Descripción

Percival by Parfums de Marly is an aromatic citrus fragrance for men and women. Launched in 2018, the nose behind this composition is Hamid Merati-Kashani. The top notes reveal a vibrant freshness with lavender, mandarin, bergamot, geranium, and pink pepper; the heart unfolds floral and spicy elegance thanks to Hedione, violet, jasmine, coriander, cinnamon, and cardamom; while the base notes leave a warm and woody trail with ambroxan, Amberwood, musk, balsam fir, Clearwood, and tonka bean.

  • I had a rough start with this fragrance. I imagined something brighter, more potent, and with better projection. It wasn’t like that, but upon using it and comparing it to similar designer scents, it’s very good, elegant, and discreet. It’s not a projection bomb, but it has great performance and the scent is pleasant. In the opening, lavender, citrus notes, jasmine, and musk stand out. If you have the chance, give it two or three tries and compare it; that’s when the appreciation starts. Scent 8/10, Longevity 8/10, Projection 6/10.

PERCIVAL is one of the safest fragrances to make the crossover into the niche world. A soft scent in every way: aromatic, woody, and citrusy, with white floral touches. It gives a powdery, fresh, and sweet vibe, excellent for the office, business men, and meetings. And YES, it’s a compliment magnet and great for everyday use all year round.

  • FDD Percival: My favorite among the PDMs I know. I know it’s not new or revolutionary, but it blew my mind from the first contact; I knew I had to own it. It’s in my top 5. Citrus, aromatic, floral, quite masculine to my taste, extremely versatile: day, night, casual, formal, dates, etc.

  • I expected more from this house. I understand they make proposals to convince the masses, but they shouldn’t fall for imitating much cheaper perfumes. In my opinion, it’s an imitation of Montblanc Legend; they look very similar. There’s more depth in the dry-down, but little else. Sillage is scarce, projection is terrible, and longevity is poor for the price; it fades to skin-level after an hour. For me, this isn’t niche; it could be any designer, and not even an expensive one.

In my quest for a third PDM, I ventured into decants to avoid getting defeated. Among them was Percival. It’s the ‘barbershop’ take on PDM, and wow, there’s quality. I even feel it’s better than Platinum Egoist, which I like. It takes a greener, woodier path with smoky accords in the opening, and not as heavy on lavender as I thought. That makes it more versatile, usable in any weather and occasion, but since I already have Platinum Egoist, I won’t go beyond this decant. So far, Sedley still wins for my next PDM.

  • I don’t want to ramble since the scent is already described, but after trying a decant, the only thing is that, while I like it a lot, it’s not worth the price. It reminds me of designer scents (Fierce, Platinum Egoist, Montblanc Legend…) with more quality and performance, but ultimately it’s a generic aroma. At this price, logic dictates seeking originality. The positives are its great performance, ease of liking, and versatility. At this price, I recommend trying it or buying a decant, not buying blind.

  • Percival fits anywhere, office or formal event, day or night; it’s an all-rounder. Very complimentary. It was my first niche scent and a sure hit; I have about 20 perfumes, and along with Angels Share, they’re my workhorses.

  • I thought it would be fresh, simple, aromatic, and citrusy like Sauvage EDT, but it’s super amber with spices. It leans more toward Sauvage Elixir but refined and better balanced. I love it and it doesn’t feel sporty like I read; it’s more for everyday wear, office, or going out. Performance is average. If I run out, I’ll buy it again.

  • Abercrombie Fierce but with next-level ingredients, better longevity and projection. Having it all is redundant, but if your wallet allows it, go for this instead of the Fierce.

  • Really surprised by Percival; it’s a tremendous and super-versatile perfume for any season. Lots of compliments, sublime quality. Some compare it to Montblanc Legend, and if it is similar, the quality is different. Depending on your budget, but in short, it’s worth every penny—a marvel of perfumery.

  • Percival is a Montblanc Legend with better longevity and projection. Nothing more. Parfums de Marly is a niche house selling niche-priced perfumes that smell like designer scents. As I said, it lasts longer than designer fragrances, but it feels almost the same. Is it worth paying those prices? For me, it’s a resounding no; I’d rather spend that money on other niches with more original scents.

  • In my humble opinion, comparing PdM Percival to Fierce or Legend just because they share the same DNA is like comparing a Porsche Boxster S to a Nissan Micra CC because they’re both sports cars and convertibles. Percival is simple but exquisite, standing out for its class, even if it’s not for formal occasions. I notice the geranium and violet in the opening, and the magic of the musk comes out as it dries. The longevity on my skin is above average. It’s a perfume that generates compliments, usable all year but preferably during the day. Completely versatile across seasons. One of my favorites from PdM.

  • peperinafragancia

To me, it’s an aroma between Montblanc Legend and Burberry for Men. In fact, as the hours pass, it seems more similar to the latter. It’s a Legend that’s a bit more fruity and sweet, with subtle notes of bergamot, orange, and musk that make it more pleasant and less serious. It also has a classic vibe like CK Eternity, that fresh, herbal men’s cologne. Like other fragrances from the house, it has a richness of notes that turn over naturally and cohesively, maintaining a balance between clean notes like lavender and sweet fruity notes.

  • What I’m about to say might sound like blasphemy, but this reminds me a lot of Dior Sauvage. I’m not saying it as a negative; I actually like Sauvage and see this Percival as its niche, refined version. It smells very natural, nothing synthetic, with high quality typical of this house. It doesn’t carry the sweetness of the famous Layton or Herod, but instead dives into aromatic fougère territory. I’m not sure if I’d buy it myself; I find it too generic to justify that price, but there’s no doubt it’s a beautiful, well-made, friendly, versatile perfume that gets compliments wherever you go.

  • I’m not an expert, but I’ve slowly fallen in love with this rich scent. After reading many reviews, I decided to try it blind and it was a hit. I get that it’s a bit like Legend Spirit, but it’s very different: it feels completely natural and invites people to come closer to smell it. For me, 10 out of 10, definitely a blind buy that will please everyone.

  • I bought Percival blind as my first niche fragrance, and although I read good reviews about longevity, I was shocked by the box: solid royal blue, no stripes or anything, looking like cardboard paste, and I thought it was fake. But after buying it from a trusted source and checking Parfums de Marly, I saw the packaging had changed and I got a May 2023 batch at 82% (previously it was 78%). I can’t compare the scent or longevity to the old version, but this 82% batch doesn’t seem to last long on me. I usually get too much longevity from perfumes, so while the scent is elegant and casual, the longevity is disappointing. It feels high quality, versatile, like ADG Profumo, suitable for any situation from formal to the gym (though it’s pricey for the gym). Maybe it needs more maceration, but I think performance is dropping due to the reformulation.

  • Conde Di Amante

Stop talking about percentages; this is pure ambrosia. A perfect signature fragrance for Southerners who demand something difficult: a fresh scent with enough power to wear it beyond summer and that actually projects. That’s Percival. It lasts 8 hours on my skin, even with a 2023 batch. My 2020 decant didn’t last this long. As Carcañuelo said: ‘if you want longevity, try putting 98 octane gas on yourself.’ It’s fresh, packed with natural ingredients, and should last all day. Three sprays at 8:00 AM and I can still smell it, though very close to the skin.

  • Monty Phyton

Don Algodón but expensive: bergamot, lavender, jasmine, and musk. The drydown is what gives it its signature distinction, but… who’s going to lean in and sniff your wrist or neck after smelling Don Algodón? You’re conquered in intimacy, but to attract someone, you need more of a hook at the start. 🕯️ 7/10.🔥

  • Darwin Ruiz Ruiz

Total disappointment. In terms of performance, it projects nothing and lasts maybe five hours. As for the notes, there’s nothing new or striking; even the term ‘indescribable’ falls short, as I can’t identify or distinguish any specific notes.

  • byrgertidesson

The new formula is an absolute hit on my skin: it projects way more than the previous version and keeps me clean and fresh all day, which is essential in my hot and humid city. The scent is a Fierce upgrade with a massive quality leap, though the ambroxan base takes away a bit of its charm, feeling like a forced addition to make it more extroverted and stripping away that element of surprise.

  • A much-criticized fragrance for its similarity to others, yet it does a great job of keeping you fresh for several hours. It has surprising performance for a fresh scent and equally good projection; it’s the fresh fragrance I reach for most among my other 10. Scent: 9/10 (nothing surprising or new, but you can smell the quality). Longevity: 8/10. Projection: 8/10. A very good perfume if you want a fresh scent with great longevity, versatile and easy to enjoy.

  • A very normal and generic fragrance. If I smell it with my eyes closed and someone tells me it’s a drugstore cologne, I’d believe them. It’s not that it smells bad, but it’s the typical ‘blue fragrance’ scent. I let my wife sniff it without her knowing what it was, and she said the same thing: it’s just something ordinary.

  • I understand that at first, many might think it’s a generic scent or offers too little for the price—I fell into that hasty conclusion myself. However, I recommend wearing it and testing it thoroughly in different situations and environments, because this fragrance doesn’t do justice to its first impression or dry-down. And yes, it’s obvious that Percival draws inspiration from the DNA of Fierce or Legend, something Parfums de Marly has done with many of their bestsellers: taking a proven successful idea and adding that extra touch of refinement that the French house once had. That said, claiming it’s identical to them, in my opinion, means you don’t truly know Percival in detail, because the quality and depth of both are worlds apart. The longevity, at least in older versions (those listed with 78% alcohol), far exceeds the average for this type of olfactory pyramid. People have even asked me about it more than 9 hours after I applied it; sometimes it seems like it’s gone, probably due to the ambroxan, but don’t underestimate it in this regard. It’s very versatile and often earns compliments, making it a perfect signature scent for anyone wanting something that combines distinction with ease of use. The price is obviously high, but we’re talking about luxury goods, and in that realm, Percival doesn’t seem out of place within Parfums de Marly’s catalog (for me, it’s a top 3) nor when compared to other perfumes in that price range.

  • OdiseoBcn

A fragrance sharing DNA with Fierce, Eternity, and other classic scents. On my skin, the dry-down is almost unpleasant, creamy, and fails to convey any sense of quality or exclusivity. Longevity and projection are huge, but it’s nothing memorable and lacks a unique personality. Test before buying, and certainly, the price is exaggerated for what it offers.

  • Don’t let yourself be carried away by reviews from people who haven’t even had or properly tried it… (I see many of them here). To start, having Fierce by Abercrombie and comparing them side by side, they aren’t the same and in my opinion, they don’t even resemble each other. They might share notes that remind you of them if you smell them independently, but side by side… nothing to do with each other, the difference is very clear. It’s not a generic scent as they mention… if I go to any department store, I don’t find a scent equal or similar. And I certainly browse them frequently to discover new launches or buy something from Dior or Chanel. It’s more about wanting to seem interesting, knowledgeable, and someone very refined and unique, throwing hate at a house like PDM or some perfume like this… if you actually had it, you’d be giving another “review”. Percival is a fresh, youthful, versatile, and very pleasant perfume. It’s guaranteed to please the vast majority of people who smell it; you’re safe… it’s the exact opposite of some challenging, heavy, rare perfume. However, it has excellent performance, projects well in the first hours, and there are bursts as the life fades. On my skin, it lasts about 8-9 hours, and on clothes, the scent stays until you wash it. The fact that it’s a fresh perfume shouldn’t confuse you, as it has very good power and you have to measure the sprays. Without a doubt, it’s a perfume that will work better in casual situations, summer, spring, maybe autumn depending on where you live. Although being so versatile, you could use it all year for any occasion and you’ll be fine. Guaranteed quality from the PDM house, worth trying.

  • Anyone saying it’s the same as Abercrombie has a very mistaken appreciation. Percival has superior quality; the scent is distinct enough to say they aren’t the same. I understand that the fougère-citrus-aromatic construction might bring Fierce to mind, but saying they’re very similar or that owning both is redundant… well, they must have some olfactory alteration. I’d choose Percival a thousand times over Fierce, regardless of the cost.

  • Pabloquinte

I saw it with a very well-supported review by marketers and bought it almost blindly. It’s Montblanc Legend without looking for details. It works for daily wear, the office, and casual moments. A fragrance for any occasion, nothing new. I wouldn’t buy it again. Its performance is good, creating a bubble all day. 15/04/2025: I still don’t understand how they promote this perfume so much as one of their favorites, if not the most. This definitely isn’t recommended; it’s just a normal thing you find in a Montblanc Legend bottle between $40 and $60. Additionally, its performance is terrible; I can’t smell it for more than 2 or 3 hours. Mind you, this costs $320. It’s not justified, I don’t recommend it; probably the worst perfume I’ve ever had.

  • Anyone comparing this to Montblanc Legend doesn’t know what they’re talking about. It’s impressive, made to please, and premium quality. Worth every penny.

  • Javi De Palma

According to Fragrantica it’s unisex, although personally I can’t imagine a woman wearing it. Anyway, to each their own. It’s said there are cheaper perfumes that resemble it, but after testing Absolutely Dark by Zara and Fierce by Abercrombie, I can say that although they share a profile, neither the evolution nor the longevity can compare. Percival is, without a doubt, the freshest fragrance with the most longevity on my skin of all I’ve tested. No imitation comes close in elegance, sophistication, quality, or performance. I have five Parfums de Marly, and without a doubt, Percival is my favorite. It seems to me to be a very underrated fragrance. For me, it’s the best fresh perfume both for olfactory quality and performance. Even in very hot climates, it behaves like a true beast. I think those who criticize have never had a full bottle; with 1 ml it’s impossible to evaluate the performance. I adore this fragrance and recommend it enthusiastically.

  • This is the ‘final boss’ of daily-use perfumes, maybe very expensive for being so ‘simple,’ but it simply works. Blind buy? Yes, although it can disappoint. It’s nothing extraordinary, and you might find something cheaper on the market. That said, don’t expect the quality this has.

  • Total disappointment for this little thing costing nearly 300 lereles. Generic aroma, made to please without more, the deodorant or perfume a high school kid would wear daily, competing with Borealia (please, I’m not comparing them). Niche price for something little to no purposeful, unjustified, and with very normal, tending to poor, performance. And they say Layton is generic… Well, this wouldn’t out of place in a supermarket bottle.

  • Antonio Tapia

Those who say it’s a generic scent don’t know this fragrance well; give it time and you’ll realize the great quality of its ingredients.

  • Simple and versatile fragrance. Smells good, reminds me of L’Immensite by LV in its dry down. It’s very expensive for being so generic, although it’s also true that its result isn’t that of a standard designer fragrance. Lasts, holds, and projects well.

  • Despite the quality of the ingredients, I don’t see a reason to justify buying a fragrance so generic and bland as hospital food. It’s absurd for a niche brand to have such mediocre proposals. It will make you smell clean, crisp, and good, yes. But for that price, you get better performance and similar proposals, like Montblanc Legend EDT.

  • This is the perfume I use in spring/summer at home in the evening. It’s simple but sophisticated, soft, and clean. It predisposes me to have a relaxed rest.

  • Currently, this is my signature fragrance. I wear it at any time and in any season. The context ranges from formal to casual. Although the scent is easy to understand and many see it as generic, it’s incomparable to the blues due to its sophistication and freshness, something I value greatly because it gives a sense of absolute cleanliness. The ingredient quality is notable. The projection lasts 1 to 2 hours before becoming intimate, and the skin longevity is 7 to 8 hours. For me, this is the best from PDM. In principle simple, in practice brutally effective.

  • I’ve seen many negative comments, but honestly, in my case, I’d always buy this for daily wear. It’s crisp, elegant, and will get you compliments. It’s an easy-to-please scent, and that’s the idea; it doesn’t have to be complicated just because it’s niche. It smells very different from my usual daily scents; you need to wear it a few times to notice its evolution. Excellent for any occasion and worth 100% if you want a standout daily aroma. (Note: I live in a warm climate, between 30 and 35 degrees).

  • Let me be clear: this fragrance is a very distinct 50/50. I tested it on real skin multiple times, not a quick sniff. Is it bad? No. Does it wear well? Yes. But for me, it’s not special. It smells clean and correct, very easy to wear, yet also too familiar. I can’t find a twist or personality to justify the price of a full bottle. It smells good, but it smells like something I’ve heard a thousand times from modern men. I understand why people defend it: it’s versatile and not annoying. But that’s exactly the problem: it doesn’t generate emotion or identity for me. Sometimes it feels like if you don’t like it, you just “didn’t get it.” In my case, we didn’t connect. Thank god I tested it in a decant; that was enough to form an opinion without spending more. Good fragrance, but not memorable. I wouldn’t buy it full size.
