beautifully and becomes a very lovely scent. It’s a noble fragrance, with a vintage touch but nothing outdated, and of good quality. It’s not out of date; on the contrary, it’s current, though not trendy. It’s for a mature, serious, and elegant personality. Scent: 8.0. Projection: moderate, but noticeable without being a bomb. Longevity: about 7-8 hours. Recommended.

For me, it’s a mix of the classic Azzaro you know and Halloween Man… not One Million. Although Halloween does resemble One Million, the latter is much stickier and harsher; Halloween is more liquor-like, which is what reminds me of this. I’m a fan of Azzaro and their flankers, and this one hasn’t disappointed me…
How can people say this smells like One Million??? I think it’s just a slightly modernized Azzaro Pour Homme, without reaching those sensual blends. Good longevity, but the projection isn’t that great.

The perfume of my 20s 🫶
I bought it blind and it wasn’t exactly what I expected, but it performs very well. You can tell it keeps the DNA of the classic; they toned down the fougère notes and added something sweet, fruity, and amber that gives it density and a masculine character. The real achievement is how it balances the classic with the modern in 2009, making it timeless. The evolution is rich: the geranium rises with a mentholated touch, the moss and lavender stay true, and that slightly resinous fruity sweetness comes through. Longevity and projection are moderate, but it holds up well in cold weather or at night. I like it a lot and use it casually in autumn/winter. The price is excellent, though it’s hard to find since it’s discontinued. I think the Intense version is superior, but this one has its own identity and is equally enjoyable. Rating: 8/10. Bought at Joy Perfumes, Chile.
This Azzaro has always been my dad’s favorite. I searched everywhere, but the big department stores here told me they no longer carry it. Does anyone with experience have any similar suggestions? I’m looking for alternatives before risking ordering it online from another country. Thanks!
