Loewe 001 Man by Loewe

I like it. It doesn’t bring anything new and won’t be remembered as something novel, but it smells quite good. At first, it seems like an illegitimate Dior Homme clone, then it mutates thanks to the ambrette musk into an impersonator of Dior Homme Intense, warmer than the original. In the first two phases, it feels like an undefined mix of the two; when it reminds you of the first, something pulls you toward the second, and vice versa. However, in this clone game, Loewe 001 has its own nuances: a faint flash of very soft mandarin at the start and an unexpected iodine touch that reminds me of that typical white tin box with a red cross and bandages from before. I also sense an almost imperceptible spicy floral tone, like dried wildflowers, which I think is cardamom. Later, when it seems to have reached its peak, it reactivates with a final phase ending in a cold, musky wood dry-down, in the style of Calvin Klein fragrances in their minimalist era. The longevity for an EDT isn’t bad at all. This Loewe is a ‘want but can’t’ that amused me. The bottle is pretty, the scent pleasant, and it lasts several hours; if I found it at a good price, I’d buy it. However, it’s also not a perfume that will make you fall in love… it’s like it’s half-gas, as if the fragrance itself doesn’t know what it is, a hybrid between Dior Homme and some Cartier and Calvin Klein. It doesn’t smell cheap; the notes feel high quality, so it doesn’t make you think of Zara. I feel like they’ll delist it in the middle of a TV news broadcast. By the way, did no perfumer make this fragrance? Did it create itself by magic? P.S. I just remembered that in the first and second phases, it resembles V&L’s Seduction Magnétique water a lot, which smells good but doesn’t last half an hour. I’m adding its notes because they aren’t listed: bergamot, grapefruit, green mint; cardamom, ginger, iris; cedar, vetiver, benzoin.

Loewe has given a minimalist turn to its scents and bottles, and this perfume represents that minimalism better than any other from the brand. Olfactorily, throughout its life, other fragrances come to mind. The opening is fresh, spicy, and velvety, similar to Dior Homme 2005/2011/Original. It has a close resemblance at the start, but the scent densifies and warms up over time, taking on a character reminiscent of Dior Homme Intense along with the spice of La Nuit de l’Homme. In this long phase, the warmth stands out, turning into a woody accord where violet and ambrette musk highlight, giving that “air” to these fragrances. The final phase reduces the noise of the mix; the warm, slightly sweet but powdery violet (in the style of Boss Bottled Night) takes a cleaner path thanks to the musk, maintaining a woody base in the background with vetiver and non-earthly, very light patchouli. In short, it’s a signature perfume for almost all year round except very hot climates, but it’s minimalist because its scent is weak from the start and its trail is imperceptible. Although in its heart phase it seems to want to project, it’s for personal enjoyment, a scent that if it were a color would be raw white or pastel, accompanied by certain clean woody warmth. It’s not original because it recalls other creations in its phases, it’s not extraordinary, and its performance doesn’t justify the purchase. I like the overall concept (bottle, cap, color, and scent go hand in hand), but I think there are better options even within the brand. Eager to try the other versions of the 001 line.

Thanks to a complimentary sample of Loewe’s new fragrance, I was able to use and try the 001 Man. Based on its general characteristics, it seemed fresh, floral, semi-sweet, and woody. Freshly applied, rooty citrus and herbal notes, perhaps vetiver, are noticeable, making it feel fresh. After a few minutes, it becomes powdery; I thought it had iris, but it’s not declared, so I don’t know what note gives it that powdery touch, but in this part it feels a bit feminine. There was a phase where I perceived leather and incense notes with a certain resemblance to the Anonymous by the same house. After a few hours, it feels woody and fresh again, in the style of some vetiver-based fragrances. And when it seems to end fresh, it becomes a bit creamy, with a semi-sweet sensation that seems like vanilla or tonka bean. It seemed suitable for daily use and any season, with a clean feeling; its powdery touch reminded me more of Infusion d’Homme by Prada than Dior Homme. I was surprised by its multifaceted nature: it goes from fresh to floral, from floral to woody, from woody to sweet. In short, it’s multifaceted. Its longevity was also very good; I applied it at 6 AM and it still had good presence at 10 PM, while its projection was regular. In general, I liked it.

Quality and potency of Spanish perfumery. This is what’s on its label: Number One Man scent. Loewe handsomely meets the most demanding expectations. These are highly concentrated fragrances with high-quality essential oils and a very natural aroma. If it carries orange, it will smell like orange without disappointing or turning synthetic. All Loewe fragrances live up to their price, and this is no different. You can check the predominant notes to know exactly what they offer. You just need to be clear about what you like; if what you’re looking for matches the composition of a LOEWE fragrance, then you’re in for a treat, because you’ll find what you’re looking for in a powerful and WOW way. Compared to other brands, the rest seem like soft fragrances. Personally, I believe they are on the same level as TOP fragrances like Dior, but LOEWE offers an overwhelming variety. We can be proud to have this characteristic Spanish brand that defines the type of perfumery that is Spanish. Potent, natural, persistent, and of high quality. Each composition is a great job.

There was a time when I didn’t care much about perfume and wouldn’t buy one without finishing the other. One day I went to the perfumerie to restock (probably a Sculpture or Blue Jeans) and asked for something different. They told me this Loewe had just arrived and it seemed completely different from everything I’d smelled. For going to the office elegantly, in a suit or blazer, it’s perfect. Spiced, aromatic, musky… Indeed different. It’s not a scent you find around. I used a 100ml bottle and repurchased it; although it’s not a perfume that gets compliments, you notice it for many hours and it never fails. Spring, autumn, and winter seem excellent to me. Anecdote: it was the perfume I got married in, and today, with over 100 perfumes in my collection, I still consider it an excellent choice that I could perfectly choose again.

I’ve tried both this 001 version and the feminine one, and both are woody unisex, though I find this one completely androgynous and multifunctional: anyone can wear it anytime, except on scorching hot summers. At the start, fresh and spicy cypress dominates for an hour. Once it settles, it becomes more serious; the cypress gives way to smoky vetiver mixed with white musk, ambrette, and a hint of patchouli. It lasted 10 hours on my skin with about 4 hours of projection. Although it doesn’t seem original, I really liked it. Its drydown reminds me slightly of Byredo’s Gipsy Water, but here the vetiver is softer and less sweet/citrusy. There’s something in the late drydown I can’t identify that feels a bit plastic to me, but otherwise, it’s very pleasant.

Solid composition but not very versatile; it smells more like perfumed wood than real wood, extremely invasive and masculine to the point of crossing the line. Don’t go over two sprays or you’ll smell like a climate activist. There’s no real tenderness, except perhaps in memory, and that dry cedar isn’t woody because of the sandalwood—it smells almost sweet but with a masculinity not listed in the notes. Maybe it’s the carrot seeds giving it that dusty touch. If Hulk wore a suit and tie, this would be his scent. It’s like a Dior Homme 2011 without the effeminate sweetness and without iris. Surprising and elusive.

It works well for me. What strikes me most at first is the cardamomo with a touch of bergamot and a soft sweetness, perhaps from tangerine. Then the cypress comes out strong, followed by a quieter vetiver. In the end, the musk takes over. It’s not my favorite, but it evolves and smells good. What I dislike most is the opening: the cardamom is too intense for me. I haven’t tried Encre Noir, but based on the notes, they seem to have some things in common. Let’s see if anyone can shed some light on that. Ideal for autumn and winter, day and night. Long-lasting with a moderate sillage.

A fragrance that opens fresh, almost soapy, and evolves into a woody base reminiscent of a freshly sharpened pencil: clean, intimate, and very particular. It has an effortless, almost minimalist elegance. It lasts about 6 hours with good initial projection; then it lingers on the skin like a warm, charming whisper. I received many compliments. It was my signature scent for years, and most importantly, it’s how I met the woman of my life. Ideal look: white shirt, well-fitted jeans or chinos, loafers, or clean sneakers. Perfect for a neat, casually elegant style.

Great disappointment. And that despite my expectations being low due to the bad reviews I’d already heard, but I ended up with a simple, cliché, sweet, and easy fragrance for such a bombastic launch. It reminded me of the dry-down of Armani Code Profumo, which isn’t bad, but I felt it was extremely feminine, so much so that for a moment I thought I had made a mistake and tried their version for her. Trail and longevity are medium/high, and the ingredients feel high quality; that’s something Loewe doesn’t disappoint in.

Yesterday I met this new ‘couple’ from the Loewe house, the feminine and masculine versions, both delicious, but I’m sticking with the masculine and adding it to my wishlist: it was a pleasant surprise to find a woody and spiced fragrance with a balance I haven’t achieved with other new releases on the market: I enjoyed all its notes and fell in love with the cardamom, the vetiver, the sandalwood… Oh! Better stop there! The longevity was excellent and the sillage was wide… Worth trying.

I agree with the previous reviews: it resembles Dior Homme 2011. The ambrette seeds give it a chocolatey musk, and the carrot seeds make it powdery; although they aren’t listed in the notes, I perceive a potent iris. It’s good, versatile for day and night, for men or women of all ages who like floral woody and sweet scents. The price is high, but it boasts quality essences. A good fragrance for someone cheerful and with a seductive character. Praise everywhere.

There’s a clear resemblance to Dior Homme, and as Espartaco says, it recalls V&L’s Seduction Magnétique at some point. Honestly, it’s nothing innovative; it seems like a mix of three or four known fragrances bottled at a high price. If you already know how those two smell, you save the expense and look for something better. @Pedjalazaro: It’s different from Encre Noir; this definitely smells different and mysterious. Try it in a store if you can.

Spectacular fragrance with cedar and sandalwood dominating the scene. At first, I didn’t quite get it, but after wearing it more, I find it exquisite, strong, and unmistakable; it’s woody with sweet touches. When you think it’s gone, it comes back with force. Great for layering with other woody fragrances.

Loewe 001 EdP is Spain in a bottle. It’s the countryside, fresh vegetation, and the exchange of two lovers on a mild day. I never thought it smelled like Dior Homme Intense or any flanker because it has absolutely nothing to do with Dior. Please stop making nonsense.
