  It shares with Pour Monsieur the elegance and sophistication, but with an oriental twist thanks to opoponax and a subtle vanilla. It exudes Chanel elegance everywhere. It’s exquisite and versatile, though its longevity isn’t its strongest suit. For that scent, the cons are forgotten. I recommend it more for autumn and winter. I give it a ten.

  Created in 1989 by Jacques Polge, this vintage fragrance (reduced in 2016 with more lemon) opens with lavender and mandarin wrapped in powdery vanilla. As it dries, sweet myrrh and cardamom emerge. It reminds me of Eau Sauvage Parfum but without so much myrrh. It’s delicious and super masculine, but I wouldn’t recommend it to guys under 30 due to that 90s vibe. It lasts 8-9 hours and projects well at first. Classic and elegant for mild days.

  The legendary ‘Pour un Homme’ by Caron, viewed through Polge’s lens. It starts beautifully with mandarin, petit grain, cardamom, and lots of lavender: fresh, aromatic, and slightly spicy, typical of its oriental structure. As the freshness fades, vanillin sweetens the development with opopanax. A touch of oakmoss adds an exotic note alongside the earthy vetiver, which only nuances the dry-down with sober masculinity. Lavender and vanilla set the tone under a stately, retro structure. Three distinct phases of evolution, a discreet but long-lasting trail. I love it because it smells great, it’s understated, perfect for daily wear, and it avoids trendy powdery musks, making it a tasteful alternative. Rating: 8.

  It’s Chanel’s vision of the legendary Pour un Homme by Caron. It starts beautifully with mandarin, petit grain, and lavender, then vanilla sweetens everything with a touch of opoponax. A hint of moss and vetiver adds exoticism and sober masculinity. It avoids the trendy powdery dry-down; it’s discreet, ideal for daily wear, and very well made. Rating: 8.

  Masculine, classic, and very Chanel. It’s a soft oriental with lavender and mandarin that give it freshness. The vanilla and opoponax add a sophisticated powdery sweetness, reminiscent of Cristóbal Balenciaga. Perfect as a wardrobe staple in a good collection.

  Classic, timeless, and packed with all the Chanel essence. It’s a soft, versatile oriental with lavender that gives it a masculine edge and a sweet mandarin citrus touch. Less flashy than Rive Gauche, it evolves into an oriental thanks to moderate vanilla and opoponax, which lend a powdery, sophisticated sweetness. Reminds me of Cristobal by Balenciaga, though this one highlights benzoin and amber more; both share that line of soft, French orientals. Perfect for the back of a good collection.

  The Polge name at Chanel is as strong as the chords in this masterpiece, which reminds me a lot of Bois du Portugal but with an oriental twist and less green notes. Its performance on my skin is 6 hours, but it leaves a persistent skin trail that comes alive with heat. It’s a hard-to-find collector’s piece, ideal if you already own Bois du Portugal. A solid flanker without frills, made by the great Monsieur Polge.

  Exceptional. It takes the chypre base of the EDT and modernizes it with vanilla, lavender, and opoponax, giving it an oriental touch. It doesn’t aim for realistic notes but assembles perfectly. It smells fresh and warm at the same time, discreet yet with great longevity. One of those few that no longer exist.

  Exceptional. Class and elegance in abundance. It takes the EDT’s chypre with its citrus and oakmoss and modernizes it with its classic vanilla-lavanda combo plus opoponax to orientalize it, with a spicy twist. Don’t expect hyper-realistic notes because there aren’t any, but it delivers its effect: it feels very well assembled, a whole greater than the sum of its parts. It feels both fresh and warm at once, discreet yet persistent. It’s one of those perfumes that are rarely made anymore.

  I love it. It starts floral with lavender and mandarin, then moves to nutmeg, closing with vanilla, vetiver, moss, and opoponax. It’s classic, evolves beautifully, and is super versatile for any season or time of day. Performance is decent with moderate sillage.

  Undoubtedly, elegance bottled as fragrance, despite its age, it still turns heads. My first encounter was in my teens when my mom bought it for me; I have it again today. It doesn’t smell exactly like I remember, but it still holds its essence with those citrus and woody tones. I only wear it on special occasions when I need to dress up.
