This house likes to make inspired versions of renowned, high-quality perfumes, but in the end, they’re just copies. This is the inspiration for THE MOON by Frederic Malle; it’s very well executed, but at this price point, I’ll stick with the original.
A fragrance for the alpha male… the opening is a bit complicated (I guess because of the cumin), but after a few minutes, it turns into something challenging and very pleasant to my nose. It’s a must-have for cold weather and night. A woody scent where the oud and spices take charge. It lasts forever and has great projection for the first two hours. In the end, regarding price, this one bleeds you dry. Rating: 8.9/10
I added this to my collection about six months ago, and honestly, I love it. It opens with geranium, saffron, oud, and a hint of cumin. It follows the Fortuna line but is spicier with a sweet honey base. As it dries, it becomes creamy and sweet, featuring a really good ambergris that reminds me of Histoires de Parfums’ Marquis de Sade. It has that same vibe, but Gladiator adds oud and cumin, making it more woody and spicy. It’s strong and animalic at first, but softens within the first hour, turning creamy and sweet with a very wearable oud base—nothing challenging. Overall, I like it: it’s formal and serious, perfect for cool weather, with a masculine touch. Performance is good at the start and it lingers on the skin. It smells like The Moon by FDM but it’s missing something. This house loves copying famous fragrances, and I’m not a fan. It’s basically spiced oud, which is okay, but The Moon is infinitely superior. When it dries down, it leaves a smoky aftertaste that I just don’t like.
