For me, Patchouli Mania is a perfume that delivers on its promise. If you like patchoulis, there’s something here that respects the raw material and adds nuances without losing its essence. The opening can be a bit strong, but then it settles into a soft cocoa with green notes. I’d give it a 7.5: it’s decent, though it lacks a bit more projection or innovation.
It’s an easy-to-wear patchouli, which is no small feat. The problem with many great perfumes featuring this note is that they tend to be very intense, nocturnal, and seductive, but this one doesn’t fit that category.
It’s a very unoriginal patchouli, almost identical to Davidoff’s Zino. This one dries down soapy and fougère, while Patchouli Mania smells like bitter chocolate, reminiscent of Guerlain’s L’Instant. Either way, nothing revolutionary; I find the other two more interesting. It’s a shame that Essential Parfums disappointed me with this proposal.
