  • What a gorgeous essence—mysterious, balsamic, and super woody; I feel it’s perfect for the cold. I wear it at night and it gives me the sensation of being cozy in an Alpine cabin with pink wine and a fireplace. It has a smoky touch and seems to carry tobacco. Sometimes it reminds me of Argos Triumph of Bacchus or Mancera Red Tobacco, but less sweet. If you have those two, you don’t need this. It projects one arm’s length and lasts 7-8 hours on skin. It’s unisex, though many men might find it more feminine. In summary, it’s not the most original in the world, but I love it and enjoy it immensely.

  • To me, this is an interesting perfume that intrigues me and makes me try to figure out exactly what it smells like because I can’t easily identify its individual notes. It has a potent opening that doesn’t smell especially fruity to me. Personally, I can’t perceive the plum or pear, nor any juicy sweetness that would make me think of fruit. This opening already hints to my nose that it will be a very balsamic and woody perfume. When it dries, it’s dominated by resins, seasoned with a bit of incense, woods, and a faint heart of white flowers. As it develops, the flowers fade away and the rest of the notes merge into an amber accord. Its trail is moderate and its longevity on my skin is 8-9 hours. It’s a perfume that doesn’t resemble anything I’ve smelled and I consider it for late autumn and winter use. Despite its originality, I don’t like it enough to buy a bottle, though I’ll keep using the couple of decants I have to enjoy its mystery. Scent 6.5/10, Longevity 8.5/10, Sillage 7/10, Value 6.5/10, Versatility 6/10, Packaging 7/10. Would I buy again? No.

Wood Jasmin is a mysterious, dark, yet pleasant night fragrance, like wearing a scarf on a winter day. It’s hard to distinguish the notes, but for me, it’s a fruity scent with resins and lots of wood. You can smell the incense, so it’s smoky, even with a touch of tobacco. Don’t let the name fool you: the jasmine isn’t the star; it’s barely noticeable once it dries. It’s above all warm and balsamic. It’s unique; it doesn’t remind me of anything. Super intense and potent, ideal for winter. The trail is high at first and then fades, with very good longevity of about 6 hours. I see it as unisex, leaning masculine. Of the BDK samples I have, it’s the one I liked least at first; for now, I wouldn’t wear it, but it was interesting because of how different it is—a true olfactory experience.

  • I haven’t written on Fragrantica in ages, but yesterday I decided to because I blind-bought Wood Jasmin. After reading English reviews that painted it as a disaster, I was stunned when I finally tried it. I know taste is subjective, but I don’t understand how anyone could hate this masterpiece. I knew it would be a challenge, with comments like ‘smells like a toilet’ or ‘disgusting patchouli’ looming. With due caution, I brought the nozzle close to my nose… instant love! Even though I have plenty of experience buying blind, this was a rare stroke of luck. I applied it to my arm and the opening was insane: fleshy, sweet, dark plums driven by incense, which is the star. It’s one of the best openings I’ve ever experienced—intense and seductive. Then it settles into a very subtle floral phase where the rose stands out more than the jasmine, which is almost invisible. The ‘woody’ character comes from the incense, giving it a balsamic, creamy touch without being suffocating. It reminded me of Kenzo Flower Oriental, but sweeter and with more incense. Peruvian balsam keeps that creaminess through the dry down, handled very well so it’s not as intense as in other perfumes. It’s definitely an oriental; the name is confusing because the jasmine goes unnoticed on my skin. The longevity is exceptional, perhaps best for temperate or cold climates. No offense intended, but I think you have to drop your prejudices and try it to form your own opinion. Without a doubt, it’s the best purchase of the year and already has a prime spot in my collection.
