I love oud perfumes, even if it’s a love-hate relationship. It’s like watching horror movies as a kid: I’d rip the remote to see how they dismember the protagonist 🫣. This opens with a hit of leather and fermented oud, ‘stinky’ but fresh and impressive (not unpleasant, right? What is ‘fecal, stinky, cheese smell’?). It’s curious and overwhelming, 100% artisanal just the way I like it. Strong, with citrus and floral touches, but the oud and leather dominate the opening and last 3-4 hours without fading. Longevity: when you get bored, you shower.
I bought a decant after testing it in-store, and it smells very much like Rasasi’s Oudh Al Boruzz Asrar Indonesia. It’s a perfume loaded with oud and leather, heavy and not easy for those who don’t know these notes, but a hit for experts. It’s elegant and, like the Rasasi, breaks the mundane with that citrus-animalic blend. To me, it feels more elegant and nocturnal because the oud and leather stand out more. Maybe it dries down differently: the Borntikoff is more woody, while the Asrar dries down citrusy and fresh. It’s very pricey for 30 ml, but if you want that scent, look for Oudh Asrar Indonesia and you’ll have practically the same thing.
