  L’Occitane wanted to rescue flowers that modern perfumery has largely ignored bringing a very Provençal vision to the table. Merilot is my favorite because it’s so different. You don’t need to know what sweet clover smells like to appreciate this beauty; it smells like grain harvested in summer and dried for autumn. It’s not a cereal scent but something extraordinary with that sensual almost sexual touch of wheat or barley that some skin types naturally carry. With its low sillage it feels like a natural skin scent. It’s linear with little development. The main notes are wheat hay bran hazelnut and to a lesser extent carrot seeds and galbanum; pear cedar and vetiver just accompany them. I think this is the most original and good thing L’Occitane has done in years far from the sweet flowers of Fleurs De Cerisier or the insecticide-like lemon of Verveine. I love the bottle for its elegance and the real wood cap. That said the paper label on a house with these prices seems like an audacity; we’re starting to look like Loewe. I like it as a signature scent for its discreet intimate and suggestive vibe. It works all year and for anyone brave enough to wear it regardless of gender. Lasts eight to ten hours always subtle perfect for daytime wear.
