Orchidée Vanille by Van Cleef & Arpels

At first, it didn’t convince me, but I can imagine it would be a lethal weapon in a woman’s hands. As soon as I spray it, I smell that spicy, almost boozy vanilla note, but it lasts the length of a sigh. Then it fades and blends with that sweet, floral side. The almond is there, though not bitter. It lasts well, but the projection is very contained. In short, I’d love to smell it on a woman.

It’s a gem: one of the best vanillas I’ve ever tried. It comes out with notes of orange, dry, slightly powdery, almond, and chocolatey. I’m fascinated by the smell, but the performance is terrible, what a shame. It doesn’t last more than two hours and projects very little, even though I spray it more than 20 times. It also doesn’t cling well to clothes. It could be perfect, but seriously, the performance is among the worst in my collection.

This fragrance is gorgeous. For gourmand lovers, they will definitely like it. It’s a vanilla-scented aroma where chocolate, orange, and flowers also play a role. It’s one of those sweets that isn’t cloying and even non-sweet-tooth people like it. Although at first it might seem like a feminine unisex, as I use it more, I see it’s more unisex. As for longevity, it lasts all day. From when I spray it in the morning until late afternoon/evening. It clings very well to the collar of my shirt, and I like it a lot.

I haven’t tried a vanilla this wonderful in a long time. It’s my favorite without a doubt.

After trying several of these soft vanillas, I’ve realized they’re not for me. Maybe my sense of smell isn’t very sharp, and I feel them very subtly. Orchidee Vanille has a citrusy and fresh point at the beginning and a pleasant dry-down of vanilla and orchid (which reminds me of the old Yves Rocher one). I don’t feel it as gourmand. Its sillage is soft and lasts about 3 hours. I only tested it on cold days, perhaps because it was hot outside. In short, I found it at less than half price and will pass. For this Christmas Eve, I’m going to wear another vanilla that truly sparks my excitement, perhaps insultingly potent, sweet, and synthetic, but one that feels more like my style: Sweet Vanilla by Montale. Top reviews, but the vanilla on my skin reads as citrusy, almond-floral. It didn’t break any rules or surprise me. Projection is zero—scented only for me—and it lasts about 3 hours. Maybe reformulated, but for me, it’s not worth it.

Finally, I have this masterpiece and now I’m like Gollum guarding the box in the closet, far away from everything. I just spray a little on my wrist before bed and I feel like I’m teleporting. I hadn’t even recovered from Shaghaf Oud yet, and this has completely thrown me off. It’s an experience: this vanilla is EXQUISITE, warm, cozy, and sophisticated. It’s perfectly balanced; its trail, though not wide, is perfect for something so delicate. It enchanted me years ago and won’t leave my mind. I hate citrus, but here it’s beautifully blended, giving a spark to a creamy, edible scent (without being vulgar). The mix of almond, chocolate, and flowers is terribly delicious. I’d wear it during the day, but wouldn’t rule out a relaxing night or a date. A great option for vanilla lovers.

The most delicious, powdery, and creamy vanilla I’ve ever smelled. A treat for the senses. It stays close to the skin, but I notice it all morning. Will definitely repurchase.

Orchidee Vanille is delicate, sweet, and subtle. What strikes me most is the vanilla and mandarin. It’s pastry vanilla, comforting, ideal for these lockdown days. Every time I smell it, I get a warm orange flan, or vanilla tea with almond milk. Or better, the scent of dark vanilla in a creamy ice cream with black specks. It has a soft trail, only for close contact or personal use. Its performance is acceptable, about 6 hours. Ideal for temperate climates, rainy days, or before bed (autumn, spring). I don’t see it as formal, more for daily use or when we need that sweetness to comfort us and curb cravings. Ideal for lovers of delicate and gourmand vanilla, but sophisticated, with class. It’s not just any vanilla; it’s very well made and worth it. For me, it’s feminine.

Among gourmands, this one has the most decadent vanilla. It carries an immense touch of sophistication, as if you’re wearing it to seduce: sensual, warm, and very sexy. The notes are perfectly harmonized with a chocolatey aura, but it’s the chocolate of freshly made truffles. The almond adds a very contemporary twist. When you wear it, compliments come from everywhere, and the longevity is luxurious. It has a heavy trail that can handle some over-application without becoming overwhelming. High-quality notes at a high price, but its sophistication makes it worth it. To be eaten or to eat, it’s wonderful.

Big discovery of the year! A decadent, romantic blend that makes me want to wear it every single day. The opening is complex, mixing roses, chocolate, vanilla, and creamy almonds, with a subtle citrus note in the base that provides perfect balance. I love the evolution even more: the velvet, powdery roses and vanilla are the highlight. At one point, it smells like expensive makeup. After several hours, it settles into talc, heavy vanilla, and a touch of wood. I wore this during the holiday posadas, and now I can’t stop thinking about Christmas whenever I smell it. Longevity and sillage are moderate; it’s not loud, but during festive hugs, I noticed people prolonging the embrace to inhale my scent. The boldest ones whispered, ‘You smell so good,’ while the rest enjoyed it in silence.

There are perfumes that leave a mark on the heart. This one is narcotic; I can’t stop smelling it, and every time my nose delights, I feel a deep happiness. It has dethroned my beloved Hypnotic Poison; although they don’t resemble each other, both are my favorite vanillas. It has a silky, harmonious dry down: vanilla, almond, and chocolate finely intertwined, a true pleasure. It doesn’t change much, but as it dries, a delicate orchid and violet become noticeable. I don’t detect rose or cedar. It’s impressive, creamy, and refined; I could spend hours writing praises. A delight for the senses.

An exquisite find! A seductive vanilla dancing with almond and chocolate, with a floral/fruity wink. It’s gourmand, floral, and creamy all at once. So subtle and refined that it leaves you breathless. Extremely delicate.
