  • For me, it’s like Santal 33 at the beginning and Kenzo Homme Intense (without the Kenzo DNA, just woods) as it dries down, all surrounded by pine that fades very slowly. Great quality-to-price ratio.

Wonderful. I met it thanks to my colleague who was flooding the office with it. I asked why it seemed special and potent, and he said, ‘It’s a Zara cologne.’ I thought: What?? So, I went straight there and bought it because it was half price. I also ordered the Sacred Green Forest, but let’s stick with this one. It has an extremely strong opening of green woods that, on me, quickly opens up into a leather note. It stays intense and sweetens a bit after three or four hours, probably due to the incense. Men have complimented it, although I feel it’s masculine and almost threw it away. But after four hours, I love it and it feels unisex. I wore it yesterday at 6 PM and I’m still smelling it at 11 AM today. I’m impressed.

  • Taking advantage of the relaunch of Zara’s forest collection, I’m reviewing this fragrance I already owned. It’s like a masculinized Santal 33. The opening might scare the innocent; it reminds me of a stable with hay or wet straw. It’s a woody, mossy, damp, and foresty aroma. Gradually, it stabilizes into a cold sandalwood reminiscent of Santal 33 clones, but it develops its own personality and doesn’t fall into vulgar imitations. Mountain Woody Forest becomes cold, almost lugubrious and dry; it lives up to its name, smelling of pine and fir mountains full of moss and shrubs. It has a balanced charm: it’s refreshing (cold), modern yet with vintage touches reminiscent of the best facets of Ralph Lauren’s Polo Green. It also reminded me of the discontinued Tuscan Leather by Tom Ford; although there are quality differences and Zara is softer and more docile, I also thought of Memo Paris’ Russian Leather, which is wonderful. I felt that masculine elegance and was happy to recognize Zara’s effort in making good, affordable perfumes. It has nothing to envy from designer brands; the performance is good, it projects well for a couple of hours, and lasts 6 to 7 hours. At the office, I get lots of compliments. Today I applied 20 drops and received four compliments from colleagues who love me. I remember almost three years ago at Costco, a girl aged 15 or 16 chased me to the parking lot asking what perfume it was because her dad liked it. I showed her on my phone that it was from Zara, and she left happy. It’s one of the few perfumes in my collection where this happens to me.

  • While it could use a bit more longevity, this Mountain Woody smells almost identical to Comme des Garçons’ Wonderwood—a total hit.

  • Setting aside quality and longevity details, this Mountain Woody is very close to Comme Des Garçons’ Wonderwood; a great perfume.

  • Knowing Zara had brought back the Forest collection, I headed straight to the store to try all four. After testing and eliminating, I chose this one. I fell in love at first sniff; it seemed like a great daily alternative to my Kenzo EDT Intense. I tested it at home and was still enchanted, thinking I’d made a perfect choice. Then I wore it to work the next day: the first three hours were unbearable. I’m generous with drops, but even respecting its profile, it was a total rejection. The trail is overwhelming, more annoying than my Kenzo’s, and although Zara isn’t usually known for finesse, this scent makes me feel sick and gives me a headache. I tested it outdoors with few drops and it’s the same. It lasts much longer than desirable; even on clothes, it lingers after three weeks. It’s the only one in my collection that bothers me to wear, and the intensity doesn’t drop after two hours. Now I regret it and will let it macerate to see if it softens, though it seems like a muddled mix of notes.

I did a patch test on my wrist and absolutely loved it: very fresh, smells like a pine forest. The trail is pleasant with strong sillage for the first two hours and lasts a long time. If I find it on sale, I’m buying it without hesitation.
