La Vie Est Belle by Lancôme is a fruity-floral-gourmand fragrance for women. Launched in 2012, this composition was created by Olivier Polge, Dominique Ropion, and Anne Flipo. The top notes of black currant and pear deliver a vibrant first impression; the heart reveals iris, jasmine, and orange blossom, while the base settles on praline, vanilla, patchouli, and tonka bean.

The hate it receives on social media is unbelievable. It’s delicious and has great performance. It’s balanced, a crowd-pleaser with complex accords. It’s mature yet sweet and youthful, and above all, it’s not vintage. Is it overused? So what? That doesn’t take away its quality… for me, it’s still a great perfume.
Very cloying and basic. It smells like one of those mass-market perfumes we smell on many women with minimal variations but the same essence. Besides, at that price, you can find a dupe that’s 90% similar and costs half as much.
I bought it on recommendation and because it’s by Lancôme. The problem is it smells like talc. One or two sprays are enough for the whole day, and it’s too noticeable. I think it might bother those who don’t like sweet scents. Overall, it commands presence and is very feminine.
Totally agree with Poison Ivy: when a perfume isn’t my style, I classify it as a ‘lady’s perfume.’ There are no lady perfumes, only ladies who perfume themselves with teddy bears or all kinds of scents, from fresh to intense, just like young women. It depends on whether it suits them. This one is intense, not for summer or heat, but it’s wonderfully constructed and depends on tastes and memories. Some love the cut grass scent, and I hate it; scents are like songs or flavors. I also don’t think it’s saturated in 2024; I’ve only smelled it on one person. As for dupes, those low-quality synthetic scents that have their audience due to price, but they have a repetitive smell in those under 30 euros. I’m not against their use.
Good longevity and projection, but it’s too sweet and I can’t handle it.
My first impression was ‘What just did I smell?!’. I’m not a fan of gourmands, but I really liked it. Although it’s sweet, it doesn’t seem cloying like others say. It doesn’t smell old; rather, it’s something anyone can wear. The blend of fruit, gourmand, and patchouli-tonka bean makes it complex so it doesn’t just smell sweet. It arrived in the advent calendar and is a gem for winter-fall, I think it’s the best season.
They gifted it to me this Christmas, and since it was so viral, I never wanted to try it. I was surprised: at first, I thought it was a lady’s perfume, but upon paying closer attention, I noticed a complex, personality-filled scent that leaves a mark. If you’re looking for something different, it’s worth it.
It’s very sweet and feminine. Although the price isn’t cheap, I recommend it from the bottom of my heart. I use it in heat or cold, and it works the same. The longevity is moderate and the projection is decent; when you pass by, everyone notices the scent. It’s worth it.
It smells strong, lasts all day, and leaves a trail with just two sprays. It’s super sweet and fruity. I can’t stand the patchouli or black currant, which are very noticeable. Plus, it smells like powdered makeup to me. It’s not my style, but it has incredible performance that deserves recognition.
La Vie Est Belle by Lancôme is a classic of feminine design with a unique character. Upon opening, the pear and black currants bring freshness and joy. Then, praliné and vanilla bring an exquisite, addictive sweetness, balanced by iris, jasmine, and patchouli. Its performance is top-notch: it lasts a long time and projects well, leaving an elegant and seductive trail. Ideal for going out and standing out at night.
It reminds me of Dior Homme Intense, with that powdery iris. I like it. I feel the iris works better on women.
Beautiful classic perfume, with great sillage and longevity. People will ask you what you’re wearing if they don’t know it. It smells very much of patchouli and blackberry; I perceive it as very powdery and elegant, like expensive makeup, like expensive talc. Be careful in summer, it’s very strong and can be annoying. The only reason I wear it little is because I smell it constantly on the street, but I think I’ll always love this scent.
I think this perfume has earned a place on the shelf of every home with at least one woman. It’s spectacular, super sweet; the first minutes have an incredibly potent fruity opening that then dissipates, leaving a caramelized scent from praline and vanilla. I don’t notice the flowers. I love it, it’s gourmand and of excellent quality: a few sprays and you leave a mark. Ideal for a winter party night or a special outing. One thing is not liking gourmand scents, and another is being tired of smelling them all the time. Unfortunately, it’s extremely overused, plus many people wear it in summer or daily, just like others such as Good Girl. There are too many inspirations and imitations: I love it but at the same time, smelling it all the time makes it boring and it stops being special. On one hand, it’s great, but I don’t recommend it for someone looking for something distinguished.
I resisted reviewing this best-seller, but an intensive LVEB session at work pushed me to the edge of dyspnea, so I needed to detox. To clarify, I’m not a gourmand person and I respect those who enjoy it. LVEB was a phenomenon with an impactful campaign that made it an instant hit for middle-aged women. Lancôme created a new classic, but in my opinion, it’s not a good perfume. Being popular doesn’t equal quality. It’s like a Frankenstein’s monster with visible seams: poorly harmonious, with an exacerbated sweetness that overwhelms everything. No nuances, just a fruit storm where flowers are buried in poorly tuned powdery vanilla. Is it eye-catching? Yes, it’s flashy, excessive in projection and longevity. Reformulated without improvement, it remains a success, perhaps eclipsed by its flankers. For me, it’s a dessert with excellent ingredients but poorly combined: it attracts at first, but then dazes and fatigues. A disjointed juice, yet victorious and loved/hated like no other in the last decade.
It smells way too strong.
It was a gift; I wouldn’t have chosen it myself. At first, it seemed very boring and annoying, but after continuing to wear it, I managed to appreciate it and feel comfortable; now it smells less sweet on my skin. Anyway, I won’t repurchase when it runs out.
Oh my! It came to me as a gift in an advent calendar, and honestly, I was scared because of the bad reviews. Today I finally tried it: the opening was a sweet hit, but after four hours, it smells like clean soap with a sweet touch between flowers and wood. I think my pH is lucky to soften it, and now I’m loving it.
Rich and soft perfume, even for everyday wear. Very subtle, ideal for a romantic date without too much heat.
I’m already tired of smelling it so much.
The perfume that changed the rules of the game in perfumery, opening the door to the gourmand revolution. A well-made classic with great sillage and longevity, tender and elegant. A milestone for daring to use edible ingredients and delivering a brilliant result. A masterpiece copied by millions that has never been matched.
Many will get tired of smelling it, or they won’t like it, or I don’t know what. Everyone’s different, respect that. But I love it. I tried it once and liked it, but it’s not for my age even though I’m fascinated by it. That praline combined with vanilla, pear, and blackcurrant is divine. I’ve tried catalog inspirations and they smell the same, but my number one will always be the Lancome one. It lasts a long time. Don’t use it in too much heat.
I love it; it’s my signature scent. I’m a fan of sweet and vanilla perfumes, and this is a classic; it smells incredibly elegant. I LOVE IT SO MUCH.
It’s a classic scent, but for that price, you can buy others from the same brand like Vie Est Belle, Soleri Cristal, Intensiment, or Olimpea by Paco Rabanne. To be honest, I gave three Lancome perfumes to my mom and one to my sister, and the truth is that this one, Vie Est Belle, has the least distinct scent. The best option would be La Nuit Tresor Intensim by Lancome. It has good longevity and scent, but its fragrance isn’t up to par with the new versions.
It’s the classic must-have, very traditional but it definitely never fails. I use it as a daily perfume all year round because it’s truly beautiful.
I feel it’s elegant and you can wear it every day. Unfailingly good.
Definitely it’s the perfume that gets me the most compliments, although many also find it fascinating. Super versatile.
Classic, elegant, and delicate. Definitely a classic, it doesn’t deserve a bad comment.
To me, it’s a classic, very mass-market, and for that reason, it earned its spot. You hate it or you love it, you know it. It was a gift; maybe I wouldn’t have noticed it if it hadn’t been. But smelling it, I felt something sweet and elegant without being cloying. It’s very me; I like perfumes with presence, elegant, and not too sweet.
This perfume was love at first sniff. I never tried it at first, but when I did, I really liked it. First, I was drawn to its packaging; every pink perfume catches my eye. I felt it was sweet and fruity; I didn’t notice much patchouli (I didn’t even know it had it). It’s a pity it’s been imitated so much and is no longer unique, but rather very popular.
What I like most is that it doesn’t give me a headache, even though it’s potent, and it lasts a long time in the air. I remember a taxi driver asked me what it was so he could buy it for his wife. It hasn’t completely won me over, but it has great sillage and longevity; the problem is it became too popular because of its price.
I suffered through this years ago. And I say ‘suffered’ because it just doesn’t work for me at all. A coworker used to wear it, and since I had to drive with her all morning, it was olfactorily exhausting. To the point where I felt my throat irritated, like when you eat a milk chocolate truffle that has more sugar than chocolate. I always compare it to the smell of a takeaway coffee with milk where the foam sticks to the cup as you sip, then dries up while you chat. Sometimes that dry, stale coffee smell hits you, and you brush it off because it’s annoying. That burnt coffee smell, with all its bitter roast melted almost into tar. Wherever I smell it, I detect it and hate it.
It’s a present and pretty perfume, but there’s something about it that I just don’t quite like. Without a doubt, it’s a winter perfume.
I met La Vie Est Belle thanks to a Lancôme sample set, and although I was curious to try it due to its huge popularity, it just didn’t work for me. From the first application, it felt too sweet, almost cloying, with a gourmand accord that became heavy and dominant. The praline and vanilla took center stage, leaving very little room for any freshness or floral nuance that could balance it. On my skin, it felt linear and dense, more ‘sugary’ than elegant, and its intensity felt invasive, especially in warm weather. I understand why it’s a favorite for many, but for my personal taste, it’s excessive, loaded, and tiring, far from the fresher, lighter fragrances I prefer. If you’re looking for something subtle or balanced, La Vie Est Belle probably isn’t ideal. In my case, it simply didn’t connect with me.
It’s a pleasant and rich perfume, but considering the price, I don’t think I’d buy it again because nowadays there are so many options with a much better price-to-quality ratio.
Sweet without being cloying; on my skin, the pear and jasmine really shine. I’m more of a floral person than a sweet one, but this has a very tolerable praline touch. It’s a comforting and elegant scent; every time I wear it, I get tons of compliments.
From the very first second, a sweetness that isn’t overwhelming, with impressive vibe and projection. Super versatile aroma, and above all, rich. Lasts more than 10 hours on skin and can last weeks on clothes without exaggerating. A spectacular women’s perfume.
Sweet and slightly fruity, with incredible longevity; I can still smell it on my skin after 24 hours. Overall, it’s a great classic, but that’s the issue for me: I feel I’ve heard it too many times and it smells a bit dated. Still, it’s a great perfume, works wonderfully during the day, and is more formal.
I hate the opening. That’s why perfume tastes are so personal. Unlike several reviews I read, I find it invasive, harassing, and simply unpleasant. I can’t identify any notes, just feel something I dislike, something strong that reminds me of cough syrup. After about two hours, I start noticing a rich floral scent that lingers, but honestly, it’s not worth sticking with for the first two hours. In my case, it’s not worth it. Adding it all up, I rate it as indifferent 😑.
Bought it in fall 2022 and it exploded in spring 2023. It’s the cutest fragrance in my collection. During work breaks, I’d head to the drugstore to sniff new releases while they were on sale; I decided to buy it because I adore princessy women’s perfumes. It’s floral and warm, like a long hug. I gave samples to a friend a couple of years ago, loved them so much I bought the bottle for myself. It’s perfect for everyday wear and work; back then, I was a sales associate who’d just been promoted, so I was channeling my inner Barbie and Rapunzel, recovering from a major life blow: the pandemic and a move. As my Jimmy Choo ran out, I needed a replacement, and yes, they’re similar, though this smells spicier and warmer. Mentally, I was in a rough spot, dealing with a sudden life change and unlearning old patterns (in therapy), feeling on edge; thanks to this super-feminine scent, I could reconnect with my tenderness and sensitive side, making that stressful process a bit more bearable. I associate this perfume with going to therapy, crushing a workday, and then dragging myself home sleepy to cry myself to sleep in bed; my brain just couldn’t take it anymore. Today, however, my mental health is bulletproof and I’m in the best moment of my life 💕.
Nice scent, but lacks personality. I like it, though not enough to love it. The thing that doesn’t work for me is that lingering smell of men’s shaving cream, so it wouldn’t be my choice.
