I’m still trying the sample pack from Carner Barcelona and this time it’s Isla Bohemia’s turn. The first spray I really liked. It has a beautiful floral and vanilla punch, very luminous, which gradually gives way to a more citrus profile. So far, so good. The problem comes when it dries on my skin. It leaves a very heavy smell that I initially thought could be the bergamot, but no. It’s something much more ambery, intense, and powerful. In fact, it’s that smell I find in too many masculine perfumes and that I personally can’t stand. The vanilla is still very present and I like it, but to my taste it’s completely eclipsed by that invasive note. Honestly, I don’t think I could “spray” myself with this perfume to wear it all day. Even just one spray on my wrist is already feeling quite cloying. And it’s a shame, because seeing its notes I was convinced this was going to be one of my favorites.
It has a very realistic and juicy pear opening, then a super creamy iris appears and the base stays sweet from the vanilla but without being cloying. I really liked it.
I’m going to give my first review having worn the perfume today since early morning. With those notes, I couldn’t not like it, and indeed I liked it, but it doesn’t evoke any island for me, nor does it feel like a summer perfume. At the opening I perceive a lot of pear and iris which feels a bit earthy, but it quickly changes and becomes a warm, enveloping, and cozy perfume… the vanilla, musk, and sandalwood complement it very well. For some reason, it causes me anosmia (I’m not very reliable at this time of year due to my allergy and rhinitis) after a while I only smell it in whiffs, but my husband has been all day long (🤣) telling me that this perfume smells very strong… at 2h, at 4h, at 6h… he says it causes him love-hate, because even though he likes the smell, he finds it very invasive… I’ll try applying less (I didn’t hold back on the trigger, to be honest). In short, it’s an easy perfume to like, especially if you like vanilla scents, with a powdery and musky touch. I’ll keep testing it and try to add more comments. Edit: today I wore it again, with fewer sprays, and I’m going to reorganize my thoughts. The pear that comes out when spraying the perfume is super realistic, it’s like I’m chewing a juicy and sweet pear, exactly. The pear scent stays for the entire life of the perfume. Today my husband didn’t complain, at the end of the day I asked him if it bothered him and he said no, he doesn’t know if it’s because his nose got used to it or if it smelled less. 9 hours have passed since I put it on and I still smell it on my wrists, so I can say its longevity is spectacular. The smell is fantastic, within my preferences, sweet, powdery, delicate, cozy… it has positioned itself as one of my favorites 👌
